  • OWT is a tool for block transform coding with wavelet basis functions that overlap adjacent blocks. The OWT can reduce the block effect. In this paper performances of OWT are evaluated for AR model. Some simulation results show that performances are nearly same to DCT, but block effect is reduced to very low level.

  • In this paper, production system is implemented with the inferential neural network model using semantic network and directed graph. Production system can be implemented with the transform of knowledge representation in production system into semantic network and of semantic network into directed graph, because directed graphs can be expressed by neural matrices. A concept node should be defined by the state vector to calculated the concepts expressed by matrices. The expressional ability of neunal network depends on how the state vector is defined. In this study, state vector is overlapped and each overlapping part acts as a inheritant of concept.

  • Combined with the indeterminate boundaries of spatial objects, n:m correspondences makes an object-based matching be a complex problem. In this study, we model the boundary of a polygon object with fuzzy model and describe their overlapping relations as a weighted bipartite graph. Then corresponding pairs including 1:0, 1:1, 1:n and n:m relations are identified using a spectral singular value decomposition.

  • This stady was carried out to define Gifted student for science, model for selection, the tools and methods and related theory for the selection of the Gifted students for the science in primary school level. Also the developed tools and materials are applied to student and analysed the results to generalize the methods for the selection of Gifted students for science. The definition of Gifted students for science was carried out by the three-ring conception model by Renzulli(1982) and Lee long-Sung which defined the characteristics as three parts such as above average ability, creativity and tesk comitment. The Gifted students for science upper 2 percent which have three characteristics at the same times, namely overlapping three characteristics. The model for the selection of Gifted students consist of four step; such as screeing, selection, differentiation, judgement. The materials for the selection are input at each stage, analysed the results and standard for the selection are made. In the first stage screening, 202 students are selected from the 5060 of 4th and 5th graders according to their achievment, intellecture ability and observation of students activity. In second selection and third differentiation stage, 65 students are seletted according to their achievement In this study it is approved that the Gifted students in science have to be selection by various test such as achievement, intellectual ability, aptitude in science, inquiry activity, manual skill etc, rather rather then simple test such as achievement and intellecture ability. Also it is important to select upper 2 percent who have general abilites overlapping three characteristics mentioned in definition of Gifted students in science and selections model

  • Unexpected postoperative changes, such as growth in rib hump, has been occasionally reported after corrective surgery for scoliosis. However there has been experimental data for explanation of these changes, nor the suggestion of optimal correction method. This numerical study was designed to investigate the main correlating elements in operative kinematics with post-operative changes of vertebral rotation and rib cage deformation in the corrective surgery of scoliosis. To develop a scoliotic spine model automatically, a special program for converting normal spine model to scoliotic spine model was developed. A mathematical finite element model of normal spine including rib cage, sternum, both clavicles, and pelvis was developed with anatomical details. The skeletal deformity of scoliosis was reconstructed, by mapping the X-ray images of a scoliosis into this three dimensional normal spine and rib cage model. The geometric mapping was performed by translating and rotating the spinal colume with the amount analyzed from the digitized 12 built-in coordinate axes in each vertebral image. By utilizing this program, problems generated in mapping procedure such as facet joint overlapping, vertebral body deformity could be automatically resolved.

  • In this paper, a new evolutionary scheme to design a TSK fuzzy model from relevant data is proposed. The identification of the antecedent rule parameters is performed via the evolutionary algorithm with the unique fitness function and the various evolutionary operators, while the identification of the consequent parameters is done using the least square method. The occurrence of the multiple overlapping membership functions, which is a typical feature of unconstrained optimization, is resolved with the help of the proposed fitness function. The proposed algorithm can generate a fuzzy model with transparent membership functions. Through simulations on various problems, the proposed algorithm found a TSK fuzzy model with better accuracy than those found in previous works with transparent partition of input space.

  • Multiple strips are required for large area mapping using ALS (Airborne Laser Scanner) system. LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data collected from the ALS system has discrepancies between strips due to systematic errors of on-board laser scanner and GPS/INS, inaccurate processing of the system calibration as well as boresight misalignments. Such discrepancies deteriorate the overall geometric quality of the end products such as DEM (Digital Elevation Model), building models, and digital maps. Therefore, strip adjustment for minimizing discrepancies between overlapping strips is one of the most essential tasks to create seamless point cloud data. This study implemented area-based matching (ABM) to determine conjugate features for computing 3D transformation parameters. ABM is a well-known method and easily implemented for this purpose. It is obvious that the exact same LiDAR points do not exist in the overlapping strips. Therefore, the term "conjugate point" means that the location of occurring maximum similarity within the overlapping strips. Coordinates of the conjugate locations were determined with sub-pixel accuracy. The major drawbacks of the ABM are sensitive to scale change and rotation. However, there is almost no scale change and the rotation angles are quite small between adjacent strips to apply AMB. Experimental results from this study using both simulated and real datasets demonstrate validity of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper utilizes a life-cycle overlapping-generations model to quantify the welfare effects of plans to postpone the depletion of the National Pension Fund. In order for the model to incorporate the rapidly changing demographic structure of Korea fully, we build and calibrate a model in transition directly. The model is considered suitable for analyzing the effects of demographic changes on the Korean economy and the effects of plans to change the National Pension System. According to a simulation of the model, to postpone the depletion of the National Pension Fund for 30 years, the premium rate must be increased to 18.3% from the current rate of 9%. By postponing the depletion of the fund reserve, young and future generations gain significantly at the expense of the older generations. The simulation results should be, however, interpreted as meaning that the current system is unjustifiably partial to the older generations. Moreover, given the current premium rate, it is desirable to strengthen the income-redistribution function of the National Pension System.
