We investigate the load sharing problem between the umbrella cell and the overlaid tells in hierarchical cell structure. A load sharing strategy is proposed and its performance is evaluated by simulation when it is used for transmission of the mobile Internet traffic using the High Speed Downlink Packet Access scheme. The results show that, with the proposed strategy, the microcell backs well the overlaid picocells up, especially when a specific picocell cluster suffers unusual heavy load condition. By using the strategy, we can reduce the installation cost, otherwise needed for increasing the system capacity of every picocell cluster to cope with the unusual heavy load.
In this paper, we consider a source node that operates over a time varying channel with energy harvesting capability. The goal of the source is to maximize the average number of successfully delivered packets per time slot. The source is able to choose whether to transmit a packet or defer the transmission in each time slot. The decision which is chosen by the source depends on the channel information available and the length of the energy queue. We formulate the problem of finding the optimal policy as a Markovian decision problem. We show some properties of the value function that represents the discounted number of successfully delivered packets per time slot. We prove that the optimal policy is a threshold type policy depending on the state of the channel and the length of the energy queue. We also derive an upper bound for the average number of packets per time slots successfully received by the destination. We show using numerical results that this bound is a tight bound on the performance of the optimal policy. And we consider the case of time varying channel but without channel state information (CSI). Then, we study the impact of channel time varying nature and the availability of CSI. In this case, we show that the optimal policy is a greedy policy. The performance of this greedy policy is also calculated.

There are several high technologies applied to the driving cars such as self-driving car and connected car for safe and convenient driving. VANET provides useful information such as route selection and gas price by communicating nearby cars and RSUs. VANET prefers CCN rather than traditional TCP/IP stack because CCN offers inherent multicast communication for sharing traffic information as well as traditional unicast. When all participating node rebroadcasts the Interest packets in a Vehicular CCN, the network may suffer from Broadcast Storm Problem. In order to mitigate the effect of the problem and to improve the Data packet transmission, not all but some selected nodes have to rebroadcast the packet. This paper simulates car movements using SUMO and evaluates data transmission performance using ns-3. According to the simulation results, when some selected nodes rebroadcast the Interest packets, the transmission performance improves 10% to 25% depending on the number of requesting nodes.
In this paper, we propose a new scheme which improves the IP address lookup time. The new scheme is composed of two core technologies, named the prefix alignment and the prefix distance ordering. Now, as the Internet is being used commonly by improving the data transmission capacity, the need for enlarging the bandwidth of the Internet is on the rise. IP address lookup performance problem is an important obstacle in the router executing high speed packet forwarding. This results from the fact that the prefixes routing table is composed of and the traffic being processed in unit time are largely on the increase. The proposed lookup scheme is divided into two parts in technology, the one is the algorithm forming a routing database(routing table), the other is the lookup procedure in the actual packet processing.
Traditionally, the scarce and expensive resources in communication networks has been the bandwidth of transmission facilities; accordingly, the techniques used for networking and switching have been chosen so as to optimize the efficient use of that resource. One of them is the packet switching for data communications, which is much different from the circuit switching. It allows multiple users to share the data network facilities and bandwidth, rather than providing specific amounts of dedicated bandwidth to each users. One main challenge therefore has been to design and build cost-effective packet switching networks. In this paper, we develop a mathematical programming medel and heuristic algorithm for designing the packet switching networks with hop-count constraints. To develop an efficient heuristic, we apply the Lagrangian relaxation method. Some valid inequalities, which have been known as the tight constraints, are considered to improve the bound for Lagrangian sub-problem. The computational experiments show that the performance of the proposed heuristic is very satisfactory in both the speed and the quality of design solutions generated.

Packet classification is one of the basic and important functions of the Internet routers, and it became more important along with new emerging application programs requiring real-time transmission. Since packet classification should be accomplished in line-speed on each incoming input packet for multiple header fields, it becomes one of the challenges in designing Internet routers. Various packet classification algorithms have been proposed to provide the high-speed packet classification. Hierarchical approach achieves effective packet classification performance by significantly narrowing down the search space whenever a field lookup is completed. However, hierarchical approach involves back-tracking problem. In order to solve the problem, set-pruning trie and grid-of-trie algorithms are proposed. However, the algorithm either causes excessive node duplication or heavy pre-computation. In this paper, we propose a smart set-pruning trie which reduces the number of node duplication in the set-pruning trie by the simple merging of the lower-level tries. Simulation result shows that the proposed trie has the reduced number of copied nodes by 2-8% compared with the set-pruning trie.

In this paper, we described the software development for verifying the integrity of output data of TCP/IP for VLBI Correlation Subsystem (VCS) correlation block and proposed the performance improvement method in order to prevent the data loss of correlation output. The VCS correlation results are saved at the Data Archive system through TCP/IP packet transmission. In this paper, the integrity verification software is developed so as to confirm the integrity of correlation result saved at the data archive system using TCP/IP packet information of VCS. The 3-step integrity verification process is proposed by using the developed software, its effectiveness was confirmed in consequence of correlation experiments. In addition, TCP/IP packet transmission must be completed within minimum integration period. However, there is not only TCP/IP packet loss occurred but also the problem of correlation result integrity affected in account of a large quantity of packets and data during short integration time. In this paper, the reason of TCP/IP packet loss is analyzed and the modified methods for FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) of VCS are proposed, the integrity problem of correlation results will be solved.

This paper proposes a load balanced reliable routing protocol called LBR (Load Balanced Reliable routing) in wireless networks. The LBR protocol transmits messages through a reliable path considering the balancing of the traffic load. Recently, the authors have proposed a multipath-based reliable routing protocol called MRFR, which is an appealing protocol for fault tolerant reliable data transmission. However, However, MRFR has no concern with the problem of load balancing, which results in increasing congestion and consuming high energy at some network nodes. As a result, the problem affects negatively the performance of the network. Taking account of load balancing as a route selection criteria can avoid routing through the congested nodes and allows to find better routes. In this paper, we extend MRFR by considering load balancing in the route discovery process of reliable communication. The simulation results showed that the proposed protocol outperforms AODV in terms of end-to-end delay, packet delivery radio, and average jitter. Compared to MRFR, the LBR protocol has the same packet delivery ratio, and obtains a better efficiency of load balancing.

The existence of excessively large and too filled network buffers, known as bufferbloat, has recently gained attention as a major performance problem for delay-sensitive applications. Researchers have made three types of suggestions to solve the bufferbloat problem. One is End to End (E2E) congestion control, second is deployment of Active Queue Management (AQM) techniques and third is the combination of above two. However, these solutions either seem impractical or could not obtain good bandwidth utilization. In this paper, we propose a Transmission Control Protocol(TCP)delayed window update mechanism which uses a congestion detection approach to predict the congestion level of networks. When detecting the network congestion is coming, a delayed window update control strategy is adopted to maintain good protocol performance. If the network is non-congested, the mechanism stops work and congestion window is updated based on the original protocol. The simulation experiments are conducted on both high bandwidth and long delay scenario and low bandwidth and short delay scenario. Experiment results show that TCP delayed window update mechanism can effectively improve the performance of the original protocol, decreasing packet losses and queuing delay while guaranteeing transmission efficiency of the whole network. In addition, it can perform good fairness and TCP friendliness.
In the mobile ad hoc network, network nodes are continuously capable of movement, but have battery limitations and these characteristics of MANET cause network link failure. Therefore, when performing ubiquitous services with the application of MANET, a technique is required to improve the packet transmission rates as to enable continuous packet transmission while flexibly adapting to topology changes caused by the mobility of nodes. In this paper, we are proposing PAOMDV(Possibility based AOMDV) and OLSR-ME(OLSR with Modified Energy Efficiency) which are mixed-type protocols to solve the problem for design a more efficient protocol. Especially by classifying mobile ad hoc networks as clusters, OLSR-ME protocol is implemented on communication within the clusters, while PAOMDV is used in protocols between clusters. In addition, a selection algorithm for forwarding nodes that responding packet relays in the case of increased hops was proposed for designing a more efficient protocol than existing protocols. We verified the performance of the proposed protocols through a comparative experiment with AODV, AOMDV, ZRP, and the existing protocols. We confirmed the results of the experiment revealed that the proposed protocol had the best packet transmission rate, the shortest delay between nodes, and showed better results in routing overhead.
