1. Objectives To evaluate effectiveness of one hundred thirty kinds of pharmacopuncture made of herbs used in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods We searched at fifteen kinds of Korean oriental medical journals websites and four kinds of Korean oriental medicine databases. '약침', '수침', 'pharmacopuncture', 'aqua acupuncture' and 'herbal acupuncture' were keywords. Searching period was March to April 2010. 3. Results One hundred eighty three articles are searched. And these are the results. 1) A lot of Soeum herb pharmacopunctures are effective in anti-tumor, brain damage, rheumatoid arthritis. 2) A lot of Soyang herb pharmacopunctures are effective in kidney injury, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis. 3) A lot of Taeeum herb pharmacopunctures are effective in obesity, asthma, anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, rheumatoid arthritis. 4) Taeyang herb pharmacopunctures are effective in rheumatoid arthritis, amyotrophia. 4. Conclusions There was similar effectiveness between oral administration and pharmacopuncture in Sasang Constitutional herbs. It suggest that pharmacopuncture could be used for Sasang constitutional disease and symptoms. Well-designed clinical studies for Sasang constitutional pharmacopuncture are needed.

Objectives: Liver function tests are used as screening tests for liver injuries, but their inaccuracy on positive predictive values can result in numerous false positive results. We investigated the incidence of liver function test abnormalities of patients who came to an oriental medicine hospital, in order to present a practical way to rule out false positive results for other studies designed to investigate the safety of Korean herb medicine. Methods: We analyzed the medical records and liver function test results proceeded at admission of all in-patients admitted to Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, from July 2008 to June 2009. Results: Among 1,117 inpatients, 941 executed liver function tests on admission, and 40 were excluded due to their diagnosed liver disease. 747 (82.9%) of 901 enrolled patients were within the normal range of all liver function tests, and 140 (15.5%) and 14 (1.6%) were classified as "abnormalities of liver tests" and "liver injury" respectively, according to the CIOMS (Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences) criteria. Conclusions: According to the results, among the outcomes of liver function tests proceeded among the patients admitted to the oriental medicine hospital, excluding who were diagnosed with liver disease, 17.1% showed abnormality. This means simple liver function test results are not sufficient in determining liver toxicity of Korean herb medicine (KHM).

1. The external treatment of sprain and strain using the herb used adhesive(貼敷), using soaking in medicinal smoke to focuses and rinsing methods(熏洗), rubbing(擦擦) and hot compression(熱熨). 2. In the external treatment of sprain and strain using the herb, Adhesive(貼敷) is used most. Because Adhesive(貼敷) brings fast reactions, has less side effects, and can control the processing time. 3. The effects of herbs used in this external treatment are almost the same as oral herb-medicines such as, promoting blood flow to remove blood stasis(活血化瘀), relieving rheumatic conditions(祛風濕), and removing obstruction in meridians and collaterals(通經絡).

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effect of herb medicine (Samryungbeakchul-sangami) on chronic renal disease. Methods : 8 patients diagnosed with chronic renal disease were enrolled in this study. They were treated with herb medicine (Samryungbeakchul-san gami) therapy. To evaluate the therapeutic effect, before and after treatment, we measured laboratory examinations: BUN, creatinine, glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Results : After treatment, improvement was seen in symptoms and in BUN, creatinine and GFR. Conclusions : This study suggests that herb medicine (Samryungbeakchul-san gami) is significantly effective in treating chronic renal disease.

Objectives : To direct methods of management and development of herbs and their derived products, and at the end of this study to inform the process of making new herbal drug regulations in Korea. Methods : This study analyzed the regulations and laws of western medicine drugs. Results : We have got some herbal prescriptions which are not in the eleven books of oriental medicine now in use but which have proved effective. We need to establish standards for permissions to produce medical products through those prescriptions. Besides, we need the special permissions to produce herbal products through prescriptions, especially those which have been used to treat incurable diseases. And, we can contribute to globalization of oriental medicine and to well situating of herb products and medicinal acupunctures if we produce them according to international standards. It is thought that herbal medicine has no side effect in the medical society in Korea. But, it is getting popular to administer herbal medicine and western medicine together. Thus, the side effects of taking both medicines at the same time should be documented. Conclusions : Herbal medicines and herbal products should be under the control over the whole process of production, circulation, and sales. Now, it is time for herbal medicine to be known to all over the world. Therefore, herbal medicine must meet and adhere to the standards set by the western society and WHO.

Objectives : This study is to report three cases of the paralytic strabismus by acupuncture and herb medicine. Methods & Results : All patient were treated with Acupuncture and herb medicine, and the symptoms were resolved in 2 cases by above treatment during about 10 weeks. Conclusion : The cases showed proper oriental medical treatment based on the exact differentiation of symptoms had good effect on this disease as one of conservative therapies.

Objective : In order to study effects of ${\lceil}Persicae\;Semen{\rfloor}$ on the hyperlipidemia rats induced by Triton WR, we have made hyperlipidemia rats by administering Triton WR-1339 for 3 days, then have administered. The results were summerized as follows : 1. The Total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, Free fatty acid, phospholipid and CRF(Cardiak Risk Factor) by hypercholesteremic rats injected by Triton WR-1339 of the herb-Acupuncture group were decreased as compared with those of the control group, especialy hypercholesteremic rats injected by Triton WR- 1339 of the herb-Acupuncture+Acupuncture group were some more decreased as compared with those of the control group. 2. The HDL-cholesterol by hypercholesteremic rats injected by Trion WR -1339 of the herb-Acupuncture group were increased as compeared those of control group, especialy hypercholesteremic rats injected by Triton WR-1339 of the herb-Acupuncture+Acupuncture group were some more increased as compared with those of the control group. According to the above results, Persicae Semen showed inhibition on decrease of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and phosholipid contents as well as inhibition on increase of HDL-cholesterol contents in hyperlipidemia.

This study was done in order to investigate Oriental Medicine's meaning on stress, the stress is due to animal experiments.Methods:This research was done by animal experiments's results based on 41 animal experiment treatises carried out by 24 prescriptions about stress control. Each experiments were compared with same conditions, minimizing the experiments differences. The results were analyzed by p-value and Increas e·Decrease percentage of experiments result's numerical value. Results:1. Inquire into frequency in use of each stress stimulus and measuring items, the restriction stimulus stress and measuring the content of catecholamines are numerous.2. Significance of stress stimuluses based on experments's results is good by restriction stimulus.3. Oriental Medicine's meaning for stress is pathological phenomenon of Seven Emotion(七情). Stagnant the Energy(氣鬱), the Fire(火), Dam(痰), Lack of the general Blood thing(血虛), and reaction of an individual body.4. Inguire into the effects of frequency in use of experiments's Herb drugs, Herb Drugs of Tonifing the general Blood thing depend on stabilized Mind(補血安神), Circulated the Energy and Digest(理氣消導), Tonifing the general Blood thing(補血), Clearing the Mind(淸心), Removing the Dam(祛痰) are numerous.5. From a Sasang Medical point of view, experimental use of Herb Drugs are Soeum-in(少陰人) Herb Drugs are numerous.According to above results, it is considered that Herb Drugs of Tonifing the general Blood thing depend on stabilized Mind(補血安神), Circulated the Energy and Digest(理氣消導), Tonifing the general Blood thing(補血), Clearing the Mind(淸心), Removing the Dam(祛淡), and Soeum-in(少陰人) Herb Drugs are used to prevent stress and related diseases.

Objectives : This study is designed to find out the improvement of eyelid ptosis and eyeball movement trouble caused by idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy after diagnosing the patient to Ghan-shil (肝實), Bee, Shin-hur(脾腎虛) and treating the patient with acupuncture and herb medicine. Methods & Results : The changes in clinical symptoms of eyelid ptosis and eyeball movement trouble were described as the patient was treated with acupuncture therapy and herb medicine, Shae-ghan-san gagam(洗肝散加減) and Yukmi-jihwang-tang gagam(六味地黃湯加減). Conclusions : The patient was treated by acupuncture, herb medicine on idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy for 6 weeks and showed good effect.
