Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks require dynamic flow admission control to guarantee end-to-end quality of service (QoS) for each Internet protocol (IP) traffic flow. In this paper, we propose to tackle the joint routing and admission control problem for the IP traffic flows in MPLS networks without rerouting already admitted flows. We propose two mathematical programming models for this problem. The first model includes end-to-end delay constraints and the second one, end-to-end packet loss constraints. These end-to-end QoS constraints are imposed not only for the new traffic flow, but also for all already admitted flows in the network. The objective function of both models is to minimize the end-to-end delay for the new flow. Numerical results show that considering end-to-end delay (or packet loss) constraints for all flows has a small impact on the flow blocking rate. Moreover, we reduces significantly the mean end-to-end delay (or the mean packet loss rate) and the proposed approach is able to make its decision within 250 msec.

In this paper, we use a quadrotor-based mobile sink to gather sensor data from the terrestrial deployed wireless sensor network. By analyzing the flight features of the mobile sink node, we theoretically study the flight constraints of height, velocity, and trajectory of the mobile sink node so as to communicate with the terrestrial wireless sensor network. Moreover, we analyze the data amount which the mobile sink can send when it satisfies these flight constraints. Based on these analysis results, we propose a data acquisition approach for the mobile sink node, which is discussed detailed in terms of network performance such as the transmission delay, packet loss rate, sojourning time and mobile trajectory when given the flying speed and height of the mobile sink node. Extensive simulation results validate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

Supporting real-time flows with delay and throughput constraints is an important challenge for future wireless networks. In this paper, we develop an optimal scheduling scheme to optimally choose the packets to transmit. The optimal transmission strategy is based on an observable Markov decision process. The novelty of the work focuses on a priority-based probabilistic packet scheduling strategy for efficient packet transmission. This helps in providing guaranteed services to real time traffic in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks. The proposed scheduling mechanism is able to optimize the desired performance. The proposed scheduler improves the overall end-to-end delay, decreases the packet loss ratio, and reduces blocking probability even in the case of congested network.

In this paper, a packet scheduling scheme that supports real-time traffic having multi-level delay constraints in OFDMA systems is proposed. The proposed scheme pursues to satisfy the delay constraint first, and then manage the residual radio resource in order to enhance the overall throughput. A parameters named tolerable delay time (TDT) is newly defined to deal with the differentiated behaviors of packet scheduling according to the delay constraint level. Assuming that the packets violating the delay constraint are discarded, the proposed scheme is evaluated in terms of the packet loss probability, throughput, channel utilization. It is then compared with existing schemes for real-time traffic support such as the Exponential Scheduling (EXP) scheme, the Modified Largest Weighted Delay First (M-LWDF) scheme, and the Round robin scheme. The numerical results show that the proposed scheduling scheme performs much better than the aforementioned scheduling schemes in terms of the packet loss probability, while slightly better in terms of throughput and channel utilization.
In this study, we propose a joint source/channel rate control algorithm for video encoder targeting packet erasure channel. Based on the buffer constraints of video communication systems, encoding rate constraint is presented. After defining source distortion models for coded and skipped video frames and a channel distortion model for packet errors and their propagation, an average distortion model of received video is proposed for a given encoding window. Finally, we define an optimization problem to minimize the average distortion for given channel rates and packet loss rates by controlling spatio-temporal parameters of source video and FEC block sizes. Then, we propose a window-based algorithm to solve the problem in real-time.
The scalable extension of the H.264/AVC video coding standard (SVC) demonstrates superb adaptability in video communications. Joint source and channel coding (JSCC) has been shown to be very effective for such scalable video consisting of parts of different significance. In this paper, a new JSCC scheme for SVC transmission over packet loss channels is proposed which performs two-dimensional optimization on the quality layers of each frame in a rate-distortion (R-D) sense as well as on the temporal hierarchical structure of frames under dependency constraints. To compute the end-to-end R-D points of a frame, a novel reduced trellis algorithm is developed with a significant reduction of complexity from the existing Viterbi-based algorithm. The R-D points of frames are sorted under the hierarchical dependency constraints and optimal JSCC solution is obtained in terms of the best R-D performance. Experimental results show that our scheme outperforms the existing scheme of [13] with average quality gains of 0.26 dB and 0.22 dB for progressive and non-progressive modes respectively.
This paper proposes a novel transport network architecture for the next generation network (NGN) based on the optical burst switching technology. The proposed architecture aims to provide efficient delivery of various types of network traffic by satisfying their quality-of-service constraints. To this end, we have developed a soft-state bandwidth reservation mechanism, which enables NGN transport nodes to dynamically reserve bandwidth needed for active data burst flows. The performance of the proposed mechanism is evaluated by means of numerical analysis and NS2 simulation. Our results show that the packet delay is kept within the constraint for each traffic flow and the burst loss rate is remarkably improved.
This study focuses on the concept of multi-scale wireless sensor networks for damage detection in civil infrastructure systems by first over viewing the general network philosophy and attributes in the areas of data acquisition, data reduction, assessment and decision making. The data acquisition aspect includes a scalable wireless sensor network acquiring acceleration and strain data, triggered using a Restricted Input Network Activation scheme (RINAS) that extends network lifetime and reduces the size of the requisite undamaged reference pool. Major emphasis is given in this study to data reduction and assessment aspects that enable a decentralized approach operating within the hardware and power constraints of wireless sensor networks to avoid issues associated with packet loss, synchronization and latency. After over viewing various models for data reduction, the concept of a data-driven Bivariate Regressive Adaptive INdex (BRAIN) for damage detection is presented. Subsequent examples using experimental and simulated data verify two major hypotheses related to the BRAIN concept: (i) data-driven damage metrics are more robust and reliable than their counterparts and (ii) the use of heterogeneous sensing enhances overall detection capability of such data-driven damage metrics.
6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Sensor Network) standardized by IETF does not support the mobility of wireless sensor nodes. Since the wireless sensor node, subject to a lot of constraints in the CPU, memory, a battery is not easy to apply to existing protocols such as Mobile IPv6. In this paper, we propose a novel mobility management architecture and methods to work with 6LoWPAN based on the analysis on FPMIPv6 (Fast PMIPv6) the host is not a handover procedure performed in order to support the mobility of such sensor nodes. It was suggested the use of a dispatch code pattern that is not currently used in 6LoWPAN for inter-working, MAG and MAC, MAC in order to reduce packet loss caused as the authentication delay in the handover process to minimize the power consumption of a sensor node that is caused by the re-transmission the new concept of temporary guarantee (temporary guarantee) and trust relationships (trust relationship) between AAA and introduced.

In sensor network environments, a sensor node has a limited power because of their resource constraints. Therefore it is important to efficiently use its power in sensor networks. Power consumption of sensor node is closely related to its amount of transmission data. So, we need to reduce the transmission data in order to minimize the power consumption. And sensor networks are inherently unreliable because radio transmission can fail, node can move, and so on. In this paper, we propose the reliable data aggregation protocol in order to these problems. This protocol performs the routing and the query inserting process at the same time to minimize the packet loss caused by network changes. And, this protocol removes the unnecessary routing caused by the periodic routing without query. Additionally, we suggest the countermeasure algorithm against the frequent errors in sensor networks.
