PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to verify the effect of fiber grid reinforcement on the long-term performance of asphalt pavement overlaid on old concrete pavement by performing field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis. METHODS : The reflection cracking, roughness, and rutting of fiber grid reinforced overlay sections and ordinary overlay sections were compared. Cores were obtained from both the fiber grid reinforced and ordinary sections to measure bonding shear strength between the asphalt intermediate and asphalt overlay layers. Fracture energy, displacement after yield, shear stiffnesses of the cores were also obtained by analyzing the test results. Finite element analysis was performed using the test results to validate the effect of the fiber grid reinforcement on long-term performance of asphalt pavement overlaid on the old concrete pavement. The fatigue cracking and reflection-cracking were predicted for three cases: 1) fiber grid was not used; 2) glass fiber grid was used; 3) carbon fiber grid was used. RESULTS : The reflection-cracking ratio of fiber grid reinforced sections was much smaller than that of ordinary sections. The fiber grid reinforcement also showed reduction effect on rutting while that on roughness was not clear. The reflection-cracking was not affected by traffic volume but by slab deformation and joint movement caused by temperature variation. The bonding shear strength of the fiber grid reinforced sections was larger than that of the ordinary sections. The fracture energy, displacement after yield, and shear stiffnesses of the cores of the fiber grid reinforced sections were also larger than those of the ordinary sections. Finite element analysis results showed that fatigue cracking of glass or carbon fiber grid reinforced pavement was much smaller than that of ordinary pavement. Carbon fiber grid reinforcement showed larger effect in elongating the fatigue life of the ordinary overlay pavement compared to glass fiber grid reinforcement. The binder type of the overlay layer also affected the fatigue life. The fiber grid reinforcement resisted reflection-cracking and the carbon fiber grid showed the greater effect. CONCLUSIONS :The results of field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis showed that the fiber grid reinforcement had a better effect on improving long-term performance of asphalt pavement overlaid on the old concrete pavement.
VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because the overlaid or repaired could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. Although the field performance of VES-LMC generally indicates that it has an excellent bonding to the substrate and shows a long term performance, little quantitative data or research results have been presented in the literature on structural studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior, interfacial performance, crack propagation, and strengthen effect of RC beam overlaid or repaired by VES-LMC through the 4-point flexural loading test. Two different types of RC beam were fabricated for repair and rehabilitation types. The test result showed that the strengthen effect, in term of flexural stiffness, increases as the depth of repair or overlay increases. More than 40% of stiffness was improved when the depth of repair was up to steel position. However, there was a little difference between 80 mm and 120 mm repaired beam. This means the repair depth must be considered. The interfacial behavior data showed that the repaired or overlaid beams had a little relative displacement. This means that two materials behave comparatively acting together. However, there were two specimens which had large displacement at the interface, because of poor bond strength. This suggested that interface treatment is one of the most important jobs in composite beams.
Stellite 12 alloy-powders were overlaid on 410 stainless steel valve seat using plasma transferred arc(PTA) process. Variation of the microstructure, hardness, wear and corrosion of overlaid deposit with current change was investigated. The deposit showed hypoeutectic microstructure, which was consisted of primary cobalt dendrite and networked $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides. As current increased, the amount of eutectic carbide decreased and its dendritic secondary arm spacing increased. Hardness of the deposit was decreased with increase of current. Stress relief heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for two hours resulted in slight increase of hardness in the deposit and showed uniform hardness distribution in base metal without any hardened layer in HAZ. Specific wear decreased with increase of sliding distance. The deposit of high hardness with a lot of eutectic carbide showed relatively low specific wear. Initial corrosion current density of the deposit in 0.1N sulfuric acid was lower than those of 410 stainless steel, and showed a little variation with PTA current.
Analysis of high-resolution satellite image becomes important for cartography, surveillance, and remote sensing. However, there are lots of problems to be solved for automatic analysis of high-resolution satellite image especially in urban area. The problems are originated from the increased complexity due to the unnecessary details and shadows, and time-varying illuminations. Because of such obstacles, it seems impossible to make automatic analysis. This paper proposes a way of change detection of buildings in urban area by using digital vector map. The proposed way makes the buildings on the vector map parameterized, and searches them in the preprocessed high-resolution image by using generalized Hough transform. The searched building objects are overlaid on the satellite image. The overlaid image can help to detect the change of building rapidly.
An improved method for the selection of high tobramycin-producing mutants of Streptomyces tenebrarius ATCC 17920 was investigated. By the use of apramycin-containing media, low nebramycin-producing mutants were eliminated. Strain No. 23, resistant to apramycin and kanamycin B and sensitive to tobramycin, was isolated from soils, identified as Pseudomonas paucimobilis and used as a test organism for overlaying the mutants on agar plate. While inhibition zones were not shown when the parent strains were overlaid with soft agar containing the strain No. 23, clear zones were shown when high tobramycin-producing mutants were overlaid. Using this screening strategy, 58 mutants showing clear zones had been isolated. antibiotic activities of which were incresed to 3~8 fold compared to that of parent strain.

In this paper, we consider the overlaid system of single frequency network broadcast service and cellular-based unicast data service. In general, broadcast service and unicast data service were considered as a separate services so that different frequency resources have been allocated for each. As the frequency resource get more expensive, however, there were some efforts to provide both the broadcast and unicast service over the same frequency resource by employing the so-called superposition coding. In fact, such an service overlay system has already been accepted as a standards in 3GPP long-term evolution (LTE). In this paper, we specifically investigate such overlay system within 3GPP framework and evaluate their performance in terms of BC coverage and UC data throughput.
The fingerprint is the identity authentication method which is representative uses biometrics. Compared with password methods there is a feature where the dangerousness of embezzling or lossing is few. With like these features using the fingerprint in OTP creations. In this paper, we introduce the developed prototype of OTP system using fingerprint. And the overcome method of OTP system's demerit using fingerprint which extracts few minutiae points into a whole fingerprint image is proposed. A few minutiae points wasn't generated many encryption key for OTP session. The proposed method is overlaid the same fingerprint simply and added many minutiae points as biased overlaid fingerprints. Hence the security of OTP using fingerprint and the randomness over password-guessing are strengthened.
The bending performances were evaluated at the radiata pine plywood through veneer compositions encompassing veneer quality, ply-numbers and overlays of the high density- or medium density-phenol resin impregnated sheets (hereafter abbreviated as resin sheets) on the raw plywood. In addition, a prediction on the bending MOE of veneers and plywoods was carried out by the nondestructive testing with stresswave timer. The summarized results were as follows: I. Bending strength and bending MOE of resin sheets-overlaid plywoods in parallel surface grain direction through 5 and 7ply were increased by 13 to 45% and 17 to 34%, respectively. Resin sheets-overlay occurred an increasing effect of the strength efficiency i.e. strength perpendicular-to-grain direction versus that parallel-to-grain direction, showing the phenomenon that the plywood strength becomes greater at the perpendicular-to-grain direction of 7ply than at that of 5ply. Displacement at bending failure had a greater trend at 7ply than at 5ply, and was decreased by resin sheets-overlay. 2. After the nondestructive bending MOEs were measured for individual veneers, these veneers were rearranged in plywood-manufacture. In these plywoods, including resin sheets-overlay, the actual MOE was predictable with feasibility of $R^2$=0.53, and also the nondestructively-evaluated MOE was lower by 20% in raw plywood, and higher 20% in LVL than actual bending MOEs.

A numerical technique for simulating the separation dynamics of strap-on boosters jettisoned in the dense atmosphere is presented. Six degree of freedom rigid body equations of motion are integrated into the three-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes solution procedure to determine the dynamic motions of strap-ons. An automated Chimera overlaid grid technique is introduced to achieve maximum efficiency for multi-body dynamic motion and a domain division technique is implemented in order to reduce the computational cost required to find interpolation points in the Chimera grids. The flow solver is validated by comparing the computed results around the Titan IV launch vehicle with experimental data. The complete analysis process is then applied to the. H-II launch vehicle, the central rocket in japans space program, the CZ-3C launch vehicle developed in China and the KSR-III, a three-stage sounding rocket being developed in Korea. From the analyses, separation trajectories of strap-on boosters are predicted and aerodynamic characteristics around the vehicles at every time interval are examined. In addition, separation-impulse devices generally introduced for safe separation of strap-ons are properly modeled in the present paper and the jettisoning force requirements are examined quantitatively.
