  • Ozone is widely used to sterilize food and tap water because ozone is a strong oxidizer. Efficient ozone generation is the most important issue in the field of ozone application. A variable discharge type of ozonizer that generates diffuse glow discharge in air at atmospheric pressure was used for the efficient ozone generation.

  • Drop size is one of the most important parameters which are control the performance of the engine using liquid fuel/oxidizer and drop formation is mainly controlled by aerodynamic force caused by ambient gas. Because of this, empirical data and correlation acquired under standard ambient condition are not valid. So experiments under high ambient pressure condition to measure the drop size using image processing method And find the empirical correlation between SMD and chamber pressure(density), injection velocity.

  • To predict combustion instability in actual full-scale combustion chamber of rocket engines, air-injection test is proposed with scaling techniques. From the data, damping factors have been obtained as a function of hydraulic parameter and the data give us instability map. Two instability regions are presented and it is found that they coincide reasonably with them from hot-fire test with full-scale flow rates. Accordingly, the proposed approach can be applied cost-effectively to stability rating of jet injectors when mixing of fuel and oxidizer jets is the dominant process in instability triggering.

  • Composite propellant combustion is studied experimentally with systematic variation of particle sizes and mix ratios of coarse and fine APs. Considering the different modes of oxidizer-fuel flames in heterogeneous systems, the complex flame model is described to identify what combustion mechanisms are important under what conditions. The effects of AP particle size, ratio of coarse to fine AP, and pressure on burning rates are discussed in terms of qualitative theory of flame microstructure.

  • Turbopump test for a 30-ton-thrust liquid rocket engine was carried out using real-propellant. Liquid oxygen, kerosene, cold hydrogen gas were used for the oxidizer pump, the fuel pump, and the turbine, respectively. The turbopump was reliably operated at the design and off-design conditions and the performance requirements were satisfied, which implies that the turbopump development at the engine subsystem level is successfully accomplished in the point of performance validation. This paper presents the results of a test where the turbopump was run for 75 seconds at three operating modes. In terms of performance characteristics of pumps and turbine, the results of turbopump assembly test using real-propellant showed a good agreement with those of the turbopump component tests using simulant working fluid.

  • The turbo pump of a liquid rocket engine is composed of three main parts: the oxidizer pump, fuel pump, and turbine. Liquid oxygen ($LO_X$) is the working fluid in the cryogenic environment in the oxidizer pump, but tests are usually performed using liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$), which has a boiling point similar to that of $LO_X$ but is comparatively safer and easier to use for the test. In this study, a bearing test rig is developed and its performance is evaluated using a cryogenic ball bearing with $LN_2$ as the working fluid. Verifying the performance of the bearing test rig is crucial for ensuring correct working of the turbo pump unit in the liquid rocket engine. A stable test rig for the bearing in a cryogenic environment makes the bearing technology enhance its reliability. The test results show that the system operates stably and the requirement of performance time of 500 s is met. The test results of temperature, motor speed, and torque are discussed. The developed cryogenic bearing test rig is expected to help in widening knowledge and expanding research on ball bearings in the future.

  • In this study, the solution combustion method was employed to synthesize perovskite PZT ceramics. Multicomponent oxides can be prepared by the solution combustion synthesis using redox exothermic reaction of precursor solutions. The results of DTA/TG showed exothermic peaks in 214$^{\circ}C$ and 350$^{\circ}C$. Those were caused by the differences of the thermal decomposition behavior of oxidizer and fuel. The combustion reaction was completed at 370$^{\circ}C$ during heating procedure, but the product was not transformed into perovskite. The thermal decomposition behavior of both oxidizer and fuel were considered during solution combustion process at 600$^{\circ}C$, which showed tetragonal single phase PZT ceramics with 50 nm crystalline size. The lattice constant a was 3.997 ${\pm}$ 0.001 ${\AA}$ and the lattice constant c was 4.147${\pm}$0.001 ${\AA}$.

  • Experimental studies on determination of the supply leading time of propellants to combustion chamber have been made to stably and efficiently guarantee the ignitions process with liquid rocket engine. The propellant used is a Kerosene as fuel and a liquid oxygen as oxidizer. FOOF type of three injectors are set with an angle of 135。 and the combustion chamber pressure is 200psi. The present experiment program also includes the stability on the quadlet type of ignitor using the triehylaluminum (TEAL) as an ignition source. Experimental results clarifies that the propellant supply through LOx leading to combustion chamber is proper for stable ignition and combustion processes based on the fuel and oxidizer manifold pressures, combustion chamber pressure, and the variation of flame length from the nozzle exit with lapse time, and shows that the leading supply time pf propellants effects the engine performance little.

  • A numerical study for the turbulent reacting flow in an orimulsion gasifier has been carried out to analyze the characteristics of chemical reaction by orimulsion droplets. In this study, our interest has been focused on the effect of oxidizer to orimulsion ratio, which is one of the key parameters of gasification operation, as well as on the distribution of chemical species. In addition, we have conducted numerical calculations to understand the effect of droplet size, spray angle and injection velocity of fuel so as to acquire the basic information on the operating range of orimulsion gasifier. The result of numerical calculations showed that the gas composition of CO and H$_2$concentrations was the highest when the oxidizer to orimulsion ratio was about 0.88 and the reactivity of orimulsion increased as the droplet size reduced with proper spray angle. Also, we have carried out the analysis on the orimulsion gasification in the 100 ton/day-scale gasifier based upon the prior study in order to obtain the basic data for the proper operating condition using orimulsion feed.

  • The change in microbial flora has been studied through dwelling house composting by the composter with double layer walls. The results are summarized as followes. 1. Mesophilic bacteria increased and decreased mildly, thermophilic bacteria showed a tendency to decrease except for spring, and the number of mesophilic bacteria and thermophilic bacteria had a tendency to increase and decrease simultaneously. 2. The number of mesophilic actinomycetes were increased at the early stage of compositing in winter, mildly decreased in spring and slightly decreased in summer, and the number of thermophilic actinomycetes were decreased at the early stage of composting. 3. The decrease in the number of mesophilic fungi was observed at the middle stage in summer, but the mild increase was observed in spring and winter. The number of thermophilic fungi was generally decreased. 4. Ammonia oxidizer and nitrite oxidizer were observed in this field composting much more than in the other composting experiments.
