  • The ignition characteristics of repetitive electric sparks into a quiescent acetylene-air premixture and LPG-argon-air premixture was investigated by using a home-made Repetitive-Spark-Generator(RSG) to elucidate the effect of fuel burning velocity to ignition ability of RSG. Results show that the optimum spark delay time interval is strongly related with fuel burning velocity, or implicitly with characteristic reaction time scale of each fuel.

  • Hydrogen separation from multi-component mixture gases by the four-bed PSA process was studied experimentally and theoretically using layered bed of activated carbon and zeolited 5A. Effects of the adsorption time, the linear velocity on the process performance were investigated. The adsorption time and linear velocity affected the purity and recovery of the product $H_2$ purity is increases according as the adsorption time and linear velocity decrease; however, $H_2$ recovery shows an opposite phenomena to the purity. PSA process simulation studied to find optimum operation condition. In the results, 50sec adsorption time, 3cm/s linear velocity might be optimal values to obtain more than 99.999% purity and 65% recovery hydrogen.

  • This study was performed to analyze the fluid flow characteristics and the temperature distribution of the aquarium for fish breeding. In this study, the finite volume method and turbulence k-$\varepsilon$ model with the SIMPLE computational algorithm are used to study the water flow in the aquarium. The calculation parameters are the circulating flow rate and the basin depth, and the experiments were carried out for the water flow visualization This numerical analysis gives reasonable velocity distributions in good agreement with the experimental data. As the results of the three dimmentional simulations, the sectional mean velocity increased as the sectional mean temperature increases for constant basin depth, and the mean velocity increased more rapidly for small basin depth than that of large basin depth, The mean velocity and temperature can be expressed as the function of the circulating flow rates and the basin depth.

  • An optimization approach is investigated for the design of new nozzle system in a automatic car wash machine. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics and design of experiment methods have been employed to know the mutual interaction between the nozzle shape in the automatic car wash machine and the airflow velocity distribution on the vehicle surface. The performances of air nozzle system were defined as the velocity magnitude and the uniformity of the velocity on the surface of the car. Predicted jet velocity distributions for the optimized geometry were compared with experimental data and the comparisons showed generally good agreements. Also, the performance of the dryer was improved with the optimized results.

  • The design of ultrasonic transducer energy processing systems requires highly reliable command featuring mechanical frequency tracking and constant velocity control of the ultrasonic transducer with an acoustic load. This paper presents a new conceptional instantaneous current resultant control base high-frequency inverter using self turn-off devices driving an electrostrictive ultrasonic transducer system and its optimum control technique, which is implemented by feed-back of the ultrasonic transducer applied voltage and instantaneous velocity of the transducer vibrating system through a Phase-Locked-Loop control scheme. The feedback voltage corresponding to instantaneous velocity is averaged over a half-period with respect to constant amplitude/constant velocity control strategy. Described are the theory of this signal detection technique and the experimental set-up.

  • A dynamic modeling, analysis, and optimum design issuess for the Hybrid type of robot are addressed. The dynamic modeling can be used to describe acceleration and velocity properties of the system explicitly in terms of the actuating forces is coded in C language based on the kinematic influence coefficients(KIC). By using this modeling simulation, the actuating forces needed for the robot follows the given trajectory are calculated. Also, for the design concept, the optimum geometric configuration of the system that minimizes the maximum actuating forces is found by using the optimization techique.

  • Several optimum control algorithms have been proposed to minimize the robot cycle time by velocity scheduling. Most of these algorithms assume that the dynamic and kinematic characteristics of a manipulator are fixed. This paper presents the study of a minimum-time optimum control for robotic manipulators considering parameter changes. A complete set of solutions for parameter identification of the robot dynamics has been developed. The minimum-time control algorithm has been revised to be updated using estimated parameters from measurements.

  • This study was carried out to investigate optimum wind velocity for growth of Pleurotus ostreatus. In the chamber experiments, the divergence of pileus was $63^{\circ}$ in 0.3m/s, and it showed the tendency that the more the air velocity was increased, the more the divergence became small. And the ratio of commercial yields was 96% in the air velocity of 0.3m/s. In the cultivation room experiments, the divergence of pileus was $64^{\circ}$ in 0.3m/s, and it was the tendency that the more the air velocity was fast, the more the divergence became larger. And the commercial yields was similar to the trend of the chamber experiment as 94.8% in 0.3m/s, and the quality characteristics of the fruit-body showed the uniform quality in comparison with other treatment because the standard deviation of the size of the pileus, etc. was the lowest in 0.3m/s like the chamber experiment.

  • Before cables are constructed, tower of suspension bridge is behaved as a cantilever type. Buffeting occured by unsteady loading of the tower due to velocity fluctuation in the oncoming flow has a wind velocity consistent with fundamental frequency of the tower and may give rise to large response by the tower resonance. To reduce the dynamic response by buffeting, the behavior of tower with TMD(Tuned Mass Damper) has studied using finite element method in time domain. The buffeting was obtained by transforming the velocity spectrum in frequency domain to random variable in certain time domain. The most probable maximum displacement which can be occured during the time interval was obtained using peak factor. The optimum location for TMD installation and TMD specification were decided by parametric study. Also, the effect of vibration control about various wind velocity was studied by the TMD which has optimum specification and location.

  • The multiplication equipment of marine products with artificial upwelling structures could be useful in the fishing grounds near coastal areas. Artificial upwelling structures could move the inorganic nutrients from the bottom to the surface. Artificial upwelling structures have been used to improve the productivity of fishing grounds. Until now, research on artificial upwelling structures has been related to the distribution of the upwelling region, upwelling structures, and the marine environment. However, little work on the optimum design of the rubber-mound artificial upwelling structures has been done to increase the efficiency of drawing up the inorganic nutrients. This study investigated the optimum cross-section of rubber-mound artificial upwelling structures by means of hydraulic experiments. The hydraulic experiments include the falling test of rubber. Based on the results of the falling test, the relationship between the length of the rubber mound and water velocity, and the relationship between the shape of the rubber and the stratification parameter were established. In addition, the effect of the void ratio of various artificial structures on the stratification parameter was studied. From the experiment, it was found that upwelling could be enhanced when the ratio of structure height to water depth was 0.3 and stratification parameter was 3.0. The upwelling was not improved when the void ratio exceeded 0.43. The optimum size of rubber mounds was determined when the incident velocity was influenced by the mean horizontal length rather than size of block.
