Reliability Improvement of the Electronic Security Fence Using Friction Electricity Sensor by Analyzing Frequency Characteristic of Environmental Noise Signal (환경잡음신호의 주파수특성 분석에 의한 전자보안펜스의 신뢰성 향상)

  • A passive type of fence security system was developed, which was based on electric charge detection technique. The implemented fence security system was installed at outskirts of greenhouse laboratory in the University of Seoul. The purpose of this research is to minimize false alarms by analyzing environmental noise. The existing system determines the intrusion alarm by analyzing the power of amplified signal, but the alarm was seriously affected by natural strong wind and heavy rainfall. The SAU(Signal Analysis Unit) sends input signals to remote server which displays intrusion alarm and stores all the information in database. The environmental noise such as temperature, humidity and wind speed was separately gathered to analyze a correlation with input signal. The input signal was analyzed for frequency characteristic using FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) and the algorithm that differentiate between intrusion alarm and environmental noise signal is improved. The proposed algorithm is applied for the site for one month as the same as the existing algorithm and the false alarm data was gathered and analyzed. The false alarm number was decreased by 98% after new algorithm was applied to the fence. The proposed algorithm improved the reliability at the field regarding environmental noise signal.

Exploring Residential Segregation through Spatial Concentration Index - as a case of Seoul Metropolitan Area - (집중지표 기법을 활용한 수도권 주거지 분리에 대한 실증적 접근)

  • In order to solve the problem of how to estimate the residential segregation, the Spatial Concentration Index(SCI) and Location quotient(LQ) are able to be one of alternative methods, and a comprehensive analysis of the residential segregation phenomenon in the seoul metropolitan area is the aim of the study. The results of SCI show that residential concentration areas in low-rent are some Gyeonggi-do's downtown(Bucheon-si, Suwon-si) as well as rural and urban-rural complex outskirts of the metropolitan area. The results of changing of SCI from 2011 to 2014, downward changes appeared thirteen districts and upward changes appeared fourteen districts. Especially downward change district was Sosa-gu, Bucheon-si and upward change district was Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si. In conclusion, that high rent level groups are more concentration on specific area than low rent level groups. By decreasing residential concentration districts in low-rent level group, 'diversity' districts have been increasing in seoul metropolitan but the phenomenon of residential concentration in high and low level group have been being intensified. These results could be confirmed by quantitative through LQ. Methodologically LQ would strengthen the explanatory power of SCI, and ongoing research of SCI in conjunction with other quantitative methods will need.

Preference of Cohousing according to Sense of Community in Housing Life (주생활 공동체 의식에 따른 코하우징 선호도)

  • Purpose of this study is to investigate influence on preference of cohousing (eg. intention to spread and intention to move in cohousing) according to sense of community, especially in housing life by married people residing in Seoul and its outskirts. Research method used for this study was a social survey. Respondents were 214 people by accidential sampling. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program using frequency, mean, average, T-test, one-way Anova, Duncan's Multiple Range test and Chi-square test. Findings of this study were as follows. Most respondents took part in interactive activities with colleagues from the same occupation. They Focused on the issues about health, leisure and hobby. The respondents mainly wanted to have interaction for changing recycling materials and education programs for children and juveniles. Degree of ideal relationships with neighbors, they think, were greeting and chatting as well as communication about issues on child-care, education for children, offense-prevention and safety. Although respondents were interested in community life and in interaction with their neighbors, they did not build up communal society due to lack of a sense of belonging in their living areas. While respondents showed positive response about preference of cohousing, there were difference between intention to spread of cohousing and intention to move in cohousing. As a result of this study, the stronger sense of community in housing life meant the more interests in thoughts to spread and to move in cohousing. Therefore, in order to increase sense of community in cohousing, the plan of various communication programs that enables frequent interaction among neighbors is needed. Also, in order to spread cohousing in Korea, promotion of cohousing community and cognitions about it are the most needed.

Findings of this study were as follows. 1) Though respondents took part in interaction meetings rarely, they took part more often in meetings for health issue, leisure and hobby. Members of meetings were mostly job colleagues. 2) The respondents were interested in meetings for exchange of used stuffs, and children and the youth program most. It was revealed that the group taking part in meetings more often have higher sense of community than others. 3) Respondents who were older, who have been living longer in the same town had higher sense of community as well as closer interaction with neighbors than others. 4) As respondents showed positive response about preference of cohousing, there was a difference between intention to spread and intention to move in cohousing. While women, more educated, less income, and higher sense of community groups showed higher intention to spread cohousing, home owner and higher sense of community groups showed higher intention to move in cohousing.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the preferences on development and management of senior congregate housing according to the preferred developer type. For social survey research, survey was conducted from December 1-20, 2004 in seoul Metropolitan area. The data were collected from m people in 40s-60s using questionnaire which distributed only to those having at least $60\%$ of positive interest in developing the senior congregate housing.'rho results were as follows: First, since majority of respondents wanted to have their old age from mid-60's after retirement more independently, the housing should be designed in a way for them to stay in the m's length of friends and community people. Residential spaces should be individually partitioned and various services should be provided in a semi-dependent manner. The location should be where the medical services were systematically available and ambient environment was agreeable. Second, the cohousing type developers preferred to develop the housing in a form of joint investment with the Potential residents, while the individual developers would like to sell or rent the housing thus would ask for the locations at the outskirts of big cities. In conclusion, most respondents had comparatively similar opinions in terms of the preferred types of development, residential aspects and cost features of the senior congregate housing.

  • Worldwide Electric Vehicle (EV) sales are rapidly increasing. But in many cases, charging locations can be found within or near downtown area of the city which makes EV users living outskirts of the city very difficult to establish their daily EV charging routines. In order to improve this situation, we have come up with a daily EV charge service connected with convenience stores and restaurants within reach of most EV users living in South Korea. We aim to allow users to charge their EVs while they shop and eat, just as if they charge their smartphones at cafes and restaurants. We have gone through user diary research and focus group interview research to figure out current user's concerns regarding charging and maintenance of EVs and applied the findings to our proposed service design.

Examining the Urban Growth Process of the 1st New Town -Focusing on the Keyword Network Analysis of Newspaper Articles using Text Mining- (1기 신도시의 도시 성장 과정 고찰 - 텍스트마이닝을 이용한 신문기사의 키워드 네트워크 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore urban issues that have arisen in the urban growth process of the 1st New Town for about 34 years since its construction through newspaper articles. For this purpose, newspaper articles related to the 1st New Town were collected using web crawling, and content analysis was conducted based on text mining. The main findings of the study are as follows. First, in the early stages of the construction of the 1st New Town, issues were diverse in the following six sectors: living service facilities, real estate, transportation, urban development and maintenance, safety, and housing supply, but gradually narrowed down to those of real estate and urban development and maintenance. Second, during the new town construction and urban stabilization stages, the network structure centered on 'Seoul' was maintained, which can be explained by the fact that the 1st New Town was geographically located on the outskirts of Seoul, and many articles compared the issues to Seoul. Third, the issue of urban aging appeared from the 10th year after construction, and the discussion on urban reorganization due to urban aging began in earnest from the 30th year after construction. The significance of the study is that it explored the urban issues that occurred throughout the urban growth process of the 1st New Town, and can be used as a basis for preparing a plan to reorganize the 1st New Town.

A Comparative Study of Landscape Design Competitions' Guidelines and Entry Plans -The Case of Winning Design Proposals for Urban Infrastructure of the Hangdong Bogeumjari Housing District- (조경현상설계지침과 출품작의 내용관계 비교 -항동 보금자리주택지구 도시기반시설공모 입상작을 중심으로-)

  • This study is aimed at the improvement of administrative operations of landscape design competitions and qualitative enhancement of design quality by mutually comparing the guidelines and entry plans. The case targeted for the current study is landscape design proposals for the Seoul Hangdong Bogeumjari Housing District recently launched within a greenbelt zone in the outskirts of Seoul. The study examines from a critical perspective the design guidelines and the contents of the three winning design proposals with a focus on whether or not they have reflected the guidelines. It was observed that many provisions of the principles and conceptual guidelines which serve as clues to the designs for winning designs proposals show the direction in which the project is to be headed It was also observed that the provisions and the way they are expressed are intertwined, while, at the same time, the guidelines were not organized or developed in an orderly manner. Such a structural pattern of the guidelines is linked to the aspects of the contents of the winning design proposals as described in the following. It is observed that guidelines related to the direction in which the design to be headed are so regulatory and lengthy that they are overly standardized. This could make it difficult to read the possibility of the alternative shifts in the winning design proposals. At the same time, the attributes of winning design proposals themselves, which require observable discriminatory superiority, could serve as a factor causing excess of meanings by jumping on the bandwagon of naming. On the contrary, where autonomy of design is guaranteed or no guidelines are provided for the winning design proposals, discriminatory differences were observed, thereby making it easy to measure them This illustrates well that guidelines and structural format should be provided through a separate undertaking that has taken into careful consideration environmental traits of the site in question, objectives required and so forth.

Research on the Spatio-temporal Distribution Pattern of Temperature Using GIS in Korea Peninsular (GIS를 이용한 한반도 기온의 시·공간적 분포패턴에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to construe spatio-temporal characteristics of temperature in cities and changes of climatical regions in analyzing a change of Korea Peninsular climate. We used daily mean air temperature data which was collected in South and North Korea for the past 34 years from 1974 to 2007. We created temperature map of 500m resolution using Inverse Distance Weight in application with adiabatic lapse rate per month in linear relation with height and temperature. In the urbanization area, the data analyzed population in comparison with temperature changes by the year. An annual rising rate of temperature was calculated $0.0056^{\circ}C$, and the temperature was increased $2.14^{\circ}C$ from 1974 to 2107. The south climate region in Korea by the Warmth index was expanded to the middle climate region by the latitude after 1990s. A rise of urban area in mean temperature was $0.5-1.2^{\circ}C$, Seoul, metropolitan and cities which were high density of urbanization and industrialization with the population increase between 1980s and 1990s. In case of North Korea, Cities were Pyeongyang, Anju, Gaecheon, Hesan. A rise in cities areas in mean temperature has influence on vegetation, especially secondary growth such as winter buds of pine trees appears built-up area and outskirts in late Autumn. Finally, nowaday we confront diverse natural events over climatical changes, We need a long-term research to survey and analyze an index on the climatical changes to present a systematic approach and solution in the future.

Image and Visual Preference of the Median Bus Stops;Focusing on Seoul City (중앙부 버스 정류장의 이미지와 시각적 선호에 관한 연구;서울시를 중심으로)

  • The City of Seoul enforces the 'Median reserved bus lane', a revised public transportation system, in order to achieve both a faster and more convenient transit system. This study examines the visual image and preference of the median bus stops in accordance with the operation of the median reserved bus lanes. In order to evaluate and clarify the distinct landscape of each bus stop in a different environment, our team selected 3 representative bus stops with different environments on main roads and conducted landscape simulations so as to evaluate visual preference. The sites were on a narrow range road, wide width road in the downtown area and wide width road on the outskirts of the city. The preference degree for each selected bus-stop environment was compared. The comparison conditions were a median bus stop with preexisting landscape, a median bus stop with planted trees, and a landscape without a median bus stop. The results of the study can be Summarized as follows: First, the visual influence on median bus stops depends on the visual complexity of the environment where they are located. People had an affinity for the median bus stop in which the visual complexity was low, while the preference degree of median bus stop was low in a highly complex area. Secondly, regardless of regional environment where median bus stops are located, research showed that it is more "impressive" to have a median bus-stop with planted trees than landscape without a median bus stop. Thirdly, the median bus stop with plants highly preferred over one without moreover, the landscape with planted trees would provide a comfortable mind for people. This study reveals that planting-oriented design concepts in median bus stops exhibit significant differences in the preference assessment factors. Thus, for further median bus stop construction, planting is desirable to create an impressive streetscape and better scenic quality.
