  • A graph is $s$-regular if its automorphism group acts regularly on the set of its $s$-arcs. In this paper, the cubic $s$-regular graphs of order 12p, 36p, 44p, 52p, 66p, 68p and 76p are classified for each $s{\geq}1$ and each prime $p$. The number of cubic $s$-regular graphs of order 12p, 36p, 44p, 52p, 66p, 68p and 76p is 4, 3, 7, 8, 1, 4 and 1, respectively. As a partial result, we determine all cubic $s$-regular graphs of order 70p except for $p$ = 31, 41.

Role of Akt in Insulin-Mediated Increase in Expression of Microsomal Epoxide Hydrolase (인슐린 매개성 Microsomal Epoxide Hydrolase의 발현증가에서 Akt의 역할)

  • The present study examines the effect of dominant-negative Akt on the insulin-mediated microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) induction in rat hepatocytes. We also assessed the role of insulin in the expression of soluble epoxide hydrrolase (sEH). Insulin increased mEH levels and the enzyme activities, whereas sEH protein expression was unaffected by insulin. The specific PI3K inhibitors or p70 S6 kinase inhibitor ameliorated the insulin-mediated increase in mEH protein levels. Infection with adenovirus expressing dominant-negative and kinase-dead mutant of Akt1 effectively inhibited the insulin-mediated increase in mEH expression and mEH activity. These results suggest that mEH and sEH are differentially regulated by insulin and PI3K/Akt/p70S6K are active in the insulin-mediated regulation of mEH expression.

Research on Optimizing Luminosity Factor Through Color Filter $Y_{1-X}G_X$, $Y_{1-X}P_X$ ($Y_{1-X}G_X$, $Y_{1-X}P_X$ 칼라필터를 통한 시감도 최적화 연구)

  • Purpose: To find optimized luminosity factor of color from light transmission filter. Methods: To make $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$, $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ by using CR-39 compound within dipping method, mixing up Y(Yellow), G(green) and P(pink) for optimize eye sensitivity. Modeling for relative luminous efficiency(relative sensitivity) curves in Luminose transmission, it could be resolved by Multiplying sensitivity of eye within transmission rate of Lens ($P_f({\lambda}=T({\lambda}){\cdot}P({\lambda}).)$.). To evaluate Wavelength between 400~700 nm, relative luminous efficiency curve in Area and Height value is being used. Results: In color filter of $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$ position of x equals to 0.04, 0.1, 0.08, 0.12, 0.14, 0.5 at ${\beta}=S_1/S_0{\cdot}100$ each consist value of 76.1, 77.9, 80.7, 81.6, 80.2, 18.6 In color filter of $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ position of x equals to 1.00, 0.2, 0.6, 0.8 at ${\beta}=S_1/S_0{\cdot}100$ each consist value of 74.3, 74.0, 70.5, 33.0 The result from experiment $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ value less than $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$, from evaluating luminous efficiency curve and test was successfully optimized. Conclusions: Optimized relative luminous efficiency curve result have value of X=0.12-0.14 at $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$.

Melittin inhibits cell migration and invasion via blocking of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer cells (EMT 억제를 통한 멜리틴의 폐암세포 이동 및 침투 억제 효과)

  • Melittin is the main component of apitoxin (bee venom) that has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Herein, we demonstrated that inhibition of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by melittin causes suppression of cancer cell migration and invasion. Melittin significantly suppressed the epidermal growth factor (EGF)-induced cell migration and invasion in lung cancer cells. Moreover, melittin up-regulated the expression of epithelial marker protein, E-cadherin, and down-regulated the expression of EMT related proteins, vimentin and fibronectin. Mechanistic studies revealed that melittin markedly suppressed the expression of EMT mediated transcription factors, ZEB2, Slug, and Snail. The EGF-induced phosphorylation of AKT, mTOR, P70S6K, and 4EBP1 was also inhibited by melittin, but not that of ERK and JNK. Therefore, the inhibitory effect of melittin on migration and invasion of lung cancer cells may be associated with the inhibition of EMT via blocking of the AKT-mTOR-P70S6K-4EBP1 pathway.

Relationship between oral environment and halitosis (구강환경과 구취와의 관련성)

  • Objective : This study was performed in order to provide basic data for halitosis prevention and establish a device to efficiently eliminate halitosis and to analyze the factors that affect the halitosis. Methods : Oral examination on the Gingival index, CPITN, Tongue Plaque index, and OHI-S as well as halitosis measurement among 293 rural residents. Results : Gingival index was high at mild on female and at moderate on male(p=0.025). Sorting the result by age, mild was 54.1% in the 40s, and moderate was 49.5%, 42.0% and 70.0% each in the 50s, 60s, and the 70s(p=0.005). The need for dental plaque management was 100%. The need for scaling was high with 78.3%, 93.0%, 89.9%, and 90.0% each for the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. The need for complex periodontal treatment was also high with 32.4%, 47.5%, 48.7% and 60.0%, each for the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s(p=0.050). The highest bad condition for OHI-S was 69.5%, and good being 18.9%, and very bad being 11.6%. For moderate tongue plaque index was 74.4% as the highest. As the level of education increased, the slight tongue plague was increased, but in contrast, the moderate and higher tongue plague index was decreased(p=0.010). OG under 50ppm was 61.1% on male and OG over 50ppm was 50.9% on female(p=0.041). In OG over 50ppm, CPITN was 52.1% and 41.9% in scaling and complex periodontal treatment group(p=0.018). OHI-S, in bad and very bad condition with OG, over 50ppm, was 48.7% and 46.9%(p=0.019). The higher tongue plague index showed significant amount of increase at OG and EG above 50ppm(p=0.006). $NH_3$, as the tongue plaque index increased, the wider range of distribution was shown(p=0.000). As for the multiple regression analysis result, there have been selected females and tongue plaque index as factors affecting OG. There have been selected age and tongue plaque index as factors affecting EG and there have been selected females as factors affecting on $NH_3$. Conclusions : With the aforementioned results in mind, the status of halitosis among rural residents is considered to bare a close relation with oral environments. we have to focus on correct tooth brushing methods and tongue brushing, with using tongue cleaner to remove fur of tongue plaque. Also, in order to analyze exactly the factors of individual halitosis, we need continuous and systematic study.

Responses of Bacteria to TNT: Cells′Survival, SDS-PAGE and 2-D Electrophoretic Analyses of Stress-Induced Proteins (TNT에 대한 세균의 반응기작: 생존율, 스트레스 유도단백질의 SDS-PAGE 및 2-D 전기영동 분석)

  • The cellular responses of soil-borne bacterium, Pseudomonas sp. HK-6 to explosive 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) were examined. Two stress shock proteins (SSPs), approximately 70-kDa DnaK and a 60-kDa GroEL were found in HK-6 cells in response to TNT. Analyses of SDS-PAGE and Western blot using anti-DnaK and GroEL revealed that SSPs were induced in HK-6 cells exposed to 0.5 M of TNT far 6-12 hrs. The maximum induction of proteins was achieved at 8-hr incubation point after HK-6 cells'exposure to TNT. Similar SSPs were found to be induced in HK-6 cells by heat shock (shift of temperature, from $30^{\circ}C$ to $42^{\circ}C$) or cold shock (shift of temperature,$30^{\circ}C$ to $4^{\circ}C$).2D-PAGE of soluble protein tractions from the culture of Pseudomonas sp. HX-6 exposed to TNT demonstrated that approximately 450 spots were observed on the silver stained gels ranging from pH 3 to pH 10. Among them, 12 spots significantly induced and expressed in response to TNT were selected and analyzed. Approximately 60-kDa protein, which was assumed highly expressed on the gel, was used for amino acid sequencing. N-terminal microsequencing with in-gel digestion showed that N-terminal sequence of the TNT-induced protein, <$^1XXAKDVKFGDSARKKML^17$, shared extensive similarity with $^1XXAKDVKFGDSARKKML^17$, N-terminal sequence of (P48216) GroEL of Pseudomonas putida.

Comparison of antioxidant activities and polyphenolic compounds of extracts from artificially cultivated Sanghwang mushroom species, Phellinus linteus and P. baumii (인공재배 상황버섯 재배종 Phellinus linteus 와 P. baumii 자실체 추출물의 항산화활성과 폴리페놀 성분 비교)

  • P. linteus (Korea Sanghwang, PLKS) and P. baumii (Jangsoo Sangwhang, PBJS) were artificially cultivated under the same conditions. Fruiting bodies were extracted using 70% methanol, 60% ethanol, and hot water. Phenol and flavonoid contents were optimally extracted using 60% ethanol. Antioxidant activities of 60% ethanol extracts from fruiting bodies and mycelia from each Sanghwang mushroom species were measured using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbisthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activities, and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power). The antioxidant activities of fruiting bodies were relatively higher in comparison to those of mycelial samples. In high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, styrylpyrone-class poly phenolic compounds, davallialactone, hispidin, hypholomine B, and inoscavin A were detected in fruiting body samples of two Sanghwang mushroom species, but not in their mycelial samples.

Anticariogenic Activity and Glucosyltransferase Inhibitory Effects of Extracts from Pine Needle and Twig (솔잎 및 소나무 가지 추출물의 항충치 활성 및 glucosyltransferase 억제 효과)

  • To investigate anticariogenic effects of extracts from pine needles and twigs, we measured the extracts' antimicrobial activities against Streptococcus mutans, their glucosyltransferase (GTase) inhibitory effects and their stabilities under various conditions of heat and pH. The 70% ethanol extracts of pine needles and twigs showed greater antimicrobial activities against S. mutans than the hot water extracts, and the pine twig extracts showed greater antimicrobial activity than the pine needle extracts. More specifically, the n-hexane fractions of the pine needles and twigs had the greatest effects against S. mutans, and their minimal inhibition concentration (MIC) was 0.6 mg/mL. The results of the extracts' GTase inhibitory effects indicated that the 70% ethanol extracts had greater effects than hot water extracts, and the pine twig extracts showed greater effects than the pine needle extracts. The antimicrobial activity against S. mutans for the pine needle n-hexane traction was greatly reduced as temperature increased, and was also largely affected by changes in pH. These results suggest that extracts from pine needles and twigs have anticariogenic effects and could be used as anticariogenic food additives.

Purification and Characterization of Inulin Fructotransferase (Depolymerizing) from Arthrobacter sp. A-6

  • Inulin fructotransferase (depolymerizing) (EC 2.4.1.93) was purified 34-fold from the culture broth of Arthrobacter sp. A-6 by using a combination of ammonium sulfate fractionation, DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B chromatography and Sephacryl S-200 gel filtration. The purified enzyme converts inulin into di-D-fructofuranose dianhydride III(DFA III) and small quantities of fructo-oligosaccharides. The temperature and pH optima of the enzyme were $70^{\circ}C$ and 6.0, respectively. Molecular weight of the enzyme was determined to be 49 kDa by 12$%$ SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and 145 kDa by Sephacryl S-200gel filtration. This indicates that the functional inulin fructotransferase of Arthrobacter sp. A-6 has a homomeric trimer structure. The enzyme had an isoelectric point of pH 4.6. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the purified enzyme subunit was Ala-Asp-Asn-Pro-Asp-Gly(\ulcorner)-Ser-Asn-Met(or Glu)-Tyr-Asp-Val.

Variations of pH Values and EC of Stemflow of 5 Tree Species in Chunchon Districts, Kangwon-do (강원도(江原道) 춘천시(春川市) 지역(地域)에 있어서 5개(個) 수종(樹種) 수간류(樹幹流)의 pH 및 전기전도도(電氣傳導度) 변화(變化))

  • This study investigated pH values and EC changes of rainfall and stemflow were investigated for 5 tree species such as Pinus koraiensis, P. densiflora, Larix leptolepis, Quercus variabilis and Q. mongolica in the Experiment Forests, College of Forest Science, Kangwon National University. The results were as follows; 1. Mean month pH values of stemflow were much lower than those of rainfall. Among tree species, pH values of the coniferous such as P. densiflora, P. koraiensis and L. leptolepis were lower those of the deciduous such as Q. mongolica and Q. variabilis. Mean month pH values of stemflow ranged from 3.23 to 5.03 (average : 4.23) for P. koraiensis, 3.57 to 5.16 (average : 4.36) for P. densiflora, 3.41 to 6.69 (average : 4.45) for L. leptolepis, 3.86 to 6.11 (average : 4.70) for Q. variabilis and 4.39 to 6.13 (average : 5.18) for Q. mongolica. 2. Mean month EC of the coniferous species was 1.5 to 2 times higher than that of the deciduous species. Mean month EC of stemflow for P. koraiensis, P. densiflora, L. leptolepis, Q. variabilis and Q. mongolica was ranged from 29.0 to $946.5{\mu}S/cm$(average : $258.5{\mu}S/cm$), 18.6 to $907.5{\mu}S/cm$(average : $220.3{\mu}S/cm$), 27.0 to $918.0{\mu}S/cm$(average : $216.2{\mu}S/cm$), 16.5 to $301.6{\mu}S/cm$(average : $125.4{\mu}S/cm$) and $25.2{\sim}225.7{\mu}S/cm$(average : $101.5{\mu}S/cm$), respectively. 3. Average pH values and EC were highly variable according to season. Average pH values appeared lower in spring than those in summer and autumn, but EC appeared higher in spring than those lower in summer and autumn. 4. According to precipitation, there was little difference in and pH values of stemflow the coniferous and the deciduous showed low pH valuess in the case of less than 50mm precipitation. However, EC of stemflow showed a difference depending on the precipitation, and EC of the coniferous and the deciduous was high more than $100{\mu}S/cm$ at the precipitation of less than 50mm.
