The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between female characteristics, chronic diseases and oral health behavior, and the effects of each factor on periodontal diseases. There were statistically significant differences in age(p<0.001), education level(p<0.001), income(p<0.05), marital status(p<0.001), smokes(p<0.05) and pregnancy(p<0.001). Chronic disease factors showed statistically significant differences in hypertension(p<0.001), obesity(p<0.001), diabetes(p<0.001), hypercholesterolemia(p<0.05), hypocholesterolemia(p<0.001) and hypertriglyceridemia(p<0.001). Oral health behaviors were statistically significant in terms of toothache(p<0.05), orthodontic treatment(p<0.05) and chew discomfort(p<0.05). As a result of examining the risk factors affecting periodontal disease, the risk of chronic disease was 1.576 times higher in the obese group, and 2.569 times higher in the diabetic group than in the normal group. The subjective oral health status was 1.372 times higher for normal women and 1.614 times higher for bad women than for good ones. As a result, diabetes has shown the greatest risk among chronic diseases in women, and diabetes and obesity are highly relevant and therefore are considered important variables for the risk factors of dementia. In this regard, it is necessary to examine the risks of chronic and periodical diseases, expand oral health education programs for women's dental disease, and prepare oral health policies.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify factors related to unmet dental care needs among Korean youth, enhance the utilization of dental services by adolescents, furnish basic data for youth-oriented dental projects, and improve access to medical care. Methods: The analysis utilized combined data from the basic and oral databases from the 6th (2013-2015), 7th (2016-2018), and 1st year of the 8th (2019) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Results: The factors influencing unmet dental care needs were gender, age, household income level, and health insurance. Statistically significant results were observed in relation to the type of dental clinic, recent visits to a dental hospital, experiences of toothache within the past year, subjective oral health status, occurrences of permanent dental caries, and engagement in orthodontic treatment. Conclusions: When formulating future national policies and projects, it is imperative to consider the factors and underlying reasons for the unmet dental care needs of adolescents. It is also necessary to establish oral health policies and institutional measures tailored to the dental care of adolescents.
Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between depression and number of present teeth in Korean elderly individuals. Methods: Data for this cross-sectional survey was obtained from the records of the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The subjects were 1,199 Korean elderly individuals above 65 years of age. The survey and examination data were used for the independent variables. The KNHANES included health status, nutrition survey, and oral examination. $x^2-test$ was performed to identify the characteristics of depression and number of teeth present according to the characteristics of the study subjects. Logistic regression analysis was also performed to identify the relationship between depression and number of teeth present. The statistical significance level wa sset at 0.05. Results: The prevalence of depression in the subjects was 14.8%. There were statistically significant differences in the prevalence of depression, depending on gender (p<0.001), education level (p=0.001), income (p=0.001), spouse status (p<0.001), and alcohol consumption (p=0.020). The association between depression and the number of teeth present showed statistically significant difference after adjustment (p=0.040). Conclusions: Depression in elderly individuals was closely related to the number of teeth present. Therefore, public health policies for improving oral health should be established to prevent depression.
This study investigated the level of knowledge about changes in the oral environment according to the presence or absence of smoking in adults in their 20s and 40s. It was conducted to use as basic data for the relationship between periodontal disease and smoking and the importance of concurrent education on smoking cessation during oral health education for adults. In subjective oral condition analysis, 65.4% of non-smokers and 59.0% of smokers thought that it was very good or good. Also, in both the non-smokers and smokers groups, the most common answer was that they thought the cleanliness of non-smokers would be higher. To the question of whether they had ever received anti-smoking education, 63.9% of non-smokers and 76.1% of smokers answered 'yes'. In the education that 'the oral environment changes depending on whether or not there is smoking', the non-smoker group showed 'no' and the smoker group showed 'yes' respectively. As a result, oral health education related to smoking and prevention It is thought that specific and active educational methods should be accompanied for this.
In this study, a survey was conducted to check the health status and health-related behavior according to the subjective oral malodor of some university students targeting 1,490 students who are attending N university in Cheonan. Based on the result to confirm the awareness of oral malodor and systemic diseases status, there were many cases to be realized such as sinus infection, chronic rhinitis, asthma, gastrointestinal disorders and xerostama among the people who think that they have bad breath, not the people who think that they don't have bad breath (p<.05). Based on the result to confirm the subjective oral health condition according to awareness of oral malodor status, it was shown that there were more respondents who have some oral conditions such as 'there are tooth to be treated', 'there is food stuck between tooth' and 'the gums are often swollen' among the people who realize that they have bad breath, not the people who think that they don't have bad breath (p<.05). It was shown that there were more cases to be brushed teeth everyday among the people who realize that they don't have bad breath than the people who think that they have bad breath (p<.05) and there were more cases to be used dental floss and to be brushed tongue everyday among the people who think that they don't have bad breath (p<.01).

The aim of this study was to determine the factors contributing to the barrier of dental treatment for special needs patients perceived by the main caregivers of the patients. A questionnaire was developed with three parts: patient-related factors, caregiver-related factors, and factors for treatment barriers. Patient- and caregiver-related factors were analyzed for correlations with the barrier factors. Fisher's exact test and Chi-square test were used at the level of 0.05. A total of 52 caregivers (mean age [SD]=50.2 [11.5] years) for the patients with intellectual and cognitive disabilities (mean age [SD]=38.9 [21.3]) responded to the questionnaires. Oral hygiene status, need for assistance in tooth brushing, and cooperation for tooth brushing were correlated with the level of treatment cooperation of the patients (p<0.05). The above three factors were also correlated with the treatment barrier despite patients presenting oral symptoms (p<0.05). Two thirds of the caregivers felt the treatment cost as severe or a considerable financial burden. For patients, insurance types and need for assistance in tooth brushing, and for caregivers, education levels and financial status were significant factors contributing to financial burden (p<0.05). There were background factors of the patients and their caregivers associated with access to dental treatment for special needs patients. Deficient cooperative skills and financial burdens were the main obstacles to treatment access. Tooth brushing skills and oral hygiene status can be proxy measures to cooperative ability for dental treatment.
Objectives: This study attempted to provide basic data necessary for a prevention promotion program for oral health management in college students. Methods: This study investigated general characteristics and subjective periodontal health status using a structured questionnaire and examined the distribution of bacteria related to periodontal disease in oral cavity by real-time PCR in subjects composed of 57 male and female college students. Results: It was statistically significant that P. gingivalis was detected more frequently in smokers with 25% compared to non-smokers with 6.1%, not detected in subjects that engaged in tooth brushing more than three times a day, and was detected in subjects that engaged in tooth brushing fewer than three times a day with 21.1%. Pathogens in saliva had significant correlations with each other (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). P. gingivalis showed positive correlations with T. forsythia, T. denticola, P. intermedia, and A. actinomycetemocmitans, and T. forsythia with P. intermedia, and A. actinomycetemocmitans. P. intermedia had a positive correlation with A. actinomycetemocmitans, and F. nucleatum with P. intermedia. Conclusions: Bacteria related to periodontal disease in oral cavities in college students were distributed in various ways, and smoking and the frequency of daily toothbrushing were found to be risk factors for the detection of bacteria.
