The sensitivity on microorganisms of ten sulfa-drugs and their Cu-complexes was observed. Ericsson's disc method and modified tube dilution method were applied. Dimethylformamide was used for solvent of sulfa drugs. In general, original sulfa-drugs showed more sensitive patterns than its Cu-complexes except sulfadimethoxine-Cu complex which showed more sensitive patterns than its original drug with disc method.

In our country, in order to cure diseases, a large number of crude drug preparations has been available. Nevertheless, the development of crude drug preparations have been inhibited, because the quality control is not completed so far. Therefore, we have eontinued on studing the quality control method by Zig-zag TLC. profile analysis. The water extract of 'Samyo-Tang' and componental crude drug (Glycyrrhizae Radix, Ephedrae Herba, Armenicae Semen) were developed on Silica gel $60F_{254}\;plate\;(E.\;Merck)$ useing elution solvent. The developed plate were examined useing Dual Wavelength Zig-zag Scanner (Shimadzu). According to the results of the experiment, it could be summarized as follow: 1) Original patterns of TLC profiles of 'Samyo-Tang' componental crude drug and mixing two crude drugs of 'Samyo-Tang' were observed. 2) Original patterns TLC profile of each extract after spraying with 2% ninhydrine were observed. 3) In the extract of addition and subtraction of Ephedrae Herba, peak area of Rf 0.48 and Rf 0.60 were varied quantitatively.

A near infrared (NIR) method was developed to analyze specious diversity for morphologically similar umbelliferous herbal medicine. Cnidium officinale Makino. This herbal medicine has been widely used as 'chungung' without any discrimination of its quality and original plants. though it has the ambiguous origins of plants between various countries especially Korea. China and Japan. It is named by Cnidium officinale Makino in Korea and Japan. in comparison with Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort. in China. (omitted)

Purpose: This study was aimed to examine the financial effect of 2-tiered copayment system on annual expenditure of pharmacy benefit in the National Health Insurance (NHI) of Korea, focusing on oral antidiabetic medications. Methods: 284 oral antidiabetic products with 14 different active single ingredients listed in the National Formulary of NHI (August 2009) were assigned to tier 1 or tier 2 according to the selected criteria. 10 different combinations of coinsurance rates were selected to estimate the changes in drug expenditure cost of NHI. Results: The annual drug cost was estimated based on the drug price per unit listed in the National Formulary and the used amount of products in 2009 from the IMS Health data of Korea. In the combinations of coinsurance rate of 20% for tier 1 and 40% for tier 2, the total annual drug cost was estimated to be reduced by 1.3% in the case of no change of generic and original drug consumptions, and to be reduced by 4.3% in the case of 10% increased generic drug consumptions. Conclusion: The tiered copayment system with optimal coinsurance rates appears to be a potential strategy to reduce the financial burden of NHI in Korea by promoting the use of generic products.

In recent days, the bioequivalence(BE) study of domestic drugs on original drug are quite, activated in Korea. This BE study provide not only the bioequivalence of test and reference drug but also produce the population pharmacokinetic(PK) parameters in normal healthy Korean. The BE study can also make it possible to establish a PK/PD model of the drug when the additional pharmacodynamic(PD) data are available. (omitted)

In many conventional drug delivery systems in vogue, failure to deliver efficient drug delivery at the target site/organs; is evident as a result, less efficacious pharmacological response is elicited. Microspheres can be derived a remedial measure which can improve site-specific drug delivery to a considerable extent. As an application, Lung-targeting Ofloxacin-loaded gelatin microspheres (GLOME) were prepared by water in oil emulsion method. The Central Composite Design (CCD) was used to optimize the process of preparation, the appearance and size distribution were examined by scanning electron microscopy, the aspects such as in vitro release characteristics, stability, drug loading, loading efficiency, pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution in albino mice were studied. The experimental results showed that the microspheres in the range of $0.32-22\;{\mu}m$. The drug loading and loading efficiency were 61.05 and 91.55% respectively. The in vitro release profile of the microspheres matched the korsmeyer’s peppas release pattern, and release at 1h was 42%, while for the original drug, ofloxacin under the same conditions 90.02% released in the first half an hour. After i.v. administration (15 min), the drug concentration of microspheres group in lung in albino mice was $1048\;{\mu}g/g$, while that of controlled group was $6.77\;{\mu}g/g$. GLOME found to release the drug to a maximum extent in the target tissue, lungs.

Objectives: Bio-equivalence(BE) test is important not only to ensure the quality of generic drugs, but also to promote drug substitution under the separation of prescribing and dispensing practice(SPD). This study was intended to investigate the perception of consumers, doctors, and pharmacists on the confidence of bio-equivalence(BE) assured drugs. Methods: Nation-wide telephone interview survey was conducted for 1,018 consumers, 800 doctors, and 806 pharmacists from September to October in 2003. Descriptive analysis and ${\chi}^2$ analysis were conducted. Results: Even though people showed higher confidence level for the Bioequivalent drugs compared with Bio-inequivalent drugs, the confidence was generally low. Among those asked about the therapeutic substitutability of original drugs by BE versions, 95.78% of pharmacists responded "positive", while only 39.33% of consumers and 31.13% of doctors said so. The elderly, the less educated, who takes chronic disease medicine, pays high cost of prescription drugs, and are in the low income responded less aware of that. Also most consumers got information such as effect of drugs from either media or doctors. Conclusions: In order for people to believe that BE drugs and original drugs are equivalent, we need to strengthen health education, and to clarify any misunderstanding. It is also necessary for the national policy to provide accurate information about drugs to the public.

We studied on the purpose of comparing the original texts with quotations in edema chapter of Dong- Yi-Bo-Gam. The research mainly depended on compare and consider these original text and quote. In Pyong Yeol Byong chapter of SoMoon, Su Yeol Hyul chapter of SoMoon, Pyong Yin Ki Sang chapter of SoMoon, Ja Jeol Jin Sae chapter of YoungChu, Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine(黃帝內經;ECIM), We were able to find that some sentences about edema were quoted. Drug arrangement order that construct herb medicine is disposed depends on drug's weight, and all unit was concorded by Jeon and Pun. Quoted words in Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine(黃帝內經;ECIM) does not perfectly match with original text. However, edema chapter of Dong- Yi-Bo-Gam is identical with original text, because only few words were deleted or inserted.

Objectives : This report describes the original references of 154 formulas related to the use of Rhei Rhizoma main blended from Dongeuibogam. Methods : This study analyzes the original references of 154 formulas including Rhei Rhizoma as a key component in Dongeuibogam. Results : There were five types as follows: 1.There is no exact match between 154 formulas in Dongeuibogam and the original formulas in references. 2. Case that could not found the original formula in reference: 22%. 3. Case that the citation is the similar to the original reference: 4%. 4. Case that the citation is not same to expression but contents basically: 73%. 5. Case of addition of content: 1% Conclusions : Most formulas related to the use of Rhei Rhizoma main blended from Dongeuibogam are similar to the contents in the original references. But we can find that Heo Jun, who writes Dongeuibogam, modifies the contents for his intention of editing, idea and situation in Korea.

To develop a new form of controlled release dosage for administering for indomethacin (IND), two formulations of IND-loaded nanoparticles were designed based on polysaccharide (guar) derivatives. Nanoparticles prepared by the dialysis method were characterized with respect to morphology, size distribution, drug content, and in vitro drug release. Morphological studies by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that guar acetate (GA) nanoparticles were spherical in shape and had a smooth surface. The particle size distributions of formulation I (40mg of GA) and formulation II (80mg of GA) were shown to be $250.78\pm185.13nm$ and $718\pm145.90nm$ in distilled water ($20$^{\circ}C$), respectively. The drug loading efficiencies of nanoparticles were approximately 26% and 31% for formulations I and II, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicated that the IND was perfectly distributed within GA nanoparticles. We also found, from the X-ray diffractometry analysis, that a decrease in the degree of crystallinity of the drug occurred in the nanoparticles. No changes between the original IND and the released IND from GA nanoparticles were detected by FT-IR. Using guar acetate, it is possible to design nanoparticles which allow the controlled release of IND over an extended period of time.
