역학적-경험적 덧씌우기 포장 설계 프로그램 개발 (Development of Mechanistic-Empirical Overlay Pavement Design Program)

  • PURPOSES : Recently, the mechanistic-empirical overlay pavement design program that is linked with Korea Pavement Research Program (KPRP) has been developed. This paper focused on establishing the framework and developing the program for the asphalt overlay design over the existing asphalt concrete pavement. METHODS : The overlay pavement design program developed in this study was investigated to assess the sensitivity to various pavement conditions, such as the damage level and thickness of existing layers. In addition, the actual overlay design on currently performing pavement was carried out as a practical example. RESULTS : From the sensitivity analysis, it was found that the thickness and damage level of existing asphalt layer mostly affect the overlay design results. In addition, under the same condition, the overlay pavement would better perform in cold region. From the overlay design with the actual condition, it is noted that the overlay thickness varies depending on the given condition. CONCLUSIONS : Based on various evaluations, it was concluded that the overlay design program developed in this study is a reliable and reasonable tool to be used in the actual pavement design.

서울형 포장설계식 개선 및 검증 (Improvement and Validation of an Overlay Design Equation in Seoul)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to develop a simple regression model in designing the asphalt concrete (AC) overlay thickness using the Mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG) program. METHODS : To establish the AC overlay design equation, multiple regression analyses were performed based on the synthetic database for AC thickness design, which was generated using the MEPDG program. The climate in Seoul city, a modified Hirsh model for determining dynamic modulus of asphalt material, and a new damaged master curve approach were used in this study. Meanwhile, the proposed rutting model developed in Seoul city was then used to calibrate the rutting model in the MEPDG program. The AC overlay design equation is a function of the total AC thickness, the ratio of AC overlay thickness and existing AC thickness, the ratio of existing AC modulus and AC overlay modulus, the subgrade condition, and the annual average daily truck traffic (AADTT). RESULTS : The regression model was verified by comparing the predicted AC thickness, the AADTT from the model and the MEPDG. The regression model shows a correlation coefficient of 0.98 in determining the AC thickness and 0.97 in determining AADTT. In addition, the data in Seoul city was used to validate the regression model. The result shows that correlation coefficient between the predicted and measured AADTT is 0.64. This indicates that the current model is more accuracy than the previous study which showed a correlation coefficient of 0.427. CONCLUSIONS:The high correlation coefficient values indicate that the regression equations can predict the AC thickness accurately.

AASHTO86 접착식 콘크리트 덧씌우기 설계법의 타당성 연구 (Feasibility Study of AASHTO86 Design Method for Bonded Concrete Overlay)

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of AASHTO86 design method for Bonded Concrete Overlay. METHODS : The Feasibility of AASHTO86 design method for Bonded Concrete Overlay is investigated based on the following study : i) Sensitivity analysis of designed service life of Bonded Concrete Overlay by major design input for AASHTO86 guide. ii) Comparison of actual Bonded Concrete Overlay life and predicted Bonded Concrete Overlay life by AASHTO86. iii) Finding the stress component influence the potential distress of Bonded Concrete Overlay based on 3-d FEM analysis. iv) Exploring the limitation of AASHTO86 in the aspect of design input. RESULTS : Sensitivity analysis showed that the condition of existing pavement significantly on the Bonded Concrete Overlay life. Also the overlay thickness affect the Bonded Concrete Overlay life. The comparison of actual Bonded Concrete Overlay life and predicted Bonded Concrete Overlay life showed relatively good agreement when the early distress sections are excluded in comparison. Bonding stress occurred at the interface may be larger than the bond strength used in the specification of Bonded Concrete Overlay construction. CONCLUSIONS : Bonded Concrete Overlay life predicted by the AASHTO86 may not be reliable. Number of points to improve the reliability in the design of Bonded Concrete Overlay are suggested in this study.

Performance of Constructed Facilities: Pavement Structural Evaluation of William P Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas

  • 본 논문에서는 텍사스 휴스턴에 소재하는 William P Hobby공항의 아스팔트 덧씌우기 포장두께를 설계하기위한 재료 특성화와 구조평가 연구결과에 관한 최근의 사례결과를 나타내고 있다. Hobby 공항의 12R-30L 활주로는 포틀랜드시멘트 콘크리트 포장위에 두꺼운 아스팔트 덧씌우기 층으로 구성되어 있으며 최근 부분적인 표면 밀림 현상이 관측되었다. 아스팔트 혼합물 현장코아 시료를 사용하여 표면 밀림현상 원인을 분석하기 위하여 공기량, 아스팔트 함량 및 골재 입도 분석이 수행되었다. 미연방 항공우주국의 탄성층 해석 프로그램인 LEDFAA가 새로운 아스팔트 덧씌우기층의 포장구조 상태를 평가하기 위하여 사용되었다. 이를 위하여 두 가지의 포장구성 상태가 존재한다고 가정하였다. 즉 PCC 포장위에 아스팔트 콘크리트 덧씌우기층, 그리고 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장. 실험실 시험결과를 근거로 아스팔트 바인더 함유량에 대한 200번째 체 통과 골재비는 $1.1{\sim}2.2$이며 비율이 높을수록 혼합물은 연성을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 12R-30L 활주로의 표면밀림 현상은 과도한 세립골재 함유율로 인한 연성혼합물이 원인인 것으로 나타났다. 구조 평가결과에 의하면 아스팔트 포장으로 포장구조를 가정한 해석 결과는 PCC층에 비하여 좀 더 두꺼운 아스팔트 층일때 더 실질적인 구조적 수명을 나타내었다. 아스팔트층 하부의 PCC포장은 고급기층재료 역할을 수행하기 때문인 것으로 해석된다.

  • 경제성장 및 물류증가로 인하여 장대교량에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 장지간을 가진 교량 건설을 위해서는 자중 감소가 필수적이며, 이를 위한 노력의 일환으로 초박층 포장재에 대한 연구 및 개발이 진행되고 있다. 국내 설계기준을 살펴보면, 이전 도로교설계기준(2010)에서는 포장이 가지는 강성을 강바닥판에 고려하지 않아 보수적인 설계가 이루어져 왔으나, 최근 개정된 설계기준인 도로교설계기준(2012, 한계상태설계법)에서는 일정한 조건 하 포장이 가지는 강성을 강바닥판에 반영하는 것을 허용하고 있다. 하지만 초박층 교면포장이 강바닥판에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이며, 진행된 연구 또한 거동 특성 및 피로응력에 대한 연구로 한정되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 포장강성의 반영/미반영, 교면 포장재료, 포장 두께 및 강바닥판 두께를 매개변수로 하여 이에 따른 강바닥판의 처짐과 전단응력의 변화 및 추세를 알아보고 또한 이를 바탕으로 강바닥판에 초박층 교면포장 강성 적용의 효율성을 알아보았다.

도심지 아스팔트 포장의 유지보수공법 의사결정 절차 개선 (Improvement of a Decision Tree for The Rehabilitation of Asphalt Pavement in City Road)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to develop a pavement rehabilitation decision tree considering current pavement condition by evaluating severity and distress types such as roughness, cracking and rutting. METHODS : To improve the proposed overall rehabilitation decision tree, current decision tree from Korea and decision trees from other countries were summarized and investigated. The problem when applying the current rehabilitation method obtained from the decision tree applied in Seoul was further analyzed. It was found that the current decision trees do not consider different distress characteristics such as crack type, road types and functions. Because of this, different distress values for IRI, crack rate and plastic deformation was added to the proposed decision tree to properly recommend appropriate pavement rehabilitation. Utilizing the 2017 Seoul pavement management system data and considering all factors as discussed, the proposed overall decision tree was revised and improved. RESULTS :In this study, the type of crack was included to the decision tree. Meanwhile current design thickness and special asphalt mixture were studied and improved to be applied on different pavement condition. In addition, the improved decision tree was incorporated with the Seoul asphalt overlay design program. In the case of Seoul's rehabilitation budget, rehabilitation budget can be optimized if a 25mm milling and overlay thickness is used. CONCLUSIONS:A practical and theoretical evaluation tool in pavement rehabilitation design was presented and proposed for Seoul City.

노후 줄눈 콘크리트 포장 보수를 위한 얇은 연속 철근 콘크리트 덧씌우기 포장의 초기거동 평가 (Early Age Behavior of Thin Bonded Continuously Reinforced Concrete Overlay on Aged Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement)

  • 본 연구에서는 노후 콘크리트 포장의 효율적 유지보수를 위하여 국내 최초 적용된 Thin Bonded Continuously Reinforced Concrete Overlay (CRCO) 공법의 초기 공용성이 평가되었다. 서해안 고속도로의 표층 파손 구간에 Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP) 덧씌우기와 CR8O 공법을 이용한 보수가 진행되었다. JPCP 덧씌우기 공법이 적용된 구간에서는 인접 슬래브가 완전히 분리되도록 덧씌워진 층의 줄눈을 완전히 커팅하였으며, CRCO 공법이 적용된 구간에서는 0.5% 종방향 철근과 위치 고정용 횡방향 철근을 설치한 후 그 위에 덧씌우기를 수행하였다. 두 구간 모두에서 3종시멘트가 이용되었다. 현장 강도 시험 결과, 1$\sim$3일 내에 교통개방이 가능한강도가 발현된 것이 확인되었으며, vibrating wire gauge (VWG) 데이터 분석 결과 CRCO 공법이 기존 포장의 줄눈 거동을 억제하는 것으로 나타났다. 부착강도 시험결과, 재령에 상관없이 높은 부착강도가 확인되었다. 한편 JPCP 덧씌우기 공법이 적용된 구간에서는 중앙부에서, CRCO 공법이 적용된 구간에서는 CRCO 포장과 같은 무작위 횡방향 균열이 관찰되었으며, CRCO 공법의 균열폭 거동이 JCP 보다 50% 정도 낮은 것으로 나타났다.

  • The present work is described the design factors and separation mechanism of ridge-cut explosive bolt in order to optimize the stage separation characteristics. Characteristics of test samples would differ depend on the detonating devices, the shape and size of bolt body, the amount of loading explosives, and the confinment conditions of bolt. Based on the results from these experimental factors, it appears to optimal condition of ridge-cut explosive that the amount of loading explosive seems to be near 110mg of RDX, the height of loading explosive is 3.5mm, the thickness of bolt is 3.9mm, and the degree of ridge is approximately $120^{\circ}$

Seizure Failure of Engine Crankshaft Bearings

  • The application of reciprocating engine crankshaft bearings is of particular importance and interest among the plain bearing, not only because the sheer volume of intemal combustion engines now produced, but because the severe operating conditions they are subjected to. Demands for better performances of crankshaft bearings have provide an important impetus in the development of bearings and bearing materials. As engine design progresses toward higher outpt and higher efficiency, crankshaft bearings must perform under more seveve operating conditions. Higher load, temperature, and speed as well as lower viscosity oil are applied to the bearing sysem, resulting in a smaller minimum oil film thickness. This means more solid-solid contact between the shaft and bearing, and the bearing is exposed to more danger of seizure. Some engines may experience bearing seizure problems. However, understanding about the seizure behavior and mechanism is far from being enough. Seizure resistance of a bearing-shaft system will be affected by the properties of the shaft and bearing, especially their materials and surface texture. Commonly used engine bearing materials include Al-Pb-Si, Al-Sn-Si, Al-Sn, and Cu-Pb with Pb-Sn-Cu overlay. These materials have very different properties. They showed different behaviors dering seizure tests and seizure may occur with different mechanism for different bearing material. Shaft materials also affect the seizure resistance of the system. Surface texture of the bearing and shaft have apparent effects on the lubrication and solid-solid contact pattern, and therefore will affect the seizure behavior of the system. Bearings and shafts which are made of different materials and have different surface textures have been tested and analyzed. Their effects on seizure resistance are discussed and possible seizure mechanisms for different beatings are presented in this paper.

  • 본 논문은 금속박막과 결합된 측면 연마 단일 모드 광섬유를 이용한 편광기에 관하여 이론 및 실험 연구 결과를 보고한다. 금속 박막의 두께와 상부 유전체의 굴절률이 소자특성에 미치는 영향을 직교 모드이론으로 분석하였다. 이론적 예측을 토대로 광통신파장에서 편광 소멸비가 40 ㏈, 그리고 삽입 손실이 0.5 ㏈를 가지는 편광기를 구현하였다.
