  • The genus Peloribates is comparatively species rich and distributed worldwide. More than 90 species have been assigned to this genus, but three species were reported in Korea. We recovered a new species, Peloribates barbatus Aoki, 1977 to Korean inventory in the family Haplozetidae (Acari: Oribatida) from the straw mat covering the cherry trees. This species was originally reported as inhabiting in lichens growing on tombstones in Japan. In this paper, we present a comparative account of morphological description of the species with other three congeneric species in Korea.

  • From the soil biodiversity study, we found a species, Phauloppia lucorum (C.L. Koch, 1841) in the family of Oribatulidae (Acari: Oribatida) from the straw mat covering the cherry trees during winter in 2011. This species inhabiting litter and soil of forest, moss and lichens on tree and stones is distributed in the eastern Asia and western and central parts of Europe. In this paper, we illustrate the diagnostic features of a new species with detailed diagrammatic representations and its geographical distribution.

  • 32 mite species are listed from the Korean Peninsula. One species belongs to the order Prostigmata, family Cryptognathidae, the order Mesostigmata has 20 species and the order Oribatida contains 11 species. Four species from the listed 32 are new for the fauna of the Korean Peninsula, one species belongs to the order Prostigmata (Favognathus maritimus (Shiba, 1969)) and three new species are Oribatida [Camisia biurus (Koch, 1839), Camisia biverrucata (Koch, 1839), Camisia horrida (Hermann, 1804)]. The 28 of the found species are collected in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; the others were collected in the area of Republic of Korea. Illustrations and short descriptions about the newly found and rarely collected species are given.

  • This paper deals with a new genus, Mainothrus gen. n., and a new species, M. aquaticus sp. n., belonging to Trhypochthoniidae Willmann, 1931 from Korea. The key characters of the new genus distinguishable from other genera of Trhypochthoniidae are 1) six pairs of genital setae, 2) two pairs of anal setae, 3) fifteen pairs of notogastral setae, and 4) epimeral setal formula; 3-1-3-2.

  • An oribatid mite, Incabates barbatus sp. nov. in the family Haplozetidae is described herein from Korea. This new species is very similar to 1. major reported in Japan. However, prodorsal setae (ro & la) and head of sensillus are smooth in 1. major while barbs are found on the outer margin in the middle of rostral seta (ro) and lamellar seta (la) in addition to the presence of spinulae making the surface of head of sensillus rough in the new species. There are altogether 9 species described in the genus Incubates at present including the new species reported herein and keys to these 9 species are presented.
