In order to study the vibration characteristics of fluid-structure interaction problem, two rectangular plates coupled with bounded fluid were investigated. Experimental modal analyses were carried out to extract the modal parameters of the system. Additionally. finite element modal analyses performed using a commercial computer code, ANSYS. The FEM solutions were compared with the experimental solutions to verify the finite element model. As a result, the comparison between the experiment and FEM results showed excellent agreement. The transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The thickness effect of the plates on the fluid-coupled natural frequencies and mode shapes was investigated for two different cases with the identical thickness and the unequal thickness. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies increase with the thickness for the identical plates regardless of the mode phase. The experimental and the finite element analysis results showed that the out-of-phase mode shapes were deviated from the symmetrical mode shapes in the plate transverse direction fur the unequal plate thickness case.

An experimental study was performed for two types of co-axial cylindrical shell structures in order to establish the relationship between in-air dynamic characteristics and in-water ones and to observe hydrodynamic mass effects on their mode shapes when submerged. The outer cylinders are prepared with two kinds to get more insights on the fluid-structure interaction phenomena: one is flexible, which means that the outer cylinder has almost same stiffness as the inner one, and the other is a rigid one whose stiffness is more than ten times of the inner one's(it might be regarded as the scaled-down model of the reactor internals). The finite element. analyses were also implemented to support the experimental results. The results show that the natural frequencies of a co-axial cylindrical shell structure in water are remarkably lower than those in air due to the fluid mass effects. In case of the flexible-to-flexible cylinders, there exist in-phase and out-of-phase mode shapes and they are affected by the annular gap between the. co-axial cylinders. For the in-phase mode the in-water natural frequency decreases exponentially as the gap increases, while it slightly increases in case of the out-of-phase mode due to the squeezing effect of the gap fluid. In the flexible-to-rigid case, the normalized natural frequency(in-water frequency/in-air one) of the inner cylinder(core barrel model) ranges between in-phase and out-of-phase mode frequencies of the flexible-to-flexible co-axial cylindrical structure having identical dimensions. Also the normalized natural frequency of the inner cylinder of the flexible-to-rigid one moves from near of the in-phase mode frequency into the out-of-phase mode value of the flexible-to-flexible case as circumferential mode number(n) increases.

In this study, a single-phase quasi Z-source AC-AC converters with a series connection of the output terminals is proposed. The proposed system has configuration that the input terminals of two quasi Z-source AC-AC converters are connected in parallel and its output terminals are connected in series. The out of phase mode and in phase mode of the proposed system are presented. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, a DSP controlled hardware was made and PSIM simulation was executed. As a result, controlling the duty ratio of the converter, the desired buck-boost output voltages could be generated. For each modes, as compared with the single converter operation, the proposed converter could enhance the efficiency and input power factor according to different loads. Also, in case of the out of phase mode under the constant load, the efficiency and input power factor of the proposed system are increased 10[%], 35[%] respectively in compared with the single converter. And, the output voltage is constantly controlled in dynamic state in case while the load is suddenly changed.

This study dealt with the free vibration of two identical rectangular plates coupled with fluid. In order to investigate the vibration characteristics of fluid-coupled rectangular plates, an analytical method based on the finite Fourier series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method was suggested. A commercial computer code, ANSYS was used to perform finite element analysis and we investigated the vibration characteristics with mode shapes and natural frequencies. As a result, the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The effect of fluid bounding and plate boundary condition on the fluid-coupled natural frequency were investigated. It was shown that the mode numbers increased, the normalized natural frequencies monotonically increased.
In order to investigate the vibration characteristics of fluid-structure interaction problem, we modeled two identical rectangular plates coupled with fluid. As a result, comparison of FEM and experiment showed good agreement, and the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-Phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The effect of fluid gap size on the fluid-coupled natural frequency were investigated. It was shown that the mode numbers increased, the normalized natural frequencies monotonically increased. And it was also found that an increase of the fluid gap reduced the coupled natural frequencies for the in-phase modes but increased the coupled natural frequencies for the out-of phase modes, and eventually converged to the results of an infinite fluid gap.
This paper proposes the single-phase double-conversion UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) with ESS(Energy Storage System). The Proposed system is operating in three modes, which are normal mode, battery mode, and bypass mode. Not only in black-out but also in peak load times, the system is operating in battery mode which is using the stored energy of the battery to manage the power effectively. The validity of proposed system could be verified by simulations and experiments.
Interleaving techniques are widely used to reduce input/output ripples and to increase the power capacity of boost converters operating in critical conduction mode. Two types of phase-shift control schemes are studied in this paper, the turn-on time shifting method and the turn-off time shifting method. It is found that although the turn-off time shifting method exhibits better performance, it suffers from sub-harmonic oscillations at high input voltages. To solve this problem, an intensive quantitative analysis of the sub-harmonic oscillation phenomenon is made in this paper. Based upon that, a novel modified turn off time shifting control scheme for interleaved boost converters operating in critical conduction mode is proposed. An important advantage of this scheme is that both the master phase and the slave phase can operate stably in critical conduction mode without any oscillations in the full input voltage range. This method is implemented with a FPGA based digital PWM control platform, and tests were carried out on a two-phase interleaved boost PFC converter prototype. Experimental results demonstrated the feasibility and performance of the proposed phase-shift control scheme.

This study dealt with the experimental modal analysis of the perforated rectangular plate coupled with fluid. The natural frequencies of the perforated plate and solid plate in air were obtained by the analytical method based on the relation between the reference kinetic and maximum potential energy and compared with the experimental results. Good agreement between the results was found for the natural frequencies of the perforated plate in air. It was empirically found the natural frequencies of the perforated plate coupled with fluid. The transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. Additionally, the effect of distance between perforated plate and solid plate on the fluid-coupled natural frequency was investigated.

This study newly presents a synthetic phase tuning technique to suppress the unwanted torsional mode while enhancing the desired torsional mode in a pipe. Specifically, we aim at the enhancement of the first torsional mode and the suppression of the undesired, second torsional mode. Earlier efforts were to enhance the desired wave mode only in the hope that the enhancement results in the suppression of the unwanted wave mode. Unlike these efforts, the suggested technique makes the complete cancellation of the unwanted wave mode but it is shown to enhance the desired first mode for torsional wave problems. In the present study, the synthetic phase tuning is developed for the cancellation of the unwanted wave mode, meaning that the number of necessary experimental equipments is reduced. Simulation and experiment were carried out to check the effectiveness of the proposed method. As an application of the suggested technique, we investigated the reflection and mode conversion characteristics of the first torsional mode according to the step thickness variation in a stepped pipe.
The effect of water level on the free vibration of a partially water-filled two rectangular plates structure was investigated by experimental modal analysis and finite element analysis using ANSYS computer program. Modal parameters of two rectangular plates coupled with water were obtained by means of experiment and the FEM solutions were compared with the experimental solutions to verify the finite element model. As a result, the comparison between the experiment and FEM results showed excellent agreement. The transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The effect of water level and water gap size on the fluid-coupled natural frequency were investigated. It was found that the natural frequency of the partially water-filled two rectangular plates are not proportional to the water level, but depend on mode number of plates.
