  • We present an unusual case of bone metastases from renal cell carcinoma around orthopedic implants in a 78-year-old female with osteolytic, expansile, highly vascularized, malignant infiltration around suture anchors in the proximal humerus. The patient had undergone arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using suture anchor implants 6 years previously. After diagnosis of bone metastasis, she was successfully treated with metastasectomy and internal fixation using a plate and screws, with cement augmentation. This report is the first to document metastases around a suture anchor in a bone and suggests the vulnerability of suture anchor implants to tumor metastasis.

Methods: A total of 267 subjects were surveyed on occupational awareness among college students majoring in physical therapy in Gwangju. The collected data were analyzed for frequency analysis and cross-sectional study using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. A chi-square test was conducted to determine if there were any significant differences. Results: As a result of the survey on the recognition of orthopedic manual physical therapy, interest in orthopedic manual physical therapy was high, but the method of treatment, effectiveness and information were insufficient. Conclusions: For the awareness and education of students' orthopedic manual physical therapy, schools and institutional organizations need education and special lectures on orthopedic manual physical therapy for students.

  • Interpostion arthroplasty with allograft has been known as a useful option for the shoulder arthropathy, but it has a limitation to immune response. We performed the pectoralis major muscle transfer for shoulder arthropathy. From January 2007 to December 2007, we performed the pectoralis major muscle transfer in 2 patients. They were 1 man and 1 woman, and the mean age of the patients was 70 years (range, 65 to 75). The average follow-up after surgery was 13 months (range, 12 to 14). We analyzed the clinical results by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) Score, and evaluated the pain by Visual Analogue Scale. The level of pain reduced from a preoperative average of 10 to a postoperative average of 1. The ASES scores increased from a preoperative mean of 9 to a postoperative mean of 58. These results indicated that interposition arthroplasty with the pectoralis major muscle transfer is a reliable treatment method for the shoulder arthropathy improving shoulder pain, and patient satisfaction.
