Nowadays, wireless packet data services are provided over Wireless MAN (WMAN) at a high data service rate, while 3G cellular networks provide wide-area coverage at a low data service rate. The integration of mobile WiMAX and 3G networks is essential, to serve users requiring both high-speed wireless access as well as wide-area connectivity. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer optimization scheme for a vertical handover between mobile WiMAX and 3G cellular networks. More specifically, L2 (layer 2) and L3 (layer 3) signaling messages for a vertical handover are analyzed and reordered/combined, to optimize the handover procedure. Extensive simulations using ns-2 demonstrate that the proposed scheme enhances the performance of a vertical handover between mobile WiMAX and 3G networks: low handover latency, high TCP throughput, and low UDP packet loss ratio.

High-Speed vehicles can be considered as multiple mobile nodes that move together in a large-scale mobile network. High-speed makes the time allowed for a mobile node to complete a handover procedure shorter and more frequently. Hence, several protocols are used to manage the mobility of mobile nodes such as Network Mobility (NEMO). However, there are still some problems such as high handover latency and packet loss. So efficient handover management is needed to meet Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for real-time applications. This paper utilizes the cross-layer seamless handover technique for network mobility presented in cellular networks. It extends this technique to propose QoS-aware NEMO protocol which considers QoS requirements for real-time applications. A novel analytical framework is developed to compare the performance of the proposed protocol with basic NEMO using cost functions for realistic city mobility model. The numerical results show that QoS-aware NEMO protocol improves the performance in terms of handover latency, packet delivery cost, location update cost, and total cost.
This paper presents NR (No Reference) Quality assessment method for IPTV or mobile IPTV. Because No Reference quality assessment method does not access the original signal so it is suitable for the real-time streaming service. Our proposed method use decoding parameters, such as quantization parameter, motion vector, and packet loss as a major network parameter. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, we carried out subjective test of video quality with the ITU-T P.910 ACR (Absolute Category Rating) method and obtained the mean opinion score (MOS) value for QVGA 180 video sequence coded by H.264/AVC encoder. Experimental results show the proposed quality metric has a high correlation (84%) to subjective quality.
In this paper, we propose an ATM-LAN IWU(interworking unit) with threshold based dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme. We analyze a discrete-time based finite queueing model with deterministic service times in order to investigate the performance of the proposed scheme. It is known that the arrival process of IP packets is bursty. So we use an MMPP(Markov Modulated Poisson Process) to model the bursty input traffic. As performance measures, we obtain the packet loss probability and the mean packet delay. We present some numerical results to show the effects of the thresholds on the performance of the DBAS(dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme).
In the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), the existing host-based handover scheme tends to induce large handover delays and packet loss rates. To deal with this problem, we are proposing a network-based handover scheme for HIP in the mobile networks, in which the access routers of the mobile node will establish a handover tunnel and will perform the route optimization for data transmission. We also discuss how to extend the HIP Update message to use the proposed handover scheme. From ns-2 simulations, we can see that the proposed handover scheme can significantly reduce the handover delay and packet losses during handover, as compared to the existing handover schemes.
This paper presents master key identifier based protocol steganography (MKIPS), a new approach toward creating a covert channel within the Secure Real-time Transfer Protocol, also known as SRTP. This can be achieved using the ability of the sender of Voice-over-Internet Protocol packets to select a master key from a pre-shared list of available cryptographic keys. This list is handed to the SRTP sender and receiver by an external key management protocol during session initiation. In this work, by intelligent utilization of the master key identifier field in the SRTP packet creation process, a covert channel is created. The proposed covert channel can reach a relatively high transfer rate, and its capacity may vary based on the underlying SRTP channel properties. In comparison to existing data embedding methods in SRTP, MKIPS can convey a secret message without adding to the traffic overhead of the channel and packet loss in the destination. Additionally, the proposed covert channel is as robust as its underlying user datagram protocol channel.

The common goals of designing a routing algorithm are not only to reduce control packet overhead, maximize throughput and minimize the end-to-end delay, but also take into consideration the energy consumption. Scalability is an important factor in designing an efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSN's). Three metrics (power consumption, time of transmission and packet loss rate) are used in order to compare three routing protocols which are AODV, DSDV and LEACH.
Multicasting over mobile IP network becomes more important with the increasing needs of supporting multimedia services in mobile network. The IETF has suggested two approaches which are remote subscription and bidirectional tunneling for supporting mobility management in multicasting over mobile IP. But these protocols have problems - the frequent reconstruction of multicast delivery tree, packet less during handoff, convergence problem, and so on. In this paper, we propose to use preconfiguration of multicast delivery tree when mobile host enters the foreign network. It will decrease the frequency of multicast delivery tree reconstruction, and reduce the packet loss during handoff, Also the multicast delivery tree maintained by Keep Alive messages makes the signaling overload of networks diminished.

Enhanced radio access technologies (RAT) are deployed in Next Generation Convergence Networks by the service providers so as to satisfy the basic requirements of end-users for e.g. QoS. Whenever the available resources are being shared simultaneously and dynamically by multiple users or distribution of allocated channels randomly, the deficiency of spectral resources and dynamic behavior of Network traffic in real time Networking, we may have problem. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm, computer simulation has been performed on NS-2 simulator and a comparison with the existing algorithms has been made.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve TCP performance over wireless links. TCP is known to have poor performance over wireless links because TCP has no mechanism to differentiate congestion loss from wireless loss, and treats all losses as congestive. We present a simple method to determine the cause of packet loss using the successive ECN. In addition, we present an algorithm to control the congestion window size based on the estimated queue state in order to guarantee the fairness and high link utilization.
