RO막을 이용한 매립지 침출수 처리 및 붕소 제거 (Landfill Leachate Treatment and Boron Removal by Reverse Osmosis)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the removal rate of organic and inorganic matters from landfill leachate using pre-treatment process as coagulation and limonite adsorption, and membrane process as RO (reverse osmosis) and NF(nanofiltration). By adding limonite adsorption as pre-treatment process, about 40% of organic matters in leachate was removed through pre-treatment process and 74.7% of boron was removed after RO process without pH adjustment. The rejection rate of boron in RO process mainly depends on the pH and increased at pH value of 10. RO process was performed as two stage system adjusting pH condtion to 7 and 10 in second RO stage for boron removal. Most (>90%) of TOC, Cl- and inorganic matters as Ca was rejected in first RO stage, the residue was rejected in second RO and the rejection rate was above 97%. Considering economic efficiency of operation cost, NF substituted for the first RO and total removal rate of TOC was above 90%. Through RO system toxicity to Daphnia in leachate was removed completely.

낙동·고령 중권역의 표층 퇴적물 입도 조성 및 유기물질 분포 특성 변화 (The Distribution Characteristics of Grain Size and Organic Matters of Surface Sediments from the Nakdong-Goryeong Mid-watershed)

  • To investigate the distribution characteristics of grain size and organic matter of surface sediments from the Nakdong-Goryeong Mid-watershed, surface sediments were collected and analyzed. The samples were collected from six sited at four different times between May 2013 and May 2014. The were analyzed for grain size, water content, ignition loss, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon and total nitrogen. The surface sediments were mainly composed of medium sand (mean 44.7%) and coarse sand (mean 32.8%) and became coarser in May 2014. Fine sediments at the site NG-2 were poorly sorted and positively skewed, and occur in a tributary environment that is relatively low-energy compared with the other sites. The water content at the studied sites (15.3 ~ 34.9%) averaged 20.25%, and ignition loss (0.4 ~ 5.8%) and total nitrogen (274 ~ 2493 mg/kg) averaged 1.33% and, 696 mg/kg, respectively. These values indicated that the sediments were not seriously contaminated when compared with the sediment pollution evaluation standard of the National Institute of Environmental Research. The chemical oxygen demand (mean 0.17%) was at the non-polluted level compared with United States Environmental Protection Agency sediment quality standards. The total organic carbon (mean 0.18%) at all sites except site NG-2 (lowest effect level) was the no effect level of the Ontario sediment quality guidelines. The COD/IL (0.02 ~ 0.20) and C/N (0.73 ~ 6.76) were less than 1 and 10, respectively. Organic matter in the study area produced naturally from aquatic organisms. Results of principal component analysis showed that fine sediments (very fine sand and silt) were significantly affected by organic matters (ignition loss, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon and total nitrogen). In addition, the highest organic matters content in the study area occurred at the site with the finest sediments (NG-2).

연안 조간대에 표착된 기름이 입자상 물질의 토양침투에 미치는 영향의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Effect of Stranded Oil on the Penetration of Particulate Matters in Tidal Flat)

  • 본 연구에서는 파도에너지가 비교적 작은 폐쇄성수역의 사질 조간대를 대상으로 하여 입자상 물질의 토양 침투거동을 파악하고, 유출된 기름의 조간대 사면표착이 입자상 물질의 토양침투 차단 여부를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 하여 모의 조간대 실험장치를 이용하여 실험을 하였다. 폐쇄성 수역과 같은 파도에너지가 작은 조간대에서는 쇄파대에서 붕괴된 파도에 의해서 입자상물질이 orbital 운동을 하면서 반원형태의 침투거동 (semi-circular penetration behavior)을 보였다. 또한 사면의 구배와 쇄파파고의 증가에 따라서 입자상물질의 침투속도도 증가하였다. 조석에 의해서는 토양중 해수의 이동방향과 동일한 방향으로 $45^{\circ}$ 각도를 이루며 토양중으로 침투하였다. 유출된 기름이 토양사면에 표착됨으로 인해 형성된 점착성의 유막은 입자상 물질의 토양침투를 차단하였으며, 이로인해 해수중의 식물성 플랑크톤, 세균, 유기쇄설물과 같은 입자상물질의 침투를 방해하여 조간대에 서식하는 저서생물의 먹이 공급을 감소시켜 연안 생태계에 악영향을 미칠것으로 판단된다.

낙동강의 용존 유기물질 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the characterization of dissolved organic matters in Nakdong River)

  • Changes in the characteristics of dissolved organic matter was studied at selected stations in the Nakdong river basin using physical and chemical methods. Characteristics of dissolved organic matters were analysed and assessed. Production of disinfection byproducts were also investigated. 1. Result of relatedness study among each items of analyses showed that relatedness on BOD values were highest with cattle excrement treatment facilities where there is no synthetic organic materials and relatedness on $COD_{Mn}$ were highest at the mainstream Nakdong river. In case of $COD_{Cr}$ (which has more oxidative power than $COD_{Mn}$), the values were higher in the sidestreams indicating the higher content of recalcitrant compounds. The relatedness values for the $UV_{254}$ also showed higher values in the sidestreams and treatment facilities than mainstream indicating the presence of organic aromatic compounds. 2. Ratio of DOC on total organic carbon were higher in the mainstream which is attributable to the influent particulate organic materials produced by agricultural activities. The values were 10-15% higher in the mainstream compared with sidestreams. 3. Result of biodegradability test indicate that concentrations of recalcitrant DOC were higher in the sidestreams than in the mainstream. The values of recalcitrant DOC were higher with the forest stream indicating the effect of soil oriented humic substances. 4. Result of THM production test carried out at 10 stations in the Nakdong river show that $CHCl_3$ was detected with the highest value and the value was highest at Waekwan station.

잣나무엽(葉)의 초기(初期) 분해과정(分解過程)에 있어서 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素) 및 CO2 방출속도(放出速度)의 변화(變化) (Changes of Inorganic Nitrogen and CO2 Evolution Rate on the Decomposition Process of Korean White Pine Needles)

  • 잣나무의 녹엽(綠葉), 낙엽(落葉), F층(層)의 엽(葉)과 떡갈 및 굴참나무의 녹엽(綠葉)을 각각 토양(土壤)에 혼합(混合)하여 53일간 $30^{\circ}C({\pm}1)$로 항온배양(恒温培養)하는 동안 토양중(土壤中)의 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素) 및 $CO_2$ 방출속도(放出速度)의 변화(變化)를 측정(測定)하여 다음의 결과(結果)를 얻었다. 1) 배양초기(培養初期)에는 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素)의 유기화(有機化)로 무기태(無機態) 질소량(窒素量)의 감소(減少)가 강(強)하게 일어났고, 시간(時間)의 경과(經過)에 따라 점차 증가(增加) 하였다. 2) 혼합(混合)한 엽중(葉中)의 유기태(有機態) 질소(窒素)의 유기화속도(有機化速度)는 잣나무의 엽중(葉中) 녹엽(綠葉)에서 가장 컸으나, 굴참 및 떡갈나무의 녹엽(綠葉)보다는 작았다. 3) $CO_2$ 방출속도(放出速度)의 크기는 굴참나무녹엽(綠葉), 떡갈나무녹엽(綠葉), 잣나무녹엽(綠葉), 잣나무 낙엽(落葉), F층(層)의 잣나무엽(葉)을 혼합(混合)한 토양(土壤)의 순(順)이었고, 시간의 경과(經過)에 따라 점차 감소했다. 4) 질산태(窒酸態) 질소량(窒素量)은 점차 증가(增加)하여 배양(培養) 53일 후에, 암모니아태(態應) 질소량(窒素量)을 상회(上迴)하였다.

낙동강 수계 내 하수처리 방류수가 하류 하천 유기물에 미치는 영향: 부하량 비교 (Effects of Sewage Effluent on Organic Matters of Nakdong River: Comparison of Daily Loading)

  • 본 연구는 하수처리장 방류수가 하천 유기물 오염에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 구미시 관내에 위치한 구미 4단지, 구미, 구미 원평하수처리장 방류수와 처리장 상 하류 하천을 조사하였다. TOC 중 DOC가 70% 이상으로 대부분 용존성으로 존재하였고, TOC에 대한 BOD, $COD_{Mn}$의 산화율은 각각 13~43%, 37~73%로 나타났다. 하지만 현재 사용되고 있는 BOD, $COD_{Mn}$이 총 유기탄소에서 차지하는 비율이 약 50% 이하로 나타나, 유기물을 대표하는 데 어려움이 있을 것으로 보이며, 향후 TOC로 지표를 전환하는 방향도 모색해 보아야 할 것으로 판단된다. DOC 분해실험 결과 DOC 중 R-DOC가 70% 이상으로 난분해성 유기물이 대부분을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 하수처리장 방류수의 유기물이 하천에 미치는 영향을 보면, 낙동강 하류에서 구미 4단지, 구미, 구미 원평하수처리장 방류수의 총 TOC 부하량이 차지하는 비율은 15%로 나타났다. 총 비율은 15%로 비교적 많은 부분을 차지하지는 않았지만 이 중 생분해성 유기물보다 난분해성 유기물이 더 많은 부분을 차지하는 것으로 나타나, 상수 처리 시 소독부산물의 전구물질이 증가하는 원인으로 작용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

활성탄 공정과 생물여과 공정에서의 자연유기물질 제거특성 (Removal Characteristics of Natural Organic Matters in Activated Carbon and Biofiltration Process)

  • 입상활성탄 및 생물여과 공정에서 활성탄 종류별 DOC(dissolved organic carbon) 흡착능은 석탄계가 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났고, 다음으로 야자계, 목탄계 순으로 조사되었으며, 활성탄 종류별 부착 미생물의 생체량과 활성도는 석탄계에서 가장 높게 나타났으며, 다음으로 목탄계, 야자계, 안트라사이트 순으로 나타났다. 안트라사이트를 이용한 생물여과 공정에서 OM(natural organic matters)의 생분해율은 15분 이상의 EBCT(empty bed contact time)가 주어져야 bed volume에 따라 평균 $10\sim17%$, 최대 $18\sim24%$ 정도의 생분해율을 얻을 수 있었다. NOM의 활성탄 흡착은 주로 친수성 보다 소수성 유기물질과 10,000 Da 이하의 유기물질의 제거가 용이하였으며 HAA5FP(haloacetic acid 5 formation potential) 보다 THMFP(trihalomethane formation potential), BDOC(biodegradable dissolved organic carbon)$_{rapid}$ 보다는 $BDOC_{slow}$의 제거가 용이한 것으로 조사되었다. 생물여과 공정에 의한 유기물질 제거 특성은 주로 친수성과 1,000 Da 이하의 유기물질 제거가 용이하였으며, THMFP 보다는 HAASFP, $BDOC_{slow}$ 보다는 $BDOC_{rapid}$의 제거가 용이한 것으로 조사되었다.

  • Raverase osmosis or ultrafiltration systems have generally been regarded as hard to validate about WFI production. Though the Japanese and US Pharmacopoeias have allowed distillation and RO to be applied to WFI production process, only water stills, especially multiple effects have practically been employed for parenteral water production. On the other hand, the latest analysis has shown that even distillate contains such volatile organic matters as trihalomethanes and traces of heavy metals at a little higher concentration than supposed. The JP requires TOC to be monitored in WFI process based on RO or UF systems to control the concentration below 300ppb, but very few monographs or papers have so far been published about the concentrations of organic volatile matters in distillate. (See table 1-1) Therefore, this paper proposes a new applicable WFI systems based on the result of purified water analysis with some membranes used in the process. A well combined membrane system with other units could be expected to provide less amount of impurities in membrane-treated water than in distillate.

Prokaryotic Diversity in Korean Tidal Flats

  • The tidal flat of Korea is one of the most dynamic areas in terms of sediment erosion and deposition. Tidal flats provide important food resources, ecological niche for diverse organisms and have functional role of bioremediation by mineralizing organic matters. Generally, microbes are essential constituent for biochemical transformations, such as mineralization of organic matters and biodegradation of pollutants. Understanding microbes in tidal flat sediment is necessary to understand these processes. In order to understand role of microbes in tidal flat, this study investigated prokaryotic communities by several methods such as clone library, DGGE, and pyrosequencing. In addition, quantification of microorganisms and isolation biodegrading bacteria were investigated in tidal flats of Western Coast.

  • Runoff characteristics of organic matters and nutrients from greenhouse site in paddy field area were investigated during the irrigation period in 2004. The greenhouse selected which situated near the Nam river, Jinju, Korea used the ground water as the irrigation purpose. And, the rotating system of paddy field to upland was adapted as a cropping system which is a typical practice in this area. Various items such as total phosphorus(T-P), total nitrogen(T-N), dissolved oxygen(DO), BOD, etc. were observed to figure out the seasonal and spatial variation in the study sites. it was found that the risk of water pollution due to the contamination of nutrients in canals in green house sites, and their neighbouring small sized streams are much higher than those in ordinary paddy field areas. Further surveys and investigations are required to find out the counter measures to reduce water pollution occurred in greenhouse sites.
