OFDM (Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing) systems convert serial data stream to N parallel data streams and modulate them to N orthogonal subcarriers. Thus spectrum utilization efficiency of the OFDM systems are high and high-speed data transmission is possible. However, with the OFDM systems using the same modulation method at all subcarriers, the error probability is dominated by the subcarriers which experience deep fades. Therefore, in order to enhance the performance of the system adaptive modulation is required, with which the modulation methods of the subcarriers are determined according to the estimated SNRs. The IEEE 802.11a system selects various transmission speed between 6 and 54 Mbps according to the modulation mode. There are three typical methods for SNR estimation: Direct estimation method uses the frequency domain symbols to estimate SNR directly by minimizing MSE (Mean Square Error), EVM method utilizes the distance between the demodulated constellation points and received complex values, and the method utilizing the Viterbi algorithm uses the cumulative minimum distance in decoding process to estimate the SNR indirectly. Through comparison analyses of three methods we propose a new SNR estimation method, which employs both the EVM method and the Viterbi algorithm. Finally, we perform extensive computer simulations to confirm the performance improvement of the proposed adaptive OFDM systems on the basis of IEEE 802.11a.
The moving vehicle loads on a bridge deck is one of the most important live loads of bridges. They should be understood, monitored and controlled before the bridge design as well as when the bridge is open for traffic. A MOM-based algorithm (MOMA) is proposed for identifying the timevarying moving vehicle loads from the responses of bridge deck in this paper. It aims at an acceptable solution to the ill-conditioning problem that often exists in the inverse problem of moving force identification. The moving vehicle loads are described as a combination of whole basis functions, such as orthogonal Legendre polynomials or Fourier series, and further estimated by solving the new system equations developed with the basis functions. A number of responses have been combined, some numerical simulations on single axle, two axle and multiple-axle loads, being either constant or timevarying, have been carried out and compared with the existing time domain method (TDM) in this paper. The illustrated results show that the MOMA has higher identification accuracy and robust noise immunity as well as producing an acceptable solution to ill-conditioning cases to some extent when it is used to identify the moving force from bridge responses.

In this paper, we present a time domain combined field integral equation (TD-CFIE) formulation to analyze the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional dielectric objects. The solution method in this paper is based on the method of moments (MoM) that involves separate spatial and temporal testing procedures. A set of the RWG (Rao, Wilton, Glisson) functions Is used for spatial expansion of the equivalent electric and magnetic current densities and a combination of RWG and its orthogonal component is used as spatial testing. We also investigate spatial testing procedures for the TD-CFIE to select the proper testing functions that are derived from the Laguerre polynomials. These basis functions are also used for temporal testing. Use of this temporal expansion function characterizing the time variable enables one to handle the time derivative terms in the integral equation and decouples the space-time continuum in an analytic fashion. Numerical results computed by the proposed formulation are presented and compared with the solutions of the frequency domain combined field integral equation (FD-CFIE).

The paper investigates a novel detector receiver with Kalman channel information estimator and iterative channel response equalization for MIMO (multi-input multi-output) OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communication systems in fast multipath fading environments. The performances of the existing linear equalizers (LE) are not good enough over most fast fading multipath channels. The existing adaptive equalizer with decision feedback structure (ADFE) can improve the performance of LE. But error-propagation effect seriously degrades the system performance of the ADFE, especially when operated in fast multipath fading environments. By considering the Kalman channel impulse response estimation for the fast fading multipath channels based on CE-BEM (complex exponential basis expansion) model, the paper proposes the iterative receiver with soft decision feedback equalization (SDFE) structure in the fast multipath fading environments. The proposed SDFE detector receiver combats the error-propagation effect for fast multipath fading channels and outperform the existing LE and ADFE. We demonstrate several simulations to confirm the ability of the proposed iterative receiver over the existing receivers.

With the advent of the knowledge economy, science and technology resources have played an important role in economic competition, and their optimal allocation has been regarded as very important across the world. Thus, allocation optimization research for regional science and technology resources is significant for accelerating the reform of regional science and technology systems. Regional science and technology resource allocation optimization is modeled as a double-layer optimization model: the entire system is characterized by top-layer optimization, whereas the subsystems are characterized by bottom-layer optimization. To efficaciously solve this optimization problem, we propose a mixed search method based on the orthogonal genetic algorithm and sensitivity analysis. This novel method adopts the integrated modeling concept with a combination of the knowledge model and heuristic search model, on the basis of the heuristic search model, and simultaneously highlights the effect of the knowledge model. To compare the performance of different methods, five methods and two channels were used to address an application example. Both the optimized results and simulation time of the proposed method outperformed those of the other methods. The application of the proposed method to solve the problem of entire system optimization is feasible, correct, and effective.

This paper deals with a method for estimating variance components on the basis of projections under the assumption of random effects model. It discusses how to use projections for getting sums of squares to estimate variance components. The use of projections makes the vector subspace generated by the model matrix to be decomposed into subspaces that are orthogonal each other. To partition the vector space by the model matrix stepwise procedure is used. It is shown that the suggested method is useful for obtaining Type I sum of squares requisite for the ANOVA method.

In this study the feasibility of a dynamic gait for a given quadruped walking robot is investigated through a computer simulation of the walking with certain drivings of the actuators. Two planar inverted pendulums are used to represent the dynamic model of the leg of the walking robot. It's gait motion is assumed to be periodic and symmetric between left and right sides only with half cycle delay. The dynamics of the walking robot is simplified by introducing two virtual legs to produce two planar inverted pendulums in two orthogonal planes and on the basis that certain legs in pair act as one. The feasibility of the dynamic gait motion is established from the following two necessary conditions:(1) The position and velocity of a foot must satisfy the stroke and velocity requirements.(2) The gait motion should be periodic without falling down. The gait feasibility test was applied to a walking robot design showing the specific acceptable speed range of the robot in trot. Also it showed that the higher body height may produce the faster trot gait.

This paper propose the 1-pass spatially adaptive wavelet thresholding for image denosing. The method of wavelet thresholding for denosing, has been concentrated on finding the best uniform threshold or best basis. However, not much has been done to make this method adaptive to spatially changing statistics which is typical of a large class of images. This spatially adaptive thresholding is extended to the overcomplete wavelet expansion, which yields better results than the orthogonal transform. Experiments show that this proposed method does indeed remove noise significantly, especially for large noise power. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms level dependent thresholding techniques and is comparable to spatial Wiener filtering method, 2-pass spatially adaptive wavelet thresholding method in matlab.
In the field of prosthesis arm control, tile pattern classification of the EMG signal is a required basis process and also the estimation of force from col looted EMG data is another necessary duty. But unfortunately, what we've got is not real force but an EMG signal which contains the information of force. This is the reason why he estimate the force from the EMG data. In this paper, when we handle the EMG signal to estimate the force, spatial prewhitening process is applied from which the spatial correlation between the channels are removed. And after the orthogonal transformation, which is used in the force estimation process the transformed signal is inputed into the probabilistic model for pattern classification. To verify the different results of the multiple channels, SNR(signal to noire ratio) function is introduced.

The current automotive is seeking the improvement of performance, the prevention of environmental pollution and the saving of energy resources according to miniaturization and lightweight of the components. And the variance analysis on the basis of structure analysis and DOE is applied to the lower control am. We have proposed a statistical design model to evaluate the effect of structural modification by performing the practical multi-objective optimization considering weight, stress and fatigue lift. The lower control arm is performed the fatigue analysis using the load history of real road test. The design model is determined using the optimization of acquired load history with the fatigue characteristic. The characteristic function is made use of the optimization according to fatigue characteristics to consider constrained function in the optimization of DOE. The structure optimization of a lower control arm according to fatigue characteristics is performed. And the optimized design variable is D=47 m, T=36mm, W=12 mm. In the real engineering problem of considering many objective functions, the multi-objective optimization process using the mathematical programming and the characteristic function is derived an useful design solution.
