평일과 주말의 활동변화에 따른 대학생들의 이산화질소 노출 (Determination of Nitrogen Dioxide Exposure for University Students by Activity Pattern of Weekday and Weekend)

  • Indoor air quality tends to be the dominant contributor to personal exposure, because most people spend over 80% of their time indoors. In this study, indoor and outdoor NO$_2$ concentrations were measured and compared with simultaneously personal exposures of 21 university students in weekday and weekend. House characteristics and activity pattern were used to determine the impacts of these factors on personal exposure. Since university students spent most of their times in indoor, their NO$_2$ exposure was associated with indoor NO$_2$ level rather than outdoor NO$_2$ level both weekday and weekend in spite of different time activity. Using time-weighted average model, NO$_2$ exposures of university students were estimated by NO$_2$ measurements in indoor home, indoor school, and outdoor home levels. Estimated NO$_2$ personal exposures were significantly correlated with measured NO$_2$ personal exposures($r^2$=0.87). However, estimated personal NO$_2$ exposures by time-weighted average model were underestimated, comparing with the measured personal NO$_2$ exposure. Using multiple regression analysis, effect of personal NO$_2$ exposure for transportation was confirmed.

Development of Source Profiles and Estimation of Source Contribution for Hazardous Air Pollutants by the Principal Component Analysis in Indoor Air

  • The purpose of this study is to characterize the indoor-outdoor relationship of airborne pollutants and recognize probable sources in inside and outside individual apartments in Seoul metropolitan. Simultaneous air monitoring in inside and outside of the 16 Korean Apartments classified into 2groups: less than 1 year old and more than 4 years old from October, 2004 to February, 2005were sampled f3r airborne pollutants(volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, respiratory particles, carbon dioxide and bacteria) using the Korean Indoor Air Quality Official Method. The concentrations of $CO_2$, TVOCs, HCHO, bacteria and PM10 in the less than 1 year old apartments were determined to be $773.6{\pm}422.3ppm$, $4,393.8{\pm}2,758.2{\mu}g/m^3$, $98.0{\pm}56.4{\mu}g/m^3$, $254.0{\pm}186.3CFU/m^3$ and $31.7{\pm}14.8{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, Also, the concentrations of those in the more than 4 years old apartments were determined to be $798.9{\pm}266.5ppm$, $792.7{\pm}398.3{\mu}g/m^3$, $70.0{\pm}30.7{\mu}g/m^3$, $245.6{\pm}122.0CFU/m^3$, $49.7f28.7{\pm}g/m^3$, respectively. The average ratios of the indoor and outdoor concentrations of $CO_2$, TVOCs, HCHO, bacteria and PM10 were 2.2, 3.6, 3.1, 3.9 and 1.4, respectively. These results of this analysis is suggested that $CO_2$, TVOCs, HCHO, bacteria and PM10 in indoor air are both emitted from source within the apartment environment and partly come from outdoor air. With the above considerations in mind, it is suggested that the research for source contribution of indoor air pollutants should be expanded and the detailed interpretation of the results on these needed further study(using principal component analysis(PCA).

  • The air-side particulate fouling in the heat exchangers of HVAC applications degrades the performance of cooling capacity, pressure drop across a heat exchanger, and indoor air quality. Indoor and outdoor air contaminants foul heat exchangers. The purpose of this study is to investigate and to model the air-side particulate fouling characteristics of the heat exchangers using accelerated particle loading system. The main variables of the modeling equation are face velocity and dust concentration. The modeling equation shows good agreements with the experimental results at the face velocity of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 m/s and the dust concentration of 1.28 and $3.84\;g/m^3$. It will be very useful to predict fouling characteristics such as variations of pressure drop and heat transfer capacity in finned-tube heat exchangers of air conditioners.

  • A numerical study has been carried out on the optimization of an air cleaning system which was installed in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) system of subway station for particle removal. Required particle removal efficiencies of three different air cleaning systems were calculated from ventilation rate, and indoor/outdoor concentration of PM10. Mass balance equations of PM10 were used to solve the required particle removal efficiencies. Fibrous filter was considered as an air cleaning system. Calculations were carried out about two different places which were waiting area and platform of subway station, respectively. This study proposed optimized design and operation condition of each air cleaning system.

  • Recently, indoor air pollution has been seriously apprehended, and became a striking issue, due to the airtightness of buildings or the misuse of building materials. Especially, SHS(Sick House Syndrome) and MCS(Multi Chemical Sensitivity) which can have bad influences on the resident in an existing apartment house as well as newly constructed apartment house start to attract public attention. The emission rates of VOCs is sensitively affected by the indoor/outdoor condition, construction materials, construction method, and character of ventilation facilities. Therefore, in this study, by measuring the indoor air pollution substance of the existing apartment house, the problem over this tends to be grasped and it is going to secure an improvement methods.

  • The compressor is one of major noise sources in air conditioner outdoor units, especially deteriorating the sound quality. Therefore, the sound insulation materials layered with sound absorption materials are applied around compressors. In this study, the performance of the sound insulators is examined by measuring the insertion losses in power base and the effects of sound absorption materials, method of application and the shape of the insulators are also investigated. The importance of minimizing the opening is revealed well.

  • As being inconvenient to apply reinforced concrete structure to high-rise buildings, it is applied steel structured system. Therefore light-weight wall systems are applied as partition wall to reduce the self-load of the building. But, the required performances of a light-weight wall are not evaluated systematically. As a field survey result, partition walls of house-to-house were not showed their respected performances, so the dwellers are feel so worse the quality of the whole building. In steel-structured high-rise buildings especially, occupant's dissatisfaction concerned indoor noise was high because curtain wall systems having a high air-tight performance isolate the outdoor noise making masking effect. Therefore wall systems which have high performances of sound insulation and air-tightness are required in high-rise buildings. As a result, a new drywall system was presented and the performance was verified with field test.

  • In order to control indoor air quality and save energy, it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery. The purpose of this research is to find the performance of paper heat exchanger for exhaust heat recovery, which exchanges latent heat as well as sensible heat. Experimental apparatus comprises heat exchanger model, constant temperature and humidity chamber, fan and measurement systems for temperature, pressure and flow rate. Thermal performance and pressure loss of the paper heat exchanger are measured and compared at various air velocities and outdoor conditions. Experimental results show that paper heat exchanger can recover $50{\sim}70%$ of the enthalpy difference between supply and exhaust air.

VAV/BPFS(Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System) 의 실내환경 적응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of VAV/BPFS(Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System) for Indoor Air Environment)

  • Under controlled conditions in an environmental chamber, 24 experiments were performed to compare the ability of a Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System(VAV/BPFS) to remove indoor pollutants and to conserve energy with the ability of conventional Variable Air Volume(VAV) system. The specific conclusions of this paper were; first, the VAV/BPFS was more efficient than the VAV system in removing particulate matter, TVOC, and target VOCs. The total effective removal rate of PM for the VAV/BPFS was two times as high as that of the VAV system. The total effective removal rate of TVOC for the VAV/BPFS was 20 percent higher than that of the VAV system. Also each target VOC concentration was reduced by using the VAV/BPFS. Second, clean air delivery rate was increased by using VAV/BPFS due to additional filtration rate. Otherwise, the VAV/BPFS decreased outdoor supply air rate above 25 percent relative to the rate of VAV system. Third, total energy consumption by the VAV/BPFS was lower than that of the VAV system during the period with indoor thermal load, occupied time. The energy saving of the VAV/BPFS ranged from 11 to 16 percent. The VAV/BPFS improves indoor air quality more efficiently than the VAV system, and it reduced energy consumption. Retrofitting the VAV system with the VAV/BPFS was easy The use of VAV/BPFS is, therefore, recommended far buildings with VAV system as well as for buildings at designing stage.

옥외용 고분자 막의 촉진 자외선 노출 영향 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Accelerated UV Exposure on the Polymer Membrane for Outdoor Users)

  • 고분자 막은 다양한 응용분야에 적용되고 있다. 기존에 고분자 막은 옥외환경에 노출되지 않는 형태로 적용되어 왔으나 최근 대기환경 측정용도, 해수에서 유용금속 추출용 등의 옥외에 적용되는 고분자 막 시스템들이 보고되고 있다. 이에 옥외환경에서의 고분자 막의 특성 연구가 필요하게 되었으며 이러한 측면에서 촉진 자외선 노출 실험 및 이에 대한 영향 연구는 고분자 막의 내후성을 예측할 수 있는 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 폴리설폰 비대칭성 막과 폴리프로필렌 부직포 형태의 막에 대해 촉진 자외선 노출을 실시하고 이에 대한 열적, 기계적 특성, 몰폴로지, 그리고 색차변화 특성에 대한 영향을 보고한다. 실험 결과를 통해서 고분자 막의 자외선 노출에 대한 효과는 막 제조시 사용한 고분자 종류 뿐 만 아니라 막의 형태에도 영향을 받는다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 옥외용도에 적용하는 고분자막에 대한 중요한 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
