Road or Railway construction over soft ground is needed to be considered on secondary consolidation which will be caused differential settlement, lack of transport serviceability, higher maintenance cost. Especially for the railway construction in the second phase of Gyung-Bu or Ho-Nam high speed railway, concrete slab track has been adapted as a safe and cost effective geotechnical solution. In this case controlling the total settlement under the tolerance is essential. And pile supported geogrid reinforced construction method is suggested as a solution for the problem of the traditional method on soft soil treatments. Pile supported geogrid reinforced construction method consists of piles that are designed to transfer the load of the embankment through the compressible soil layer to a firm foundation. The load from the embankment must be effectively transferred to the piles to prevent punching of the piles through the embankment fill creating differential settlement at the surface of the embankment. The arrangement of the piles can create soil arching to carry the load of embankment to the piles. In order to minimize the number of piles geogrid reinforced pile supported construction method is being used on a regular basis. This method consists of one or more layers of geogrid reinforcement placed between the top of the piles and the bottom of the embankment. This paper presents several methods of pile supported geogrid reinforced construction and calculation results from the several methods and comparison of them.
Consolidants were extended use for conservation of weathered stone heritage. Epoxy, acryl, isocyanate, and alkoxysilane consolidants are most commonly used products. Consolidant of 1T1G_5 wt 0.08 % that consists of T (TEOS: Tetraethyl Orthosilicate) and G (GPTMS: 3-Glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane) were used this study. A shore hardness values show increasing after treated with consolidant in granite. Surface brightness after treated with consolidant are changing slightly dark but turns the original color over time. Ultra-sonic velocity is increased after treated with consolidant but slightly reduced over time to remain constant. It has the advantage of being effective after treated with consolidant in granite and efficiency of consolidation increase with slow velocity before treated with consolidant.

Volume change of the dredged soils is composed of the volume loss of soil particle flowing over an outflow weir with water and settlement due to both the self-weight consolidation in reclaimed layer and the desiccation at the surface of reclaimed layer. In order to estimate the amount of soil particles flowing over an outflow weir with water, the evaluation procedure of loss ratio of the dredged soils is proposed in the present study based on the Marsal's modified breakage theory and the results of hydrometer analyses. To verify a validity of the proposed procedure, evaluated loss ratio is compared with results from the other existing methods. The model test results and those of field test were compared and analyzed. Also, the variation of soil loss ratio was examined through the model test in the lab.

Settlement of the piled raft can be estimated even after years of completing the construction of any structure over the foundation. This study is devoted to carry out numerical analysis by the finite element method of the consolidation settlement of piled rafts over clayey soils and detecting the dissipation of excess pore water pressure and its effect on bearing capacity of piled raft foundations. The ABAQUS computer program is used as a finite element tool and the soil is represented by the modified Drucker-Prager/cap model. Five different configurations of pile groups are simulated in the finite element analysis. It was found that the settlement beneath the piled raft foundation resulted from the dissipation of excess pore water pressure considerably affects the final settlement of the foundation, and enough attention should be paid to settlement variation with time. The settlement behavior of unpiled raft shows bowl shaped settlement profile with maximum at the center. The degree of curvature of the raft under vertical load increases with the decrease of the raft thickness. For the same vertical load, the differential settlement of raft of ($10{\times}10m$) size decreases by more than 90% when the raft thickness increased from 0.75 m to 1.5 m. The average load carried by piles depends on the number of piles in the group. The groups of ($2{\times}1$, $3{\times}1$, $2{\times}2$, $3{\times}2$, and $3{\times}3$) piles were found to carry about 24%, 32%, 42%, 58%, and 79% of the total vertical load. The distribution of load between piles becomes more uniform with the increase of raft thickness.

Nanostructured high strength metastable Al-, Mg- and Ti-based alloys containing different amorphous, quasicrystalline and nanocrystalline phases are synthesized by non-equilibrium processing techniques. Such alloys can be prepared by quenching from the melt or by powder metallurgy techniques. This paper focuses on one hand on mechanically alloyed and ball milled powders containing different volume fractions of amorphous or nano-(quasi)crystalline phases, consolidated bulk specimens and, on the other hand. on cast specimens containing different constituent phases with different length-scale. As one example. $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$- based metallic glass matrix composites are produced by mechanical alloying of elemental powder mixtures containing up to 30 vol.% $Y_2O_3$ particles. The comparison with the particle-free metallic glass reveals that the nanosized second phase oxide particles do not significantly affect the glass-forming ability upon mechanical alloying despite some limited particle dissolution. A supercooled liquid region with an extension of about 50 K can be maintained in the presence of the oxides. The distinct viscosity decrease in the supercooled liquid regime allows to consolidate the powders into bulk samples by uniaxial hot pressing. The $Y_2O_3$ additions increase the mechanical strength of the composites compared to the $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$ metallic glass. The second example deals with Al-Mn-Ce and Al-Cu-Fe composites with quasicrystalline particles as reinforcements, which are prepared by quenching from the melt and by powder metallurgy. $Al_{98-x}Mn_xCe_2$ (x =5,6,7) melt-spun ribbons containing a major quasicrystalline phase coexisting with an Al-matrix on a nanometer scale are pulverized by ball milling. The powders are consolidated by hot extrusion. Grain growth during consolidation causes the formation of a micrometer-scale microstructure. Mechanical alloying of $Al_{63}Cu_{25}Fe_{12}$ leads to single-phase quasicrystalline powders. which are blended with different volume fractions of pure Al-powder and hot extruded forming $Al_{100-x}$$(Al_{0.63}Cu_{0.25}Fe_{0.12})_x$ (x = 40,50,60,80) micrometer-scale composites. Compression test data reveal a high yield strength of ${\sigma}_y{\geq}$700 MPa and a ductility of ${\varepsilon}_{pl}{\geq}$5% for than the Al-Mn-Ce bulk samples. The strength level of the Al-Cu-Fe alloys is ${\sigma}_y{\leq}$550 MPa significantly lower. By the addition of different amounts of aluminum, the mechanical properties can be tuned to a wide range. Finally, a bulk metallic glass-forming Ti-Cu-Ni-Sn alloy with in situ formed composite microstructure prepared by both centrifugal and injection casting presents more than 6% plastic strain under compressive stress at room temperature. The in situ formed composite contains dendritic hcp Ti solid solution precipitates and a few $Ti_3Sn,\;{\beta}$-(Cu, Sn) grains dispersed in a glassy matrix. The composite micro- structure can avoid the development of the highly localized shear bands typical for the room temperature defor-mation of monolithic glasses. Instead, widely developed shear bands with evident protuberance are observed. resulting in significant yielding and homogeneous plastic deformation over the entire sample.

Geotextile effects as reinforcement and vertical drain materials are studied through the laboratory model embankments on weak clays. The experiments are carried out in four stages; no woven fabrics between clay-crushed stone boundary, fabrics between boundary with no initial pretensioning of fabrics, and fabrics between boundary with two different initial pretensionings of fabrics. In all stages, vertical drains utilizing non-woven fabrics are installed in the clay layer in square pattern to accelarate the consolidation. The experimental model has plane dimensions of $32cm{\times}330cm$. The height for the clay container is 60 cm. The 47 cm height of crushed stone embankment is constructed over the 50 cm deep clay layer. The time dependent pore pressures are measured utilizing the 8 piezometers installed symmetrically on both sides of the wall at different heights. The time dependent deformations are measured utilizing the LED indicating lamp matrix inserted in the crushed stone embankment and the dialgauges put on top of the clay layer where the crushed stones are not laid. The measurements are carried out for 10 days which is equivalent to the time required for the primary consolidation. Through the experimental study, an analytical procedure is developed to predict the time dependent embankment settlement even if the top of the clay layer is reinforced with woven fabrics. This can be done through measuring the maximum pore pressures developed in the clay layer and comparing with the theoretical maximum pore pressures when no reinforcing fabrics are employed.

Over the years, Advanced Public Transportation System (APTS) has been implemented to manage and operate public transportation system. With the expanding mass spatio-temporal data such as comprehensive spatial information of each individual passenger and public transportation vehicle, it has been required to consolidate and analyze these multiple data sets from various sources. This paper demonstrates how GIS is utilized for the consolidation of massive transit related spatio-temporal information. And it presents effective applications to improve transit planning process and support transit related decision-making activities. GIS based system is used to combine multi-agents' data in the areas of transit operation and individual transit ride and transfer management. Due to the unique comprehensiveness and the level of detail of the data provide by the Seoul Transit system, this GIS based information consolidation is the first in its class. Based on the integrated database, this paper describes the effective and efficient GIS based analysis deployed in a transportation system planning process. The data integration systems and analytic models developed in this paper can be transferred and applied by any municipal governments provided that the appropriate data is available.
The effects of $AI_{2}$$O_{3}$ and the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$ on the phase separation and optical properties of sodium borosilicate glass film fabricated by AFD(Aerosol Flame Deposition) were investigated. When AI,O, of 6wt% was added to $66SiO_2-27B_2O_3-7Na_2O$ the clear glass film without any crystallization was produced under air-quenching condition after consolidation. As the amount of $AI_{2}$$O_{3}$ increased from 1.5 to 6.0 wt% the refractive index linearly increased from 1.4610 to 1.4701, and the difference of TE and TM mode causing by residual stress in film increased gradually. However, the difference of TE and TM mode to reveal birefringence could be minimized by annealing below the glass transition temperature after consolidation and air quenching. On the other hand. as the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$ increased the refractive index and birefringence of glass film tended to increase, but the measurement of their values were not available at over the critical ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$, because of the cloudiness due to crystallization. The phase separation was greatly accelerated with increasing the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$.
A total of 498 agricultural reservoirs ranging from $164{\times}10^3\;m^3$ to $253{\times}10^6\;m^3$ in storage volume were investigated from 1990 to 2001 with respect to Chl-${\alpha}$, COD concentration and pollutant loading of BOD, TN, and TP. The lakes and reservoirs could be classified to 4 types using the relationships between the ratio of storage volume per water surface area(ST/WS) and Chl-${\alpha}$ concentration. It is recommended that the improvement of polluted lakes should be performed in the order of integrated consolidation type ${\rightarrow}$ watershed consolidation type ${\rightarrow}$ in-lake consolidation type ${\rightarrow}$ Management type and reservoir should be constructed to be over $5{\sim}6\;m$ in depth(ST/WS ratio) for preventing the eutrophication of agricultural reservoirs. We propose that water quality criteria for agricultural water is changed from less than 8 mg/L to less than 6 mg/L for safety value, $6{\sim}10\;mg/L$ for concern value, and more than 10 mg/L for countermeasure value in COD concentration, respectively.
In this study, the impact of sand and weathered granite soil is analyzed by changing the internal temperature from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}70^{\circ}C$C by installing a heating coil inside the triaxial cell. To check the effect on weathered granite soil due to increase of temperature and number of heating-coiling cycles are analyzed by measuring the temperature by using thermometer installed inside the triaxial cell and due to that deviator stress also occurred during the consolidated undrained test. To analyze the effect of weathered granite soil with change of temperature during undrained testing. The deviator stress and pore pressure is measured. As a result, pore pressure increases and the deviator stress decreases with rise of temperature.
