  • Even though a lot of researches to improve the performance of TCP over wireless networks have been performed, the performance of TCP cannot satisfy users under high packet loss rate of wireless networks. This paper addresses the problem of TCP Westwood under high packet loss rate and reveals the reasons through the extensive simulation analysis. The ABE(Available Bandwidth Estimation) of TCP westwood becomes incorrect due to TCP dynamics of loss recovery. Based on this observation, we propose two algorithms for enhancing the correctness of ABE. We have evaluated the effects of the proposed algorithms through simulation. The proposed algorithms have achieved more correct ABE under the packet loss rate less than 1%.

  • In this paper, we suggest criteria for objective measurement of speech quality in mobile VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services over wireless mobile internet such as mobile WiMAX networks. This is the case that voice communication service is available under other networks. When mobile VoIP service users in the mobile internet network based on packet call up PSTN and mobile network users, but there have not been relevant quality indexes and quality standards for evaluating speech quality of mobile VoIP. In addition, there are many factors influencing on the speech quality in packet network. Especially, if the degraded speech with packet loss transfers to the other network users through the handover, voice communication quality is significantly deteriorated by the transformation of speech codecs. In this paper, we eventually adopt the Gilbert-Elliot channel model to characterize packet network and assess the voice quality through the objective speech quality method of ITU-T P. 862. 1 MOS-LQO for the various call scenario from mobile VoIP service user to PSTN and mobile network users under various packet loss rates in the transmission channel environments. Our simulation results show that transformation of speech codecs results in the degraded speech quality for different transmission channel environments when mobile VoIP service users call up PSTN and mobile network users.

  • IEFT proposed MIPv6 for supporting IP movement. Mobile Node is involved signaling that cause handover latency in MIPv6. Recently, Proxy Mobile IPv6 is proposed by IETF for network-based mobility management to reduce overhead in mobile node still suffers from packet loss. PMIPv6 can decrease handover latency which related overhead in MN by using network agent. Therefore, MIPSHOP Working Group proposed fast handover for PMIPv6, fu this paper, we proposed packet bicasting scheme on dual interface mobile node that can support fast handover using PMIPv6 schemes. Further, a numerical analysis is provided to show the benefits of our scheme. In the analysis, various parameters are used to compare our scheme with another procedure.

  • Gradient projection (GP) technique is applied for solving the optical routing problem (ORP) in high speed packet switched networks. The ORP minimizing average network packet loss probability is non-convex due to packet losses at intermediate switching nodes and its routing solution cannot be directly sought by the GP algorithm. Thus the non-convex ORP is transformed into a convex problem called the reduced-ORP (R-ORP) for which the GP algorithm can be used to obtain a routing solution. Through simulations, the routing solution of the R-ORP is shown to be a good approximation to that of the original ORP. Theoretical upper bound of difference between two (ORP and R-ORP) routing solutions is also derived.

  • We can categorize mobility two main fields in IP environment. If Mobile IP manages macro mobility, Cellular IP deal with micro mobility. For seamless connection, it is major problem to reduce packet loss in the network layer during handoff. This paper will introduce a scheme which reduces packet loss during micro mobility which use indirect handoff mechanism in Cellular IP, and will verify the efficiency of that scheme by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a robust error concealment method for burst-packet-loss networks. The proposed error concealment algorithm can reduce the computational complexities of the existing error concealment methods. Moreover, experimental results show that the proposed method produces the better video quality than the conventional boundary matching algorithm.

  • In a network-based approach such as Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), the serving network controls the mobility management on behalf of a Mobile Node (MN), thereby eliminating a MN from any mobility-related signaling. Although PMIPv6 is being standardized by the IETF NetLMM WG, PMIPv6 still suffers from a lengthy handover latency and the on-the-fly packet loss during a handover. Therefore, this paper presents an enhanced fast handover scheme for PMIPv6. The proposed handover scheme uses the Neighbor Discovery message of IPv6 to reduce the handover latency and packet buffering at the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) to avoid the on-the-fly packet loss during a handover. In addition, it uses an additional packet buffering at the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) to solve the packet ordering problem. We evaluate the performance of the proposed handover scheme using both analytical model and simulation. The numerical analysis shows that the proposed scheme has a relatively shorter handover latency. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme could avoid the on-the-fly packet loss and ensure the packet sequence.

  • Nowadays, after appearance of wireless network the existent internet environment is changing into the united wire/wireless network. But the present TCP regards all of the packet losses on transmission as the packet tosses due to the congestion. When it is applied on the wireless path, it deteriorates the end-to-end TCP throughput because it regards the packet loss by handoff or bit error as the packet loss by the congestion and it reduces the congestion window. In this paper, for solving these problems we propose the method that controls the performance of TCP on the wireless link by extending ECN which is used as a congestion control mechanism on the existent wire link. This is the method that distinguished the packet loss due to the congestion from due to bit error or handoff on the wireless network, so it calls the congestion control mechanism only when there occurs the congestion in the united wire/wireless network.

  • We propose a new estimation method for rate adjustment in the face of a packet loss in the TFRC protocol, a TCP-Friendly congestion control protocol for UDP flows. Previous methods respond in a sensitive way to a single packet loss, resulting in oscillatory transmission behavior. This is an undesirable for multimedia services demanding constant bandwidth. The proposed TFRC provides more smooth and fair (against TCP flows) transmission through collective response based on multiple packets loss events. We show our "Exponential smoothing method" performs better than known "Weight smoothing method" in terms of smoothness and fairness.

  • The rapid growth of UnderWater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UW-ASNs) has led researchers to enhance underwater MAC protocols against limitations existing in underwater environment. We propose the customized robust real-time packet inspection mechanism with addressing the problem of the search for the data packet loss and network performance quality analysis in UW-ASNs, and describe our experiences using this approach. The goal of this work is to provide a framework to assess the network real-time performance quality. We propose a customized and adaptive mechanism to detect, monitor and analyze the data packets according to the MAC protocol standards in UW-ASNs. The packet analyzing method and software we propose is easy to implement, maintain, update and enhance. We take input stream as real data packets from sniffer node in capture mode and perform fully analysis. We were interested in developing software and hardware designed tool with the same capabilities which almost all terrestrial network packet sniffers have. Experimental results confirm that the best way to achieve maximum performance requires the most adaptive algorithm. In this paper, we present and offer the proposed packet analyzer, which can be effectively used for implementing underwater MAC protocols.
