Flame Length Characteristics of $CH_4/O_2$ on Jet Diffusion Flame (제트 확산화염에서 $CH_4/O_2$의 화염길이 특성)

  • The Flame length of $CH_4$ with the Oxidizer of air and $O_2$ has been measured respectively for the nozzle diameter of 1.6mm, 2.7mm, 4.4mm and 7.7mm. In all $CH_4$ flame on oxidizer of air and $O_2$. the flame length was independent of the initial jet diameter, dependent only on the flowrate in laminar flame regime, and in turbulent flame dependent on the initial jet diameter. Using correlation equation of Delichatsios, the flame length has been expected exactly for $CH_4/air$ flame, but has been underestimated for $CH_4/O_2$ flame. This paper has proposed correlation equation of $CH_4/O_2$ flame.

  • Plasma techniques have been proposed to generate a hydrogen enrich gas to investigate a feasibility of plasma techniques on a fuel reforming, we considered a dry reforming and a partial oxidation with methane in the atmospheric pressure. For these experiments, we employed an arc jet plasma reactor. The effects of input power and oxidizer in each process were investigated by product analysis, including carbon monoxide, hydrogen, ethylene, propane, and acetylene as well as methane and carbon dioxide. In both processes, input electrical power activated the reactions significantly. The increased ratio of the carbon dioxide to methane in the dry reforming doesn't affect to a methane conversion, whereas increased ratio of oxidizer to methane in the partial oxidation was very effective for the reaction. Moreover, for a simultaneous treatment of methane and carbon dioxide, a feasibility of a dry reforming combined with partial oxidation also has been investigated.

The Effect of Partial Blockage of Flow Passage to Performance Change of a Liquid Rocket Engine (유로 단면 부분 폐쇄가 액체로켓엔진 성능 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The analysis has been performed on the blockage effect at the propellant flow passage in a liquid rocket engine. This simulates an example of emergency situation where flow passage is partially blocked. The analysis method has been validated by predicting the pump head and flow rate within 1% precision against the measured data of turbopump-gas generator coupled test. When the oxidizer passage is reduced it is predicted that the mixture ratio decreases, the oxidizer pump head increases and the gas generator pressure increases. When the fuel passage is reduced it is predicted that the mixture ratio increases, fuel flow rate decreases and the fuel pump head increases.

  • A turbopump for a 75 ton class liquid rocket engine was tested at full speed for 20 seconds using model fluid. Liquid nitrogen is used for the oxidizer pump, water for the fuel pump, and hot gas for the turbine. The non-cavitating head of pump from the turbopump assembly test showed a good agreement with that from the pump component test. The relative difference of turbine efficiency between the turbopump assembly test and the turbine component test was 0.3% only. Suction performance from the turbopump assembly test was higher than that of pump component test, which resulted from the thermodynamic effect of cavitation.

  • We investigated the effects of oxidizer additive on the performance of Cu-CMP process using commonly used tungsten slurry. According to the CMP removal rates and particle size distribution, and the micro-structures of surface layer as a function of oxidizer contents were greatly influenced by the slurry chemical composition of oxidizers. The difference in removal rate and roughness of copper surface are believed to cause by modification in the mechanical behavior of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ abrasive particles in CMP slurry.

  • Propagation characteristics of tribrachial flames have been studied numerically in a two-dimensional fuel/oxidizer mixing layer. A flame is initiated by imposing a high temperature ignition source. Subsequent propagation of a tribrachial flame is traced. The flow redirection effect at the leading edge of a tribrachial flame increases the propagation speed beyond the corresponding stoichiometric laminar burning velocity. The effect of mixture fraction gradient on the propagation speed of a tribrachial flame is analyzed in a mixing layer considering that mixture fraction gradient increases as a tribrachial flame propagates toward upstream. As the flame curvature at the leading edge increases with decreasing mixture fraction gradient, the flow redirection effect becomes more pronounced on the flame propagation speed. As a result, the propagation speed of a tribrachial flame increases with decreasing mixture fraction gradient.

  • Chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process has been widely used to planarize dielectric layers, which can be applied to the integrated circuits for sub-micron technology. Despite the increased use of CMP process, it is difficult to accomplish the global planarization of in the defect-free inter-level dielectrics(ILD). we investigated the performance of $WO_3$ CMP used silica slurry, ceria slurry, tungsten slurry In this paper, the effects of addition oxidizer on the $WO_3$ CMP characteristics were investigated to obtain the higher removal rate and lower non-uniformity.

  • In order to reduce the smoke emission from the in-service city bus, this study was evaluated the particulate reduction efficiency and regeneration ability of the catalitic trap oxidizer (CTO) on the city bus (D0846HM engine) equipped with it. Before the on-road CTO test, the laboratory test of CTO on engine test-bench was performed. Reduction efficiencies of smokes and particulates were 54 and 45%, and those of gaseous pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) were 90 and 60%. In order to evaluate the regeneration ability of the CTO by the catalytic oxidation of trapped particulate, field test was performed on the in-service road. The regeneration temperature was 350$^\circ$ which was same with the exhaust temperature of city bus.
