Internet Protocols Over ABR and UBR Services: Problems, Approaches, and Their Evaluation (ABR과 UBR 서비스 상에서 인터넷 프로토콜: 문제점, 해결방안, 그리고 성능평가)

  • As the proliferation of multimedia traffic over High-speed Internet increases, ATM network will be vital to adopt as backbone network over various parts of Internet. In this paper, we investigate the performance of TCP/IP traffic flow over ABR and UBR of ATM service to study for the high throughput and good fairness by simulation technique. Although TCP is run in the transport layer, it is controlled by several methods, e.g, EPD, PPD, RED, EFCI, ER etc, in ATM layer when TCP uses the ABR/UBR service. Therefore, if one cell is discarded in ATM layer, a packet of TCp will be laost. And, also, along with the increasing of the number of VC among switches, the throughput and fairness will be degraded. In order to improve these degradations, we propose the effective parameter control operations of EFCI and ER on ABR service, and also suggest the buffer management methods on UBR service. Finally, through the simulation results, the improved throughput and fairness are shown.

An Adaptive Proportional Integral Active Queue Management Algorithm based on Self-Similar Traffic Rate Estimation in WSN

  • Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is made up of a number of sensor nodes and base stations. Traffic flow in WSN appears self-similar due to its data delivery process, and this impacts queue length greatly and makes queuing delay worse. Active queue management can be designed to improve QoS performance for WSN. In this paper, we propose self-similar traffic rate estimating algorithm named Power-Law Moving Averaging (PLMA) to regulate packet marking probability. This algorithm improves the availability of the rate estimation algorithm under the self-similar traffic condition. Then, we propose an adaptive Proportional Integral algorithm (SSPI) based on the estimation of the Self-Similar traffic rate by PLMA. Simulation results show that SSPI can achieve lower queue length jitter and smaller setting time than PI.

Throughput analysis of GBN ARQ scheme under correlated frame losses (상관성을 고려한 GBN ARQ 방식의 throughput 분석)

  • Bo-Back-N ARQ is widely used in packet networks for error and flow control methanisms. This paper analyzes the network throughput under the go-back-N schem. Contrast to other analytic methods which assume independent frame losses or the first order Markov frame analytic methods which assume independent frame losses or the first order Markov frame losses concoptually, the proposed method takes into account the correlation between successive frame losses in a congested node. Computer simulation shows that our method generates more accurate performance results that independent assumption method. We apply the proposed method to analyze the performance of BWM in high speed networs. Our results show that BWM maintains the independence between traffic streams.

Optimal SMDP-Based Connection Admission Control Mechanism in Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

  • Traffic management is a highly beneficial mechanism for satisfying quality-of-service requirements and overcoming the resource scarcity problems in networks. This paper introduces an optimal connection admission control mechanism to decrease the packet loss ratio and end-to-end delay in cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs). This mechanism admits data flows based on the value of information sent by the sensor nodes, the network state, and the estimated required resources of the data flows. The number of required channels of each data flow is estimated using a proposed formula that is inspired by a graph coloring approach. The proposed admission control mechanism is formulated as a semi-Markov decision process and a linear programming problem is derived to obtain the optimal admission control policy for obtaining the maximum reward. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism outperforms a recently proposed admission control mechanism in CRSNs.

  • Since the IP multicast was proposed, there have been many research works on reliable multicast protocols[1]. In multicast communication, many reliable multicast schemes were studied in order to overcome packet losses in the network. However the fact that packets are lost in the underlying networks but the solutions are sought in the end hosts makes the search for solutions difficult. If routers can identify packets before dropped from congestion, the routers can initiate recovery process. recovery scheme by routers is proposed. This scheme is much faster than by sender-initiated or receiver-initiated recovery and latency is smaller.

  • 홈 게이트웨이가 가져야 하는 기능에 대한 요구사항을 분석하고 통신사업자의 관점에서, QoS 기능과 IP 주소변환 기능을 중심으로 세부적인 스위칭 칩의 기능과 성능을 규정하였다. QoS 기능, 패킷 필터링 기능, 그리고 IPv6 주소체계 도입 등과 같이 급변하는 네트워크의 요구사항을 유연하게 수용하여, 칩의 기능과 성능을 수정하거나 추가할 수 있도록 패킷프로세서 기반으로 스위칭 칩을 설계하였으며, 홈 게이트웨이의 구성을 단순화하기 위해 스위칭 칩의 패킷 메모리와 룩업 메모리를 칩 내부에 내장하였다. 그리고 칩의 설계를 검증하기 위해 FPGA를 이용하여 6포트 스위칭 칩으로 구현하여 기능 및 성능시험을 수행하였다. NAT, Flow에 따른 패킷 분류 및 패킷 변경, SPQ, DWRR과 같은 스케줄링 등의 시험을 통하여 설계한 칩의 기능과 성능을 확인하였다.

Queue Management using Optimal Margin method to Improve Bottleneck Link Performance

  • In network routers, buffers are used to resolve congestion and reduce packet loss rate whenever congestion occurs at bottleneck link. Most of the existing methods to manage such buffers focus only on queue-length-based control as one loop which have some issues of low link utilization and system stability. In this paper, we propose a novel framework which exploits two-loop control method, e.g. queue-length and congestion window size, combined with optimal margin method to facilitate parameter choices. Simulation results in ns-2 demonstrate that bottleneck link performance can be improved with higher link utilization (85%) and shorter queue length (22%) than the current deployed scheme in commercial routers (RED and DropTail).

A MULTIPATH CONGESTION CONTROL SCHEME FOR HIGH-QUALITY MULTIMEDIA STREAMING

  • As network adaptive streaming technology becomes increasingly common, transport protocol also becomes important in guaranteeing the quality of multimedia streaming. At the same time, because of the appearance of high-quality video such as Ultra High Definition (UHD), preventing buffering as well as preserving high quality while deploying a streaming service becomes important. The Internet Engineering Task Force recently published Multipath TCP (MPTCP). MPTCP improves the maximum transmission rate by simultaneously transmitting data over different paths with multiple TCP subflows. However, MPTCP cannot preserve high quality, because the MPTCP subflows slowly increase the transmission rate, and upon detecting a packet loss, drastically halve the transmission rate. In this paper, we propose a new multipath congestion control scheme for high-quality multimedia streaming. The proposed scheme preserves high quality of video by adaptively adjusting the increasing parameter of subflows according to the network status. The proposed scheme also increases network efficiency by providing load balancing and stability, and by supporting fairness with single-flow congestion control schemes.

  • In this paper which it is relating to the DSRC system based road side equipment, we propose the protocol stack architecture of road side equipment and the process structure of the main RM, L7 and LLC layers which is road side equipment device as well. And also we design the signal flow and data-transfer process as well between road side equipment and on board equipment to describe the installation process between road side equipment and von board equipment based on DSRC system. Thus, it is possible to provide various application services between intelligent transportation systems of road side equipment and local server, as well as it enables the local server managing the memorys of on board equipment which entry in service area thru the road side equipment.

  • VoIP기술의 확산과 그에 따른 IP기반의 망을 포함한 packet, Multimedia서비스를 제공하는 서비스가 늘고있다. 그러나 실시한 서비스를 필요로 하는 이 서비스의 경우에는 그에 따르는 경로에 확실한 대역폭의 조건이 요구되고 있다. 하지만 best-effort방식을 사용하는 기존의 망에서는 대역폭의 확실한 보장이 이루지기 힘들다. 하지만 MPLS와 트래픽 엔지니어링 기술의 발전으로 다중경로 패킷 전달 및 동적인 부하 제어가 가능하게 되었다. 곧 차별화된 서비스에 따른 대역폭의 할당이 이루어질 수 있다. 동적인 부하 제어는 네트웍의 상태를 고려하여 경로간의 부하를 조절함으로써 네트웍의 효율성을 높일 수 있으나, 상태 정보의 시간차이에 의해 불안정한 상태에 이르기 쉽다. 본 논문에서는 차별화된 서비스를 하기 위해 부하의 할당을 안정적으로 변화시키면서도 효율적인 부하로 용량에 맞게 흐름을 받아들이고 패킷을 전송하는 기법을 제안한다.
