Fragmenting the rock mass is considered as the most important work in open-pit mines. Ground vibration is the most hazardous issue of blasting which can cause critical damage to the surrounding structures. This paper focuses on developing an explicit model to predict the ground vibration through an multi objective evolutionary polynomial regression (MOGA-EPR). To this end, a database including 79 sets of data related to a quarry site in Malaysia were used. In addition, a gene expression programming (GEP) model and several empirical equations were employed to predict ground vibration, and their performances were then compared with the MOGA-EPR model using the mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), mean (𝜇), standard deviation of the mean (𝜎), coefficient of determination (R2) and a20-index. Comparing the results, it was found that the MOGA-EPR model predicted the ground vibration more precisely than the GEP model and the empirical equations, where the MOGA-EPR scored lower MAE and RMSE, 𝜇 and 𝜎 closer to the optimum value, and higher R2 and a20-index. Accordingly, the proposed MOGA-EPR model can be introduced as a useful method to predict ground vibration and has the capacity to be generalized to predict other blasting effects.
Recently changes in the technological environment of marine transportation and the increase of traffic volume have fostered a revolution in the design and operation of port and also playing a major role in the development of new types of port in Asian. These changes are dynamic and will continue to influence port physical distribution system. The port of Pusan has been hardly able to handle the traffic increases in recent years by expansion increased mechanization and other operational and institutional improvements but, further traffic increases bring about critical congestion and such congestion is an economic cost to the country in terms of cost of physical distribution. This paper treats the development of entirely new port of Pusan and related transportation system by considering the existing or expected need for improved port capacity and services. The western part of GADUK island is selected as the optimum port site through the detailed analysis of the physical requirement and careful consideration of regional development and since the lead time of the national development plan including the port project from initial planning to implementation is considered as long as 7 to 10 years the aggregated master plan for port development is made and implemented in the year of 2012.
This paper investigates the resistance performance of drag anchors used for aqua farms installed in southwestern offshore wind farms in Korea. These anchors have been employed for a long time without any quantitative evaluation. Experimental campaigns were performed at the target site and the results were used to validate the numerical model by changing the penetration depths in the uniformly distributed seabed (i.e., flat). Based on the validated model with good agreement with the experiments (ARE 1.8 %), the resistance of the anchor with different pullout angles was thoroughly examined. It is worth noting that the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) technique was applied to account for the large deformation of the anchor; Eulerian for the seabed and Lagrangian for the structure. The numerical results indicated that the pullout resistance is vulnerable to horizontal inclined force rather than vertical inclination, implying that the optimum performance is ideally expected to be 0-degree force applied.
Purpose : To evaluate the Possibility of decreasing the radiation dose and to determine optimum treatment volume in intracranial germinomas. Materials and Methods : Forty five patients with pathologically-verified or presumed germinomas by a radiosensitivity test who had been treated with radiotherapy (RT) alone between 1971 and 1992 were retrospectively analyzed. The average age was 17.2 years with 68.9$\%$ of the patients being between the ages of 10$\~$20. The male and female ratio was 2.2:1. The locations of the primary tumors were at the pineal regions in 14 patients; the suprasellar regions in 12 patients; and multiple sites in 12 patients. Treatment volumes varied from a small local field (10) to the whole brain (7) or entire neuroaxis irradiation(28). All the cases after 1982 received craniospinal irradiation (CSI). Radiation doses were 41-59 Gy (median 48.5 Gy) to the primary tumor site and 19.5$\~$36 Gy (median 24 Gy) to the neuroaxis. The median follow-up period was 82 months with a range of 2$\~$260 months. Results : All the patients showed complete response after RT. Four patients sufferred from recurrence 14, 65, 76, and 170 months after RT, respectively, and two patients died with intercurrent disease. One of four recurrent cases was salvaged by re-irradiation. Therefore, a 5 and 10 year overall suNival was 95.3$\%$ and 84.7 $\%$ respectively. Five and ten year disease-free survival was 97.6 $\%$ and 88.8 $\%$ respectively. All the recurrences occurred in the patients who received local RT (3/10) or whole brain RT (1/7) with a radiation dose of 48-50 Gy. None of the patients who received CSI suffered recurrence. There was no recurrence among the 15 patients who received $\leq$45 Gy to the primary site and the 18 patients who received $\leq$24 Gy (6 patients received 19.5 Gy) to the neuroaxis. Conclusion : CSI is recommended for the treatment of intracranial germinomas. The radiation dose can be safely decreased to $\leq$45 Gy on a primay tumor site and 19.5 Gy on the spine.
Recently in Korea, application of the soil nailing is gradually extended to the sites of excavations and slopes having various ground conditions and field characteristics. Design of the soil nailing is generally carried out in two steps, The First step is to examine the minimum safety factor against a sliding of the reinforced nailed-soil mass based on the limit equilibrium approach, and the second step is to check the maximum displacement expected to occur at facing using the numerical analysis technique. However, design parameters related to the soil nailing system are so various that a reliable design method considering interrelationships between these design parameters is continuously necessary. Additionally, taking into account the anisotropic characteristics of in-situ grounds, disturbances in collecting the soil samples and errors in measurements, a systematic analysis of the field measurement data as well as a rational technique of the optimum design is required to improve with respect to economical efficiency. As a part of these purposes, in the present study, a procedure for the optimum design of a soil nailing excavation wall system is proposed. Focusing on a minimization of the expenses in construction, the optimum design procedure is formulated based on the genetic algorithm. Neural network theory is further adopted in predicting the maximum horizontal displacement at a shotcrete facing. Using the proposed procedure, various effects of relevant design parameters are also analyzed. Finally, an optimized design section is compared with the existing design section at the excavation site being constructed, in order to verify a validity of the proposed procedure.
The effect of vanadate on the optimum pH of Na-K-ATPase was investigated. The results were as follows: 1) The optimum PH of Na-K-ATPase was shifted from PH 7.4 to 6.8 at 10 mM K by $5{\times}10^{-6}M$ vanadate. 2) The ratio of Na-K-ATPase activity at pH 6.8 and 7.4 increased with increasing vanadate concentration. 3) Inspite of the presence of $5{\times}10^{-6}M$ vanadate Na-K-ATPase activity at pH 7.4 was higher than that at pH 6.8 below 50 mM $Na^+$, and the ratio of Na-K-ATPase activity at pH 7,4 and 6.8 was higher than that of the control. 4) Na-K-ATPase activity at pH 7.4 was higher than that at pH 6.8 below 7mM $K^+$. 5) Optimum pH of Na-K-ATPase activity was shifted from pH 7.4 to 6.8 by $10^{-5}M$ vanadate at 5 mM $K^+$. 6) $K^+$-pNPPase activity increased with lowering of pH, and the degree of inhibition of $K^+$-pNPPase activity by $10^{-7}$M vanadate was decreased with lowering of pH. These results suggest that vanadate shifts the optimum pH of Na-K-ATPase activity to more acidic PH than PH 7.4. This effect may not be caused by the decrease in the inhibitory potency of vanadate itself to Na-K-ATPase by the change of medium pH, but mainly by the alteration of Na-and K-binding site, which appears in the presence of vanadate only.

A new ion source has been designed, fabricated, and installed at the NBTS (Neutral Beam Test Stand) at the KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) site. The goalis to provide a 100 keV, 2MW deuterium neutral beam injection as an auxiliary heating of KSTAR (Korea Super Tokamak Advanced Research). To cope with power demand, an ion current of 50 A is required considering the beam power loss and neutralization efficiency. The new ion source consists of a magnetic cusp bucket plasma generator and a set of tetrode accelerators with circular copper apertures. The plasma generator for the new ion source has the same design concept as the modified JAEA multi-cusp plasma generator for the KSTAR prototype ion source. The dimensions of the plasma generator are a cross section of $59{\times}25cm^2$ with a 32.5 cm depth. The anode has azimuthal arrays of Nd-Fe permanent magnets (3.4 kG at surface) in the bucket and an electron dump, which makes 9 cusp lines including the electron dump. The discharge properties were investigated preliminarily to enhance the efficiency of the beam extraction. The discharge of the new ion source was mainly controlled by a constant power mode of operation. The discharge of the plasma generator was initiated by the support of primary electrons emitted from the cathode, consisting of 12 tungsten filaments with a hair-pin type (diameter = 2.0 mm). The arc discharge of the new ion source was achieved easily up to an arc power of 80 kW (80 V/1000 A) with hydrogen gas. The 80 kW capacity seems sufficient for the arc power supply to attain the goal of arc efficiency (beam extracted current/discharge input power = 0.8 A/kW). The accelerator of the new ion source consists of four grids: plasma grid (G1), gradient grid (G2), suppressor grid (G3), and ground grid (G4). Each grid has 280 EA circular apertures. The performance tests of the new ion source accelerator were also finished including accelerator conditioning. A hydrogen ion beam was successfully extracted up to 100 keV /60 A. The optimum perveance is defined where the beam divergence is at a minimum was also investigated experimentally. The optimum hydrogen beam perveance is over $2.3{\mu}P$ at 60 keV, and the beam divergence angle is below $1.0^{\circ}$. Thus, the new ion source is expected to be capable of extracting more than a 5 MW deuterium ion beam power at 100 keV. This ion source can deliver ~2 MW of neutral beam power to KSTAR tokamak plasma for the 2012 campaign.

Modular architecture is very important not only in the design phase but also in the construction planning phase because it affects construction methods and module sizes depending on transport equipment. There are economic risks as well as quality, as there may be defects such as internal interiors or elimination of deadlines during transportation, and structural torsion caused by rainfall and shock. However, there is a lack of objective criteria or data to refer to in determining transport equipment that has a material effect on transport. Accordingly, there is no decision model to determine the optimum transportation equipment for each construction site. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a decision support model that can be compared to the review of transport equipment selection factors. The purpose of this study is to propose the transport equipment impact factors and decision support models for systematic review and objective decision making of each construction plan in the construction of small and medium-sized modulators. The decision model proposed in this study can be used as basic data for transport studies, ensuring objectivity and transparency in the equipment selection process.

This study is to examine experimentally on the engineering properties of fiber reinforced concrete using kenaf(KN) fiber and another organic fibers for comparing test, and propose the usable method of KN fiber as an natural fiber in the concrete industry. It is to select 4 contents(0, 0.3, 0.6 and $0.9kg/m^3$) of KN fiber and 4 organic fibers (Jute, Cellulose, Polypropylene and Nylon). For this study, it is to perform various tests including slump, air content, plastic and drying shrinkage, flexural and tensile strength, carbonation depth for the fiber reinforced concrete according to contents of KN fiber and 4 organic fibers. The results of this study are as follows : In case of KN fiber contents $0.6kg/m^3$, it shows the effective results from increasing concrete strength including flexural and tensile, from decreasing plastic and drying shrinkage, carbonation depth. Also KN fiber is confirmed having excellent performances by comparing with test results of another organic fibers as same contents $0.6kg/m^3$. Therefore, considering concrete test results, cost and environment, KN fiber is proposed as the optimum contents in the range of $0.6kg/m^3$ and an effective fiber materials, and needs to keep up these study on the site application.
The characteristics of the a-amylase of Aspergillus coreanus NR 15-1 isolated from traditional Korean Nuruk have been carried out. The a-amylase of A. coreanus NR 15-1 was purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation followed by column chromatographies on CM-cellulose, DEAE-cellulose, Sephadex G-100 gel filtration and hydroxyapatite. The a-amylase was purified 78-fold with a yield of 8.7%. The molecular weight of the a-amylase was estimated to be 49 kDa by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration and 51 kDa by SDS-polyacrylamide gel eletrophoresis. These experimental results suggested that the purified enzyme might be monomer. The enzyme was stable between pH 4 and 11. The optimum pH was 5.0. The optimum temperature for enzyme was 45$^{\circ}C$ and the enzyme was stable up to 50$^{\circ}C$. The enzyme was significantly inhibited by 1 mM N-bromosuccinimide. These results suggested that tryptophan residue was involved in the active site of a-amylase. The enzyme was identified as a-amylase because the reaction products of soluble starch hydrolyzed by the purified enzyme was oligosaccharide by thin layer chromatography.
