체력진단 평가를 통한 뇌성마비 아동과 정상아동의 운동능력 비교연구 (Comparison of Motor Fitness of Cerebral Palsy Chidren with normal throug Phyisical Fitness Diagnosis Evaluation)

  • The aim of this study is to compared the cerebral palsy children with normal children in the exercise and cardio vascular ability after this study as the fundamental data fer mating programs for the cerebral palsy children. The test of this study is about twenty girls, the control group of the normal children(n=10) and the experiment group of cerebral palsy children(n=10). They were studied in four aspects which were the anthropometry, the medical check in the rest, the physical fitness or exercise roads test and the change of the target heart rate during exercise. The result were as follows : 1. The characteristic of the physical type : The control group is higher than the experiment group in the standing height and the body weight but their's little difference between them (p<0.05). The control group is lower than the experiment group in the body fat. 2. The characteristic of the medical check in the rest : The control group is higher than the experiment group in the vital capacity and flood expiratoryvolume one second. The control group is higher that the experiment group in the blood pressure of systolic and Diastolic. There's little difference between them(p<0.01). The control is lower than the experiment group in the heart pulse rate. There's little difference between them(p<0.005). 3. The characteristic of basic physical strength evaluation : The experiment group is the lowest dynamic muscular endurance, balance, agility and endurance which need to move the body with weight. The control group is much higher than the experiment group in the flexibility and muscle strength(Back strength). There's no difference between them(p<0.05). 4. The characteristics of the exercise stress last : The control group is higher than the experiment group in the endurance, the maximum of oxygen intake, endurance level and the out take of calory. There's little difference between them(p<0.01). 5. The characteristic of the change of the target heart rate during exercise : The control group is lower than the experiment group exchange of target heart rate, There's no difference them.

울산 지역 당뇨 질환 노인의 항산화 영양소 섭취실태 및 혈액 항산화 영양상태 (Dietary Antioxidant Vitamins Intakes and Plasma Antioxidant Levels in Korean Elderly with Diabetes Living in Ulsan)

  • Diabetic mellitus in an older population is associated with increased basal oxidative stress and free radical accentuated by hyperglycemic challenge. Enhanced free radical in diabetic elderly can cause the oxidative damage and such damage can be protected by antioxidant defense system. It is believed that vitamin C, A and E are the most abundant and effective antioxidants in human plasma. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant status in Korean diabetic elderly using the case-control study. The antioxidant status was examined by determining plasma levels of antioxidant vitamins (vitamin C, A, E, ${\beta}$-carotene), total antioxidant status (TAS) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) and intakes of vitamin C, A, ${\beta}$-carotene and retiol. Fasting glucose and HbA1c levels and serum lipid profiles (triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol) were also determined. Diabetic subjects were 122 elderly persons over 60 years old, visiting public health center, and control subjects were 96 healthy elderly persons living in Ulsan, Korea and they were matched by age, gender, smoking and drinking status. The diabetic and control subjects were divided into sub-groups according to the status of using diet therapy and vitamin supplement. The subjects were interviewed to collect data on their general characteristics, disease history, vitamin supplement, diet therapy and health-related habits by questionnaires. Their dietary intakes were obtained by means of semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires (SQFFQ). Fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c levels were significantly higher in diabetes than in control subjects, and plasma total cholesterol level of diabetes was not significantly different from that of control subjects. However serum HDL cholesterol level of diabetes was significantly lower and serum TG level of diabetes was significantly higher than those of control group. The average vitamin A and ${\beta}$-carotene intakes of diabetes were significantly higher than those of control subjects. There was no significant difference in plasma vitamin C, ${\beta}$-carotene, and TBARS levels between two groups, but plasma vitamin A, E and TAS levels were significantly higher in diabetes than those in control group. Plasma vitamin A and TAS levels of diabetic subjects using diet therapy were higher than those of control using diet therapy, and plasma vitamin E, ${\beta}$-carotene and TAS levels of diabetic subjects using vitamin supplements were significantly higher than those of controls using vitamin supplements. These results suggested that diabetic mellitus could enhance antioxidant defences against reactive oxygen species and interest in healthy eating such as consumption of more antioxidant nutrients.

Dronedarone hydrochloride enhances the bioactivity of endothelial progenitor cells via regulation of the AKT signaling pathway

  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its complications are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. Because of the side effects and incomplete recovery from current therapy, stem cell therapy emerges as a potential therapy for CVD treatment, and endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) is one of the key stem cells used for therapeutic applications. The effect of this therapy required the expansion of EPC function. To enhance the EPC activation, proliferation, and angiogenesis using dronedarone hydrochloride (DH) is the purpose of this study. DH received approval for atrial fibrillation treatment and its cardiovascular protective effects were already reported. In this study, DH significantly increased EPC proliferation, tube formation, migration, and maintained EPCs surface marker expression. In addition, DH treatment up-regulated the phosphorylation of AKT and reduced the reactive oxygen species production. In summary, the cell priming by DH considerably improved the functional activity of EPCs, and the use of which might be a novel strategy for CVD treatment.

  • 광역학 요법(photodynamic therapy)은 특정 파장의 빛에 의해 활성화되는 광민감제(photosensitizer)를 사용하여 세포 내 산소를 활성화시키는 치료 방법으로, 항생제 내성균에 의한 상처 감염의 치료에 유망한 접근 방법이다. 일반적으로 건강한 사람에게 비병원성인 녹농균(Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. aeruginosa)은 특정 병원성 징후를 보이지 않지만, 피부 손상이나 면역력이 저하된 사람들에서는 패혈증과 같은 심각한 질병을 유발할 수 있다. 항생제는 P. aeruginosa 감염에 대한 전통적인 치료법이나 약물 오용으로 인한 항생제 내성의 증가는 이러한 감염을 관리하는 데 큰 어려움을 준다. 본 연구에서는 P. aeruginosa의 억제제로서 광민감제(PhotoMed, Methyl pheophorbide A, Radachlorin®)와 다이오드 레이저를 이용한 광역학 치료 효과를 조사하는 것을 목표로 했다. P. aeruginosa 현탁액과 광민감제(PhotoMed, Methyl pheophorbide A, Radachlorin®)를 페트리 접시에 접종하여 30분 후 다이오드 레이저를 사용하여 3 J/cm2의 에너지 밀도로 조사했다. 그 결과, P. aeruginosa는 PhotoMed에서 79.65%, Methyl pheophorbide A에서 47.36%, Radachlorin®에서 40.91%의 사멸률을 보였다. 이번 연구는 P. aeruginosa를 억제하기 위한 가장 효과적인 접근법이 PhotoMed와 다이오드 레이저를 이용한 광역학 치료임을 보여준다.

응급구조과 학생의 현장실습 수행활동 조사 연구 (A Study on the Performance Activities in Emergency Medical Technology Students Field Training)

  • This study was conducted to acquire the basic materials for effective field training to identify performance activities of emergency medical technology students. The method used in the study was a descriptive survey using a skill checklist. The subjects for the study were 43 emergency medical technology students who were 2nd grade in D college. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS computer program, yielding frequencies and percentage. The results of study were as follows; 1. In 'emergency treatment skill', 26.6% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 22.1% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 2. In 'airway management', 41.9% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 14.1% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 3. In 'oxygen therapy', 52.8% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 35.6% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 4. In 'ventilation skill', 17.8% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 10.7% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 5. In 'vital sign check', 61.1% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 56.3% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 6. In 'patient assessment', 40.7% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 20.0% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 7. In 'basic life support(CPR)', 1.7% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 11.9% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 8. In 'airway obstruction', 6.4% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 1.1% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'. 9. In 'electrical therapy', 0.7% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'ambulance practice' and 20.0% of subjects are revealed as 'performed' in 'clinical practice'.

개에서 소리공포증에 의해 발생한 상대적 적혈구증가증 증례 (Noise Phobia-Induced Relative Polycythemia in a Dog)

  • 6년령의 수컷 미니어쳐 핀셔견이 천둥소리로 인한 떨림, 빈호흡 및 부적절한 배뇨를 주증으로 내원하였다. 환축은 2년전 발생한 교통사고 이후 큰 소리에 공포감을 가지게 되었으며, 이는 천둥 발생이 잦은 지난 3개월간 지속적으로 나빠졌다. 기본 신체검사에서 미열, 빈호흡, 빈맥과 함께 혈압의 상승이 확인되었다. 실험실 검사에서 동맥혈의 산소포화도 감소와 함께 적혈구증가증이 확인되었다. 병력, 신체검사 및 실험실적 검사를 바탕으로 본 환축은 소리공포증과 함께 발생한 상대적 적혈구증가증으로 진단 되었다. 증상의 완화를 위하여, 행동교정 및 탈감각화, 반대조건화, 그리고 약물치료가 시작되었다. 다른 치료들과 함께 음악치료도 병행되었으며, 치료기간 중 임상증상 및 적혈구증가증이 개선되었다. 따라서, 본 증례는 소리공포증과 같은 만성적인 스트레스에 의하여 발생한 상대적 적혈구증가증의 진단증례 보고 이다.

Superoxide dismutase 3 protects mesenchymal stem cells through enhanced autophagy and regulation of FoxO3a trafficking

  • Therapeutic applications of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are limited due to their early death within the first few days of transplantation. Therefore, to improve the efficacy of cell-based therapies, it is necessary to manipulate MSCs so that they can resist various stresses imposed by the microenvironment. Moreover, the role of superoxide dismutase 3 (SOD3) in regulating such survival under different stress conditions remain elusive. In this study, we overexpressed SOD3 in MSCs (SOD3-MSCs) and evaluated its effect under serum starvation conditions. Nutritional limitation can decrease the survival rate of transplanted MSCs and thus can reduce their efficacy during therapy. Interestingly, we found that SOD3-MSCs exhibited reduced reactive oxygen species levels and greater survival rates than normal MSCs under serum-deprived conditions. In addition, overexpression of SOD3 attenuated starvation-induced apoptosis with increased autophagy in MSCs. Moreover, we have demonstrated that SOD3 protects MSCs against the negative effects of serum deprivation via modulation of AMP-activated protein kinase/sirtulin 1, extracellular signal-regulated kinase activation, and promoted Forkhead box O3a trafficking to the nucleus. Taken together, these results demonstrate that SOD3 promotes MSCs survival and add further evidence to the concept that SOD3-MSCs may be a potential therapeutic agent with better outcomes than normal MSCs for various diseases involving oxidative stress and compromised MSCs survival during therapy.

노인들의 보행 능력과 신체적인 특성 간의 상관관계: 단면 연구 (The Relationship between Physical Characteristics and Walking Ability in Elderly: A Cross-Sectional Study)

  • 본 연구는 노인들의 신체적 특성이 보행 속도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여 시행되었다. 연구대상자는 보조도구의 사용에 관계없이 독립보행이 가능한 노인 77명(남 38명, 여자 39명)을 대상으로 하였다. 상관분석과 단계적 다중 선형 회귀분석을 사용하여 신체적 특성(연령, 성별, 신장, 체중, 신체질량지수, 근육량, 허리/엉덩이둘레비, 심박수, 폐활량, 유연성, 최대산소섭취량, 눈감고 한발 서기)과 하지 근력(슬관절 신전근, 슬관절 굴곡근)이 보행 속도와 어떠한 관련성이 있는지 분석하였다. 보행 속도는 연령, 신장, 폐활량, 눈감고 한발 서기 시간, 슬관절 굴곡근 및 신전근의 근력과 상관관계가 있었다. 또한 슬관절 굴곡근에 의해 보행 속도는 27%로 설명력을 가지고 있었으며, 슬관절 신전근 변수가 추가되었을 때 설명력은 32%로 높아졌다. 이러한 결과는 노인의 보행 속도가 하지의 근력과 다양한 신체적 특성에 영향을 받는다는 것을 의미한다.

유방암 환자의 방사선 치료 기간 동안 재활치료 프로그램이 삶의 질, 심폐기능, 피로에 미치는 영향 (Effects of a Rehabilitation Program on Quality of Life, Cardiopulmonary Function and Fatigue During Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer Patients)

  • This study examines the effects of a rehabilitation program on quality of life (QOL), cardiopulmonary function and fatigue during radiotherapy for breast cancer patients. The program includes aerobic exercise, stretching and strengthening exercises. Sixty-five women participated in this study and they were asked to perform supervised exercises that last for 60 minutes five times a week for six weeks. The European organization for research and treatment of cancer-cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the breast (EORTC QLQ-BR23), predicted maximal volume of oxygen consumption ($VO_{2max}$) and fatigue severity scale (FSS) were assessed before and after the rehabilitation program. The 60-minute program consisted of a 10-minute warm-up, 30-minute of aerobic exercises, and 15-minute of strengthening exercises, followed by a five-minute cool-down. Heart rates were monitored throughout the exercise class to ensure that patients were exercising at the target heart rate of 40~75% of the age-adjusted heart rate maximum. There were statistically significant differences in the changes of physical function and cancer related symptoms in the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR23 (p<.05). There was a statistically significant improvement in the predicted $VO_{2max}$ (p<.05), although there were no significant differences in the FSS (p>.05). The results of our study suggest that a supervised rehabilitation program may benefit the physical aspects and QOL of patients receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer.

The Effects of Air Stacking Exercise on Pulmonary Function in Elderly Adults

  • PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of air stacking exercise on lung capacity, activities of daily living, and walking ability in elderly adults. METHODS: A total of 27 subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG=13) or a control group (CG=14). Subjects in the experimental group participated in an active pulmonary rehabilitation program. 5 days a week for 4 weeks. The active pulmonary rehabilitation program was composed of an air stacking exercise with an oral nasal mask and manually assisted coughing. Conventional pulmonary rehabilitation exercises, such as, cough exercise, deep breathing, and abdominal muscle strengthening exercises were performed by both groups. Pulmonary function parameters, peak cough flow (PCF), and oxygen saturation were measured and the 6-minute walk test and Korean version of the modified Barthel index (K-MBI) scores were applied. RESULTS: Significant intergroup differences were observed for forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) results after intervention (p<.05), and for 6 minute walk test and PCF results after intervention and at 2-week follow-up visits (p<.05). Post hoc test results showed significant differences in K-MBI, 6-minute walk test, and FEV1 in the experimental group after intervention (p<.05). FVC values were significantly higher after intervention and at 2-week follow-up visits versus pre-intervention (p<.05). PCF values were also significantly higher after intervention and remained significantly higher at 2-week follow-up visits (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Air stacking exercise in elderly adults improves lung capacity and exercise tolerance.
