The purpose of this study is to report a patient with pleural effusion improved by oriental medical treatment. The patient was treated with Bokryunghaengingamcho-tang and acupunture. We measured pleural effusion by Chest CT, twice a month. Pleural effusion decreased in Chest CT after oriental medical treatment. This study suggests that Bokryunghaengingamcho-tang is effective in pleural effusion.

UL-syndrome(鬱證) is a syndrome of emotional depression and various physical symptoms generally due to chronic psychological stress, without constitutional abnormality. These are cases of female patients suffering from headache, chest discomfort, heart burning, insomnia, dyspepsia, anorexia, fatigue and some other minor symptoms due to chronic stress. We diagnosed these cases as UL-syndrome and treated them with oriental medicine, specifically Gamisoyosan(加味逍遙散). This paper describes the symptoms that the patients suffered, the treatment used, and identifies stages in the development of UL-syndrome, and suggests a stage in which Gamisoyosan is efficacious.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of oriental medicine and acupuncture therapy on a chronic renal failure patient suffering complications from diabetes mellitus. Methods: The clinical data was analyzed on a patient with chronic renal failure complicated by diabetes mellitus whose main symptoms were edema and numbness of lower limbs, anorexia, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and general weakness. The patient was admitted to the internal medicine department of Wonkwang University Oriental Jeonju Medicine Hospital on July 31, 2004, and remained until August 17, 2004. He was treated with herbal medicine(Palmijiwhangtanggamibang) and acupuncture therapy. Results: After treatment, improvement was seen in symptoms and laboratory examinations(creatinine clearance). Conclusions: This study suggests that oriental medicine therapy is significantly effective in the treatment of a chronic renal failure complicated by diabetes mellitus.

Schizophrenia is a disturbance condition that lasts for at least 6 months and includes at least 1 month of active-phase symptoms(i.e., two [or more] of the following : delusions, hallucinations. disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, negative symptoms) In this study, we report one case of schizophrenia with acute cerebral infarction. The patient has been diagnosed with schizophrenia more than 20 years ago, and after this recent cerebral infarction, all of her schizophrenic symptoms such as auditory hallucination, delirium, depression, insomnia were aggravated. Her schizophrenic symptoms, PANSS and NIHSS total scores were considerably reduced after oriental treatment(Guibi-tang(歸脾湯)), so we report this as a potential treatment.

Caroli's disease is a non-obstructive dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts. It is a rare congenital disorder that classically causes saccular ductal dilatation, which usually it segmental dilatation. Caroli's disease is associated with recurrent bacterial cholangitis and stone formation. A 57 years-old female inpatient suffering from cholangitis due to Caroli's disease was admitted at Wonkwang University Jeonju Oriental Medicine Hospital. The patient was treated with herbal medicine such as Yongdamsagan-tang and acupuncture. As result, there was improvement of symptoms. The process and content of treatment and the patient's recovery over general symptoms is described.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of direct moxibustion on nocturia. Methods: Thirty-one nocturia patients were treated with direct moxibustion. Results: After the treatments, the numbers of nocturia incidences were reduced. Conclusions: Direct moxibustion might be effective as a treatment for nocturia.

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is caused by infection of herpes zoster and associated with otalgia, herpetic eruptions, facial palsy, trigerminal pain and cochleovestibular dysfunction such as deafness, tinnitus, vertigo and so on. A 60-year old female, who has tinnitus, peripheral facial palsy, deafness, vertigo, postauricular pain and herpetic eschar, had been admitted to Wonkwang University Oriental Jeonju Medicine Hospital. We treated this patient with Daehwangchijahwangbaeg-byung and Yongdamsagantang-gami, and the patients showed improvement in the symptoms. So we describe the process and contents about the way the patient was cured.

Objectives : The propose of this study is to find out the clinical application of conservative treatment to the patient who has Lumbar incomplete burst fracture. Methods : We examined 1 patient with lumbar burst fracture who admitted Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine. Results : In this study, the patient showed a certain degree of improvement in gait disturbance. Low back and leg pain were also reduced significantly after conservative oriental medical treatment. Conclusions : Conservative oriental medical treatment can be effective for improving symptoms of Lumbar incomplete burst fracture, decreasing pain.

Objective: The aim of this case report was to describe the effects of traditional Korean medicine on a patient suffering from central dizziness caused by a lateral medullary infarction Methods: The patient was given a series of Korean medicine therapy treatments, including Jeseubsungi-tang, acupuncture, and cupping, for 37 days. We measured the progress of this case using a numerical rating scale (NRS). Results: After the treatment, the NRS score for dizziness decreased, and the headache almost completely subsided. Conclusions: This clinical case study indicated that Jeseubsungi-tang could be effective in relieving central dizziness and headache caused by lateral medullary infarction.

Objectives : The purpose of this case series is to investigate and report the effectiveness of oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment for supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis. Methods : 4 patients are admitted at Dept. of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine, Bu-Cheon Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, diagnosed as supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis and treated with oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture. Each case is measured and assessed daily by NRS(Numeric Rating Scale) score and shoulder physical exam. Results : After treatment, patients' shoulder pain are decreased and they showed nearly full ROM(range of movement). In patients with supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis, oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta is good method for pain relief and better movement. Conclusions : As seen in these 4 cases of supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis, oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture appears to be effective.
