H/F Variation in Wolframites According to Depth and Temperature of Mineralization at Ssangjeon, Weolag, Cheongyang and Sannae Mines, Korea (쌍전, 월악, 청양 및 산내 철·망간중석 광산의 유체포유물 온도와 심도에 따른 H/F 값의 변화)

  • The variation of H/F coefficient (Hubnerite/Feberite coefficient) and the temperature of formation with depth have been studied for the hydrothermal tungsten-quartz veins from Ssangjeon, Weolag, Cheongyang, and Sannae mines. All samples were selected at the same paragenetic stage and mineral assemblege according to depth. The studied mines provide an opportunity to examine and regional variations in wolframite composition in different provinces. The formation temperature is linearly related to the depth. At the Weolag, Cheongyang and Sannae mines, the H/F ratio of wolframite and filling temperatures of fluid inclusions in quartz show a general tendency to decrease at shallow levels, in spite of different geological settings. This implies the pH of fluid will decrease vertically with falling temperature and the high H/F ratio of wolframite in deep zone result in an increase of pH with depth. The Ssangjeon mine exhibits a tendency to increase slightly upwards at shallow level. This implies a different geochemical environment (high pH environment) for the Ssangjeon mine, as compared to the other three mines. The H/F coefficient pattern suggests that it is a useful geothermometer for vein-type tungsten deposits in Korea. The H/F coefficient as an indication of depth should be examined for use in exploration.

Depth profiles and the behavior of heavy metal atoms contained in the soil around a Il-Kwang disused mine in Kyung Nam (경남 일광 폐광 부근 토양에 함유된 중금속의 깊이별 분포와 거동)

  • We investigated the content of heavy metals contained in the soil at an Il-Kwang disused mine in Kyung Nam. Three sampling points were selected, each point was digged to 210 or 240cm, sampled each 30cm depth. After air drying, each sample was digested in aqua regia and then analyzed with an Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer. We determined the content of Zn, Pb, Cr, Cd, Cu, Mn, and Fe, maximum content of Pb, Cd, and Zn was observed to $(4.6{\pm}0.1){\times}10^3$, 9.4(${\pm}3.6$), and $(2.7{\pm}0.1){\times}10^2{\mu}g/g$ respectively. Mean pH values of soil sampled at No.1, 2, and 3 regions were 3.2, 2.6, and 2.8, respectively. These values are remarkably lower than pH of the conventional standard soil which usually shows pH level around 4.9. At each sampling point, maximum content of heavy metals was observed from 30cm to 60cm depth. The depth profiles of Zn, Cd, Pb, and Cr showed very similar tendencies to each other, but those of Fe, Cu. and Mn showed different tendencies to former ones.

  • In Kunsan coastal areas, there are some plans to construct industrial zone and, it will affect physical and chemical parameters of marine environment of the area. As one of many environmental surveys on the aquacultural farm in Korean west coast, the survey on the bottom sediment characteristics of intertidal farm was conducted from May 1992 to April 1993. Dominant grain size was fine sand $(69-98\%)$ and the pH of sediment was ranged of $7.2\~9.1$. Especially the pH increased after embank was constructed. The water holding capacity was $11.1-28.1\%$ and showed high value in silt and clay area. The COD was 1.27 mg/g dry mud and increased after embank was constructed. The total organic matter content ranged of $0.84-8.11\%$ and the DO absorption was $0\~6.56 mg/g$ dry mud. The value of DO absorption showed low in winter and spring, but high in summer and fall. The total nitrogen and the sulfide were rang of $0\~402{\mu}g/g$ dry mud and $0\~122{\mu}g/g$ dry mud respectively. These values were high in summer and winter season, and higher in upper layer than that of lower layer in general.

  • ionic equilbria of nickel chloride in hydrochloric acid solutions were analyzed by considering chemical equilibria, mass and charge balance equations. The activity coefficients of solutes were calculated by using Bromley equation. It was found that most of species containing nickel existed as $Ni^{2+}$$NiCl^{+}$. The mole fractions of nickel hydroxides were very low in the con-centration ranges considered in this study and the mole fraction of$Ni_4$ $(OH)_{4}^{4+}$ increased greatly with the pH of the solution. The pH values of $NiCl_2$ $-HCl-NaOH-H_2$O system at $25^{\circ}C$ calculated in this study agreed well with those experimentally measured up to ionic strength of 9.4m.

  • Ultrafiltration membranes (UF) were manufactured by the conventional phase inversion method using an additives with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone as a solvent. Characteristics of performance could be controlled by the preparation conditions and the operating methods. The fouling resistance was observed by the relative ratio of permeate flux $(J_t)$/pure water flux $(J_o)$. Compared with the anion charged membranes and its original polyamide membrane, fouling resistance to the protein was increasing in proportion to the ion exchange capacity. The relative flux for the bovin serum albumin (BSA) solution increased as pH value further away from isoelectric point of BSA. The hydrophilicity of a membrane, the pH condition, and the operating temperature played the important role in the membrane permeations.

  • This study was executed to investigate proper storage conditions for freshness of lunch-box and prevention of lunch-box borne illness. When boiled rice was put into the empty lunch-box without cooling, temperature of the lunch-box was $70^{\circ}C$ to be able to destroy vegetative cell of microoganism in the lunch-box. Temperature of the side-dish canister that is placed on the hot lunch-box was increased from $15^{\circ}C$ to $53^{\circ}C$. The use of the insulator(one to two layer) between the lunch-box and side-dish canister was effective in insulation of the heat that is conducted from the hot lunch-box to the side-dish canister. The insulation layer(asbestos) was also effective to inhibit the decrease of pH value and growth of microoganisms in the toiled rice and side-dish during storage of the lunch-box. The number of microoganisms in the lunch-box covered without cooling was less than in the case of lunch-box covered after cooling; however, the amount of generation in condensed water that is responsible for swelling of boiled rice in the lunch-box occurred much more in the one than in the other, and was a little generated in the case of high temperature storage, insulator use, and when covering the lunch-box after cooling, and pre-evaporation by stirring boiled rice in the cooking pot before filling it. In addition, inserting the heat insulators on and bottom of the lunch-box the boiled rice can be eaten without coldness in winter season.

Quality Characteristics and Dough Rheological Properties of Pan Bread with Waxy Barley Powder (찰보리 분말을 첨가한 식빵의 레올로지 및 품질특성)

  • This study investigates waxy barley powder substituted for wheat flour in bread recipes with the amounts of 0%(control), 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Waxy barley powder consisted of 8.33% of moisture content, 10.47% of crude protein, 1.63% of crude fat, and 2.97% of crude ash. Sedimentation value and pelshenke value have decreased as the waxy barley powder content increased. The farinograph measurement result of the bread made with waxy barley powder showed that consistency, water absorption, development time, stability and time breakdown have increased as the waxy barley powder content increased. The amylograph measurement result of the bread made with waxy barley powder showed that T have increased as the waxy barley powder content increased. Their P, H and P-H have decreased as the ingredient contents increased. Baking loss and specific loaf volume have decreased as the waxy barley powder content increased. The chromaticity measurement result of the bread made with waxy barley powder showed no significant difference as the waxy barley powder content increased. The texture measurement result showed that the hardness and gumminess of bread have increased as the waxy barley powder content increased. Their cohesiveness, springiness and chewiness have decreased as the ingredient contents increased. Overall preference scores showed a high acceptability for the bread made with 10% waxy barley powder.

A Study on the Electrometric Measurement of the pH of Acid Rain (산성비의 pH 측정에 대한 연구)

  • In general, acid rain is unbuffered solution with low ionic strength and high resistance. Therefore during the pH measurement of acid rain, error can be occurred due to the liquid junction potential difference between the sample and the standard solution. Actually the average conductivity of rain in Taeduk Science Town during 1998 is 12.8 ${\mu}S/cm$, while that of pH standmd solutions is about 5,980 ${\mu}S/cm$. There is a large difference in ionic strength. To compensate the bias due to residual liquid junction potentials, a quality control standard(QCS) of dilute sulfuric acid, which has the conductivity and pH values simikw to rain, was prepared. The pH of QCS solution was determined using the hydrogen electrode system without liquid junction, and compensation has been made for the bias terms by performing the pH measurements with glass electrode. On the basis of this compensation method, the pH vaiues of rain in Taeduk Science Town during 1998 were measured.

  • Recently, the detection of pH with real-time and in vivo has been focal pointed in the environmental or medical fields. In this work, we developed the pH sensor using graphene sheet. Graphene has high biocompatibility. We fabricated flexible solution-gated field-effect transistors (SGFETs) on graphene sheet transferred on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to detect pH in electrolyte solution. The gate length was $500{\mu}m$ and the gate width was 8 mm. We evaluated the current-voltage (I-V) transfer characteristics of graphene SGFETs in pH solution. The drain-source current ($I_{DS}$) and the gate-source voltage ($V_{GS}$) curves of graphene SGFETs were depended on pH value. The Dirac point of graphene SGFETs linearly shifted to the positive direction about 19.32 mV/pH depending on the pH value in electrolyte solution.

  • The study war carried out to evaluate the characteristics of inorganic phosphate factions in soil mixed with paper mill sludge compost(PMSC). The experiments were conducted by an incubation test. For the incubation test, application rates of PMSC to soil were 0, 2, 8, and 16%. Water content of the samples mixed with PMSC were adjusted to 10% and 15% and incubating temperatures of the samples were kept at $4^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results can be concluded as follows; pH increased depending on the higher rates of PMSC application to the soil during the incubation tests, because calcium content was $4.9cmol_c/kg$ and contents of nutrients were high. When the application rates of PMSC were increased Saloid-P and Fe-P decreased, while Al-P and Ca-P in soil increased during the incubation tests.
