In order to effectively simulate nonstationary stochastic turbulent wind fields, four separation hybrid (SEP-H) models are proposed in the present study. Based on the assumption that the lateral turbulence component at one single-point is uncorrelated with the longitudinal and vertical turbulence components, the fluctuating wind is separated into 2nV-1D and nV1D nonstationary stochastic vector processes. The first process can be expressed as double proper orthogonal decomposition (DPOD) or proper orthogonal decomposition and spectral representation method (POD-SRM), and the second process can be expressed as POD or SRM. On this basis, four SEP-H models of nonstationary stochastic turbulent wind fields are developed. In addition, the orthogonal random variables in the SEP-H models are presented as random orthogonal functions of elementary random variables. Meanwhile, the number theoretical method (NTM) is conveniently adopted to select representative points set of the elementary random variables. The POD-FFT (Fast Fourier transform) technique is introduced in frequency to give full play to the computational efficiency of the SEP-H models. Finally, taking a long-span bridge as the engineering background, the SEP-H models are compared with the dimension-reduction DPOD (DR-DPOD) model to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed models.
We investigated the effects of a gate dielectric and its solvent on the characteristics of top-gated organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Despite the rough top surface of the inkjet-printed active features, the charge transport in an OFET is still favorable, with no significant degradation in performance. Moreover, the characteristics of the OFETs showed a strong dependency on the gate dielectrics used and its orthogonal solvents. Poly(3-hexylthiophene) OFETs with a poly(methyl methacrylate) dielectric showed typical p-type OFET characteristics. The selection of gate dielectric and solvent is very important to achieve high-performance organic electronic circuits.

On the analysis of cutting mechanics in orthogonal cutting, each cutting force component can be predicted. By adding the flank face wear term to the prediction equation for cutting force components, complete equations are obtained. Using these equations, it is shown that cutting force components are increased linearly as flank face wear land is developed, in theory and experiment. By making non-dimensional term ie. Fv/Fc, the width of variation of output signal Fv/Fc is greately decreased compared with each cutting force component as cutting condition is varied. Among these conditions, the variation of chip width in the range of more than 1mm and that of cutting velocity have little effect on the output signal Fv/Fc, that of Flank face werr land can be detected without difficulty.
Rapid and accurate phase synchronization is critical for the reliable control of grid-tied inverters. However, the commonly used software phase-locked loop methods do not always satisfy the need for high-speed and accurate phase synchronization under severe grid imbalance conditions. To address this problem, this study develops a novel open-loop phase locking scheme based on a synchronous reference frame. The proposed scheme is characterized by remarkable response speed, high accuracy, and easy implementation. It comprises three functional cascaded blocks: fast orthogonal signal generation block, fast fundamental-frequency positive sequence component construction block, and fast phase calculation block. The developed virtual orthogonal signal generation method in the first block, which is characterized by noise immunity and high accuracy, can effectively avoid approximation errors and noise amplification in a wide range of sampling frequencies. In the second block, which is the foundation for achieving fast phase synchronization within 3 ms, the fundamental-frequency positive sequence components of unsymmetrical grid voltages can be achieved with the developed orthogonal signal construction strategy and the symmetrical component method. The real-time grid phase can be consequently obtained in the third block, which is free from self-tuning closed-loop control and thus improves the dynamic performance of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is adaptive to severe unsymmetrical grid voltages with sudden changes in magnitude, phase, and/or frequency. Moreover, this scheme is able to eliminate phase errors induced by harmonics and random noise. The validity and utility of the proposed scheme are verified by the experimental results.

Turbulent flows around tube banks and in the diffuser were studied using a non-orthogonal boundary fitted coordinate system and the modified K-.epsilon. turbulence model. In these cases, many problems emerge which stem from the geometrical complexity of the flow domain and the physical complexity of turbulent flow itself. To treat the complex geometry, governing equations were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with Cartesian velocity components and discretised by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The modified K-.epsilon. model of Hanjalic and Launer was applied to solve above two cases under the condition of strong and mild pressure gradient. The results using the modified K-.epsilon. model results in both test cases.
Under the assumption that the three-level factors are quantitative, the linear effects are taken more attention than the quadratic effects of the interaction terms. Webb (1971) presented some small incomplete factorial designs that are mixed two- and three-level designs with 20 or fewer runs. The designs provided the estimating linear-by-linear components of interactions between the three-level factors; moreover, they could also offer estimation of interactions that interest the experiments. Webb used ad hoc methods to find these plans; hence, there was still no unified structure to those experiments. In this paper, we develop the methods to construct the $2^{n}3^3$ and $2^{1}3^3$ designs. The designs constructed by these methods not only supply orthogonal estimates of all the main effects but also permit estimation of all the two-factor interactions not involving the quadratic effects. Furthermore, the designs we find are nearly orthogonal.

In the use of glass fiber reinforced plastics(GFRP) it is often necessary to cut the components, but the cutting of GFRP is often made difficult by the delamination of the compositions and short tool life. Experimental investigation was conducted to evaluate the chip formation of the glass fiber reinforced plastics during orthogonal cutting. The chip formation process, cutting force, and thrust force were studied. The chip formation processes were studied through the use of quick-stop device. Chip-tool contact areas were obtained with the use of the quick-stop device, and observed using optical microscopy after polishing. Cutting force and thrust force were measured through the use of the tool dynamometer.
The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is a statistical method particularly suitable and versatile for dealing with many problems concerning wind engineering and several other scientific and humanist fields. POD represents a random process as a linear combination of deterministic functions, the POD modes, modulated by uncorrelated random coefficients, the principal components. It owes its popularity to the property that only few terms of the series are usually needed to capture the most energetic coherent structures of the process, and a link often exists between each dominant mode and the main mechanisms of the phenomenon. For this reason, POD modes are normally used to identify low-dimensional subspaces appropriate for the construction of reduced models. This paper provides a state-of-the-art and some prospects on POD, with special regard to its framework and applications in wind engineering. A wide bibliography is also reported.

Finite element analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building was executed using the tables of orthogonal arrays, and optimal design process was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Finite element model of concrete slab was compared with experimental results, and well corresponded with an error of less than 10%. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 8 factors. 3 related to material properties and 5 related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method, ANOVA. The most effective factor among them was slab thickness, and main effect factor from slab shape parameters was different from each natural frequency. The interaction was found in the higher mode over $3^{rd}$ natural frequency. From main effect plot and interaction plot, the optimal design factor to increase the natural frequency was determined.

This paper proposes an improved multi-stage timing offset estimation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in multipath fading channel environment. The conventional multi-stage timing offset estimation scheme is very sensitive to the random multipath components. By exploiting the sample standard deviation of the cross-correlation values, the proposed scheme achieves a robustness to the random multipath components. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has a higher correct estimation probability and has a better mean square error (MSE) performance than the conventional scheme in multipath fading channels.
