The purpose of this study was to determine effects of thermal oxidation according to heating time and temperature, using sunflower oil from seed grown in Korea. To investigate these effects, the lipid components, fatty acid compositions, and chemical characteristics of crude oil from sunflower seed were determined. The content of nonpolar and polar in total lipids was 94.1% and 5.9%, respectively. The fatty acid compositions in the total lipids showed 6.21% palmitic, 4.50% stearic, 59.84% oleci and 29.48% linoleic acid. The concent of linoleic acid decreased during heating. However, the concent of oleic, palmitic and stearic acid increased during heating. The components of neutral lipid were found 6 fractions, including triglyceride, diglyceride and free fatty acid. The content of triglyceride decreased but diglyceride and monoglyceride increased during heating. The content of free fatty acid increased during the continuous heating period for 32 hours at $100^{\circ}C$, whereas decreased in 16 hours at $180^{\circ}C$. Iodine value decreased during heating, and peroxide value increased during the continuous heating period for 32 hours at $100^{\circ}C$, whereas decreased in 16 hours at $180^{\circ}C$.
Pt catalyst on carbon black was prepared by colloidal method, ion exchanging method and methanol reducing method. The colloidal method has been used generally. At ion exchanging method, $H^+$ of functional group on carbon surface made by oxidation treatment was exchanged with Pt ion. At methanol reducing method, Pt was impregnated on carbon to reduce by methanol contained with surfactants. With TEM and XRD, Pt particle size impregnated on carbon by various methods was $30{\sim}50{\AA}$. Loading yield was about 100%, loading yield of ion exchanging method was 99.92% by DCP analysis and 99.87% by combustion method. Within 60 hour, current density of oxygen reduction was $460mA/cm^2$ at 0.7V(vs. RHE) at colloidal method. It was the better performance than catalyst prepared by ion exchanging, methanol reducing method. But, it was shown some decrease of performance for long operation time(after 100hour), catalyst prepared by methanol reducing method was shown stable performance.
A new approach for the fabrication of organic-organic conducting composite thin films using simultaneous co-vaporization vapor phase polymerization (SC-VPP) of two or more monomers that have different polymerization mechanisms (i.e., oxidation-coupling polymerization and radical polymerization) was reported for the first time. In this study, a PEDOT-PSMA composite thin film consisting of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT) and poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)(PSMA) was prepared by SC-VPP process. The preparation of organic-organic conductive composite thin films was confirmed through FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ analyses. The surface morphology analysis showed that the surface of PEDOT-PSMA thin film was rougher than that of PEDOT thin film. Therefore, PEDOT-PSMA exhibited lower electrical conductivity than that of PEDOT. But the conductivity can be improved by adding 2-ethyl-4-methyl imidazole as a weak base. The contact angle of PEDOT-PSMA was about $50^{\circ}$, as compared to $62^{\circ}$ for PEDOT. The demonstrated methodology for preparing an organic-organic conductive hybrid thin film is expected to be useful for adjusting intrinsic conductive polymer (ICP)'s surface properties such as mechanical, optical, and roughness properties.
This paper experimentally investigates the effects of oxygen-enriched air (OEA) on the running behaviors of an LPG SI engine during both start/warm-up (SW) and hot idling (HI) stages. The experiments were performed on an air-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, LPG SI engine with an electronic fuel injection system and an electrically-heated oxygen sensor. OEA containing 23% and 25% oxygen (by volume) was supplied for the experiments. The throttle position was fixed at that of idle condition. A fueling strategy was used as following: the fuel injection pulse width (FIPW) in the first cycle of injection was set 5.05 ms, and 2.6 ms in the subsequent cycles till the achieving of closed-loop control. In closed-loop mode, the FIPW was adjusted by the ECU in terms of the oxygen sensor feedback. Instantaneous engine speed, cylinder pressure, engine-out time-resolved HC, CO and NOx emissions and excess air coefficient (EAC) were measured and compared to the intake air baseline (ambient air, 21% oxygen). The results show that during SW stage, with the increase in the oxygen concentration in the intake air, the EAC of the mixture is much closer to the stoichiometric one and more oxygen is made available for oxidation, which results in evidently-improved combustion. The ignition in the first firing cycle starts earlier and peak pressure and maximum heat release rate both notably increase. The maximum engine speed is elevated and HC and CO emissions are reduced considerably. The percent reductions in HC emissions are about 48% and 68% in CO emissions about 52% and 78%; with 23% and 25% OEA, respectively, compared to ambient air. During HI stage, with OEA, the fuel amount per cycle increases due to closed-loop control, the engine speed rises, and speed stability is improved. The HC emissions notably decrease: about 60% and 80% with 23% and 25% OEA, respectively, compared to ambient air. The CO emissions remain at the same low level as with ambient air. During both SW and HI stages, intake air oxygen enrichment causes the delay of spark timing and the increased NOx emissions.

One of the effective ways to reduce both $NO_x$ and PM at the same time in a diesel CI engine is to operate the engine in low temperature combustion (LTC) regimes. In general, two strategies are used to realize the LTC operation-dilution controlled LTC and late injection LTC - and in this study, the former approach was used. In the dilution controlled regime, LTC is achieved by supplying a large amount of EGR to the cylinder. The significant EGR gas increases the heat capacity of in-cylinder charge mixture while decreasing oxygen concentration of the charge, activating low temperature oxidation reaction and lowering PM and $NO_x$ emissions. However, use of high EGR levels also deteriorates combustion efficiency and engine power output. Therefore, it is widely considered to use increased intake pressure as a way to resolve this issue. In this study, the effects of intake pressure variations on performance and emission characteristics of a single cylinder diesel engine operated in LTC regimes were examined. LTC operation was achieved in less than 8% $O_2$ concentration and thus a simultaneous reduction of both PM and $NO_x$ emission was confirmed. As intake pressure increased, combustion efficiency was improved so that THC and CO emissions were decreased. A shift of the peak Soot location was also observed to lower $O_2$ concentration while $NO_x$ levels were kept nearly zero. In addition, an elevation of intake pressure enhanced engine power output as well as indicated thermal efficiency in LTC regimes. All these results suggested that LTC operation range can be extended and emissions can be further reduced by adjusting intake pressure.
In the present study, the proxidant effect of ferrous and cupric chlorides which added to soybean oil and its fried noodle in the same concentration of the city water and the physically refined underground water were determined. As the inhibitor of metal proxidation, BHA and citric acid which are used widely in oil industry as antioxidants were compared. In both cases of soybean oil and its fried noodle, the addition of cupric chloride and ferrous chloride showed prominent proxidant effect. Especially, cupric chloride marked more proxidant effect than ferrous chloride by 3 to 6 times with the elapse of time. In the inhibition activity of metal proxidation, citric acid was more effective than BHA. The 1ppm of Cu +0.01% of citric acid treated soybean oil showed less proxidant effect than the control at the later stage. The inhibition activity of citric acid on $Fe^{++}$ in soybean oil was more effective than $Cu^{++}$ in soybean oil.

Commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V alloys have been widely used for biomedical applications. However, the use of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in biomaterial is then a subject of controversy because aluminum ions and vanadium oxide have potential detrimental influence on the human body due to vanadium and aluminum. Hence, recent works showed that the synthesis of new Ti-based alloys for implant application involves more biocompatible metallic alloying element, such as, Nb, Hf, Zr and Mo. In particular, Nb and Hf are one of the most effective Ti ${\beta}-stabilizer$ and reducing the elastic modulus. Plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) is known as excellent method in the biocompatibility of biomaterial due to quickly coating time and controlled coating condition. The anodized oxide layer and diameter modulation of Ti alloys can be obtained function of improvement of cell adhesion. Manganese(Mn) plays very important roles in essential for normal growth and metabolism of skeletal tissue in vertebrates and can be detected as minor constituents in teeth and bone. Radio frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering in the various PVD methods has high deposition rates, high-purity films, extremely high adhesion of films, and excellent uniform layers for depositing a wide range of materials, including metals, alloys and ceramics like a hydroxyapatite. The aim of this study is to research the Mn coatings on the micro-pore formed Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys by RF-magnetron sputtering for dental applications. Ti-29Nb-xHf (x= 0, 3, 7 and 15wt%, mass fraction) alloys were prepared Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys of containing Hf up from 0 wt% to 15 wt% were melted by using a vacuum furnace. Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were homogenized for 2 hr at $1050^{\circ}C$. Each alloy was anodized in solution containing typically 0.15 M calcium acetate monohydrate + 0.02 M calcium glycerophosphate at room temperature. A direct current power source was used for the process of anodization. Anodized alloys was prepared using 270V~300V anodization voltage at room. Mn coatings was produced by RF-magnetron sputtering system. RF power of 100W was applied to the target for 1h at room temperature. The microstructure, phase and composition of Mn coated oxide surface of Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were examined by FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts on pH, meat color, TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substance), and VBN (volatile basic nitrogen). Two hundred broiler chickens were fed diets for five weeks containing 1% mulberry leaves extracts (T1), 2% mulberry leaves extracts (T2), 1% dandelion extracts (T3), and 2% dandelion extracts (T4). At the end of five weeks feeding experiment, broilers were slaughtered, and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for five weeks. As storage time increased, the presence of mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts resulted in decreased pH, and $L^*$ and increased TBARS, VBN, and $a^*$ value in all treatment groups (P<0.05). The pH value, TBARS, and VBN were significantly decreased by the supplementation of mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts relative to the control (P<0.05). Therefore, mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts had the possibility to improve shelf life of chicken meat. Especially, T4 was significantly more effective in delay lipid oxidation compared to the control group. However, no significantly difference was found in pH, TBARS, and VBN among mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts treatment groups. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that compared to control group, supplementation of mulberry leaves and dandelion extracts were effective in decreasing pH, TBARS, and VBN and increasing $a^*$ value.
In this study, an accelerated carbonation process was applied to stabilize hazardous heavy metals of industrial solid waste incineration (ISWI) bottom ash and fly ash, and to reduce $CO_2$ emissions. The most commonly used method to stabilize heavy metals is accelerated carbonation using a high water-to-solid ratio including oxidation and carbonation reactions as well as neutralization of the pH, dissolution, and precipitation and sorption. This process has been recognized as having a significant effect on the leaching of heavy metals in alkaline materials such as ISWI ash. The accelerated carbonation process with $CO_2$ absorption was investigated to confirm the leaching behavior of heavy metals contained in ISWI ash including fly and bottom ash. Only the temperature of the chamber at atmospheric pressure was varied and the $CO_2$ concentration was kept constant at 99% while the water-to-solid ratio (L/S) was set at 0.3 and $3.0dm^3/kg$. In the result, the concentration of leached heavy metals and pH value decreased with increasing carbonation reaction time whereas the bottom ash showed no effect. The mechanism of heavy metal-stabilization is supported by two findings during the carbonation reaction. First, the carbonation reaction is sufficient to decrease the pH and to form an insoluble heavy metal-material that contributes to a reduction of the leaching. Second, the adsorbent compound in the bottom ash controls the leaching of heavy metals; the calcite formed by the carbonation reaction has high affinity of heavy metals. In addition, approximately 5 kg/ton and 27 kg/ton $CO_2$ were sequestrated in ISWI bottom ash and fly ash after the carbonation reaction, respectively.
Perilla (frutescens) seed oil, which is widely used as a source of vegetable oil in Korea, contains a strikingly large amount (58.4% of total fatty acids) of polyunsaturated linolenic acid (18 : 3) which is one of the essential fatty acids. Our hypothesis was that vitamin E contained in this oil would not be enough to prevent peroxidation of this polyunsaturated oil. A comparative study was carried out using rats and chicks devided into seven groups with various diet combinations emphasizing fat sources for the period of four weeks. The level of fat in each diet was 15% and animals were fed ad libitum. Various diet combinations were as follows; perilla seed oil and sesame seed oil with and without vitamin E supplementation, tallow as a saturated fat source and perilla seed hull group (10% at the expense of carbohydrate). The fat constituents of control group were consisted of 50% vegetable oil and 50% animal fat. A few important findings are as follows: 1. Rats fed perilla seed oil lost their hair focally around the neck and suffered from a bad skin lesion at the same place. In chicks, yellow pigmentation both of feather and of skin was clearly observed only in groups fed perilla seed oil with or without vitamin E supplementation. The basis of biochemical mechanisms of this phenomena remains as an important research interest. 2. The mean value for hematocrit was significantly lower for the chicks fed perilla seed oil than for those fed control diet. This result seems to be attributable to the effect on the red cell membrane known as peroxidation-hemolysis of vitamin E deficiency. 3. The serum cholesterol level was higher for the rats fed perilla seed oil than for those fed control diet, whereas in chicks the group fed perilla seed oil showed lower value than the control group indicating that different animal species could vary in their responses to the same diet. 4. In pathological examinations, the sign of hepatic fibrosis was seen in the perilla seed hull group and it was noticeable that the level of hepatic RNA was significantly increased in the rat recovering from vitamin E deficiency. It is hoped that more detailed studies on perilla seed oil and hulls will soon be carried out in many aspects especially i) at various levels of fat in the diet, ii) in relation to dietary selenium level and iii) to find an optimum level of dietary essential fatty acids in terms of P/S ratio using various animal species. In the mean time, the public should be informed to preserve this particular oil with care to minimize fatty acid oxidation and should be discouraged from overconsuming this oil.
