  • In this paper, we obtain the restricted maximum likelihood estimators (RMLE's) for means in normal distributions with the ordered mean constraints. The biases and mean squared errors (MSE's) of these RMLE's are approximated by Mote Carlo methods. In every case a substantial savings in MSE is obtained at the expense of a small loss in bias when using RMLE's instead of the unrestricted MLE's.

  • Lindsay (1994) and Basu et al (1997) show that another density-based distance called the negative exponential disparity (NED) is an excellent competitor to the Hellinger distance (HD) in generating an asymptotically fully efficient and robust estimator. Bhattacharya and Basu (1996) consider estimation of the locations of several normal populations when an order relation between them is known to be true. They empirically show that the robust HD based weighted likelihood estimators compare favorably with the M-estimators based on Huber's $\psi$ function, the Gastworth estimator, and the trimmed mean estimator. In this paper we investigate the performance of the weighted likelihood estimator based on the NED as a robust alternative relative to that based on the HD. The NED based estimator is found to be quite competitive in the settings considered by Bhattacharya and Basu.

  • The changes of mental activities and the normal life during the pregnancy have a direct and indirect influences not only on the maternal health but also on the physiological function of the fetus. In the oriental medicine, many attentions have been ordered during the pregnancy. And they called these attentions and managements during the pregnancy as 'Tia-jiao(胎敎)'. The Tia-jiao, that is the prenatal culture, means 'educations for the fetus', so it is a hygienic conception for the pregnacy and the delivery. About this, many oriental gynecologic texts contained various contents such as the prohibitions against food(Shi-ji 食忌), the attentions on the mental activities(Yang-xing-ging 養性情), the notions on the normal life(Qi-ju-ji 起居忌), the cautions against drugs(Yao-ji 藥忌), the instructions for the treatments, the preventions against abortion(Gu-tia-liang-fa 固胎良法). The Tai-jiao can be divided two categories. The one is the behaviors and mental attitudes which can induce the good characters, and the other is the intake of foods and drugs which can grow the healthy body. According to the transitions of the generation, the economies, the societies, and the cultures have been changed. Through the pursuits of the intelligent babies have been remained, all conceptions and recognitions have also been altered. Therefore the ways to the prenatal culture must be changed, The reviewing the old and learning now, and doing the appropriate Tia-jiao in the modern times may be the best way to get the good babies.

  • In this paper, an adjustable multiple relay selection (MRS) scheme for cooperative communication with amplify-and-forward (AF) relay under frequency selective channels is proposed. In the proposed scheme, the relays are ordered firstly by the steady-state mean square error (MSE), then the relays are sequentially selected out from N relays and the number of cooperating relays is adjusted dynamically according to the steady-state mean square joint error (MSJE). The aim of this work is to dynamically estimate the optimum number No of cooperating relays. Optimum means the minimum number of cooperating relays, No, achieving the minimum level of steady-state MSJE. Numerical results verify the analyses and show that the scheme can adaptively adjust the number of cooperating relays, and outperform conventional relay selection schemes. Hence, the proposed scheme provides better tradeoff between BER performance and spectral efficiency and to save more energy in cooperative wireless networks.

  • The fire protective coating can reduce certain damages in case of fire, also conserve energy by thermal insulation and prevent corrosion and errosion in normal daily life by means of blocking thermal transfer, that were generally made of organic, inorganic and metallic materials as adiabatic coating. In case of inorganic material such as soluble silicate, it produces less toxic substances which are exposed to Ore, and have a plenty of raw material. Also inorganic thermal insulator is good in heat resistance. To develope such a excellent inorganic thermal insulator, the study of fire protective coating using the alkali silicate is necessary The principle of intumescence for alkali silicate is from rapid evolution of water in the coating material, the quantity of water in it is of course influenced on the degree of intumescence. The phenomenon of intumescence in ternary silicate is increased as the radius of ion is bigger, and this is caused by evolution of so many kinds of water. The individual degree of intumescence is ordered like this ; $K^+$ > $Na^+$ > $Li^+$ . The best protection effect is similarity found to intumescence of ternary silicate. The result of X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that $KHSi_2O_5$ is an important ingredient in K-silicate.

  • Surface structure and molecular orientation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the spontaneous adsorption of tetrahydrothiophene (THT) and thiophene (TP) on Au(111) were investigated by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and carbon K-edge near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. STM imaging revealed that THT SAMs have a commensurate (3 ${\times}\;2\sqrt[]{3}$) structure containing structural defects in ordered domains, whereas TP SAMs are composed of randomly adsorbed domains and paired molecular row domains that can be described as an incommensurate packing structure. The NEXAFS spectroscopy study showed that the average tilt angle of the aliphatic THT ring and $\pi$-conjugated TP ring in the SAMs were calculated to be about $30^o\;and\;40^o$, respectively, from the surface normal. It was also observed that the $\pi$* transition peak in the NEXAFS spectrum of the TP SAMs is very weak, suggesting that a strong interaction between $\pi$-electrons and the Au surface arises during the self-assembly of TP molecules. In this study, we have clearly demonstrated that the surface structure and adsorption orientation of organic SAMs on Au(111) are strongly influenced by whether the cyclic ring is saturated or unsaturated.

  • Ameloblastoma is the most commonly occurring odontogenic tumor in oral cavity. Although most are benign epithelial neoplasm, they are generally considered to be locally aggressive and destructive, exhibiting a high rate of recurrence. The biological behavior of this neoplasm is a slowly growing, locally invasive tumor without metastasis, therefore malignant neoplasm, changed its histological appearance to carcinoma or showed distant metastasis, is only defined clinically. In this study, we identified the differentially expressed genes(DEGs) in stages under benign or malignant ameloblastoma compared with normal patient using ordered differential display(ODD) reverse transcription(RT)-PCR and $GeneFishing^{TM}$ technology. ODD RT-PCR is rather effective when the investigation of samples containing very small amounts of total RNA must be accomplished. ODD RT-PCR used the means of amplification with anchored T-primer and adaptor specific primer. bearing definite two bases at their 3' ends and so this method could display differential 3'-expressed sequence taqs(ESTs) patterns without using full-length cDNAs. Compared with standard differential display, ODD RT-PCR is more simple and have enough sensitivity to search for molecular markers by comparing gene expression profiles, However, this method required much effort and skill to perform. $GeneFishing^{TM}$ modified from DD-PCR is an improved method for detecting differentially expressed genes in two or more related samples. This two step RT-PCR method uses a constant reverse primer(anchor ACP-T) to prime the RT reaction and arbitrary primer pairs(annealing control primers, ACPs) during PCR. Because of high annealing specificity of ACPs than ODD RT-PCR, the application of $GeneFishing^{TM}$ to DEG discovery generates reproducible, authentic, and long(100bp to 2kb) PCR products that are detectable on agarose gels. Consequently, various DEGs observed differential expression levels on agarose gels were isolated from normal, benign, and malignant tissues using these methods. The expression patterns of the some isolated DEGs through ODD RT-PCR and $GeneFishing^{TM}$ were confirmed by Northern blot analysis and RT-PCR. The results showed that these identified DEGs were implicated in ameloblastoma neoplasm processes. Therefore, the identified DEGs will be further studied in order to be applied in candidate selection for marker as an early diagnosis during ameloblastoma neoplasm processes.
