  • Laboratory experiment was performed to evaluate the influence of mixing conditions to the strength of solidified sandy soils with cement. The major physical factors considered in this experiment were the fine particles content(<$\sharp200%$), cement content(%) and water-cement ratio, and unconfined compressive strength test was performed on the samples at 7 and 28 cured day. The results of tests shows that when the cement content is relatively low (7~10 percents) the fine content in the sandy soils is very important, but when cement content is high the water-cement ratio became more important. It was appeared that in the range of the cement content of 7~10 percents, about 20~30 percents of fine content to the total sample weight is the optimum condition to get the maximum strength. In the case of the cement content of 13 percents, the strength of sample was considerably affected by the water-cement ratio rather than the fine content. In this paper, empirical equations were also developed and evaluated to verify the relationship among three factors by the multi-regression analysis.

  • Recently color AC PDP(plasma display panel) technology is rapidly improved. However, the luminous efficiency improvement is a key issue for making plasma display into a large-area flat display. In this paper, we suggest a new concentration of Xe in He-Ne-Xe gas mixture in order to achieve a high luminous efficiency of color AC PDPs. We calculated the densities of 25 species as a function of the time zero dimensional simulation using CVODE solver and we compared the results of zero dimensional simulation with a measurement of photo wave brightness and luminous efficiency, in order to find the optimum mixing condition of He-Ne-Xe gas in color plasma display panel. We obtained a high discharge speed under Xe mixing ratio of 1% by simulation and confirmed that through measuring photo wave.

  • In this paper, we have studied about the optimum fabrication condition of the printed Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) layers for the electrical resistance-type sensor application. We have investigated on the substrates surface treatments, mixing ratio of organic binder/ITO powder, and viscosity of the printing paste to determine the optimum condition of the screen printed ITO layer. Also, we found that the printing condition is closely related with the sensor performance. To know the feasibility of printed ITO layer as an electrical resistance-type sensor, we have fabricated the ITO sensors with a printed and sputtered ITO layers. The printed ITO films revealed $10^2$ times higher sensitivity than the sputtered ITO layer. Also, the sputtered ITO layer exhibited an operating temperature of $127^{\circ}C$ at the operating voltage of 5 V. While, in case of the printed ITO layer showed the operating temperature of $27.6^{\circ}C$ in high operating voltage of 30 V. We found that the printed ITO layer is suitable for the various sensor applications.

  • In case of CNT mixing with epoxy, epoxy matrix needs to be diluted. This work studied the effect of the dilution condition of epoxy on CNT dispersion. The optimum solvent condition using acetone and DMF was found via mechanical and solubility methods which affects, the epoxy performance. The dispersion using acetone was better than the DMF and thus higher mechanical properties. Four mixing types of CNT particle were performed. To verify the effects of each step between dilution and dispersion, the dispersion between epoxy and CNT was evaluated via the electrical resistance and optical methods. The optimum dispersion was obtained via mechanical test and thermal analysis by DSC. Among four types, the best was to disperse CNT after epoxy and hardeners were diluted respectively.

  • Toward the development of practical methods for observed data oriented bispectral estimation, an automatic means for determining the smoothing bandwidth of bispectral windows is proposed, that can also provide an associated optimum bispectral estimate of stationary non-Gaussian signals, systematically only from an observed time series datum of finite length. For the conventional non-parametric bispectral estimation, the MSE (mean squared error) of the normalized estimate is reviewed under a certain mixing condition and sufficient data length, mainly from the viewpoint of the inverse relation between its bias and variance with respect to the smoothing bandwidth. Based on the fundamental relation, a systematic method not only for determining the bandwidth, but also for obtaining the optimum bispectral estimate is presented by newly introducing a MSE evaluation index of the estimate only from an observed time series datum of finite length. The effectiveness and fundamental features of the proposed method are illustrated by the basic results of numerical experiments.

  • A study on the removal of Pb ion from Pb-contaminated soil was carried out using ex-site extraction process. Tartaric acid (TA) and iminodiacetic acid sodium salt(IDA) as a washing agent were evaluated as a function of concentration reaction time mixing ratio of washing agent and recycling of washing agent. TA showed a better extraction performance than IDA. The optimum washing condition of TA and IDA were in the ratio of 1:15 and 1:20 between soil and acid solution during 1 hr reaction. The total concentrations of Pb ion by TA and IDA at three repeated extraction were 368.8 ppm and 267.5 ppm respectively. The recovery of Pb ion from washing solution was achieved by adding calcium hydroxide and sodium sulfide form the precipitation of lead hydroxide and lead sulfide and optimum amounts of sodium sulfide and calcium hydroxide were 7 g/$\ell$ for the TA washing solution and 4 g/$\ell$, 5g/$\ell$ for the IDA washing solution respectively. The efficiency of recycle for TA and IDA washing solution were 78.8% , 95.1%, and 89.2%, 96.6% at third extractions under $Na_2S$ and $Ca(OH)_2$, respectively.

  • Finned segment, with which are lined inner wall of the turbine combustors, are subject to severe degradation when they are exposed to a hostile environmment at elevated temperature. To protect the finned segment from this environment and to maintain good mechanical properties of components at high temperature, they are preferred to be coated. The most governing factor for the durability of coatings used in the high temperature is the microstructure of coatings; these are splat from, distibution of microcacks, size and distribution of pores, thickness of coating layer, adhesion between coating layer, and oxidation of band coating. In this study, based on the evaluation of the imported finned segment, new finned segment segment was manufactured with optimum plasma spraying parameters, and their properties were examined. Using $ZrO_2(8wt$Y_2O_3)$,/TEX> powder for ceramic coating and 67Ni-22Cr-10Al-0.5Y mixing powder for bond coating, thickness of ceramic and bond coating layer were varied in order to find optimum condition, the results showed that B2T4(bond coating : 100~250$\mu\textrm{m}$, ceramic coating : 250~300$\mu\textrm{m}$) was the best among the specimens tested. Compared to the imported finned segment, B2T4 has better bond strength, hardness, and isothermal and cyclic oxidation resistance.

  • To investigate the optimum conditions of seaweed Mooks prepared with sea mustard (Indaria pinnatifida) and sea tangel(Laminaria japonica), pH, viscosity , yield and jelly strength were studied on the sol and /or gel (Mook ) made from homogenized seaweeds. Solubilization conditions of homogenized seaweeds were heating at $65^{\circ}C$ for one hour after mixing homogenized seaweed with 1 % $K_2$HPO$_4$ by 1 ; 1 (v/v) . Gelation conditions were 24 hrs by natural permeation of Ca++ into the sol in three times (v/v) of 1 % CaCl$_2$ solution to solubilized seaweed passed through 60 mesh of sieve. There are generally no relationship between viscosity of solubilized seaweed and jelly strength of Mook produced by gelation of the sol in CaCl$_2$ solution . Jelly strength of sea mustard Mook was more than 500g/$\textrm{cm}^2$ , yield was 87.5% of the solubilized and filtrated seaweed . Jelly strength and specific gravity of sea tangle Mook were higher those of sea mustard Mook, while its yield was lower than that of sea mustard Mook.

  • Chiral separation of arylalcohols such as 1-phenyl-1-propanol, 1-phenyl-2-propanol, and 2-phenyl-1-propanol by capillary electrophoresis was studied using sulfonated $\beta$-cyclodextrin (CD) as a chiral selector and Ag colloids as an additive. The optimum separation condition of arylalcohols was found to be the chiral selector concentration of 6.5 mM, applied voltage of 15 kV, and pH of 7.0. In order to improve chiral separation, an Ag colloid was mixed with a running buffer. The resolution in the Ag colloid-mixed running buffer was considerably superior to that obtained with the sulfonated $\beta$-CD alone. The molar ratio of sulfonated $\beta$-CD to Ag colloid, which is one of critical parameters affecting resolution, was found to be optimum at 65 : 1. In order to elucidate the resolution mechanism, an inclusion-complex of the arylalcohols with sulfonated $\beta$-CD was prepared by mixing and shaking in solution, and then characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The inclusion mechanism was also discussed using experimental results.

  • To find the optimum mixing ratio of WGS catalyst with $CO_2$ absorbent for SEWGS process, water gas shift reaction tests were carried out in a fluidized bed reactor using commercial WGS catalyst and sand (as a substitute for $CO_2$ absorbent). WGS catalyst content, gas velocity, and steam/CO ratio were considered as experimental variables. CO conversion increased as the catalyst content increased during water gas shift reaction. Variations of the CO conversion with the catalyst content were small at low gas velocity. However, those variations increased at higher gas velocity. Within experimental range of this study, the optimum operating condition(steam/CO ratio=3, gas velocity = 0.03 m/s, catalyst content=10 wt.%) to get high CO conversion and $CO_2$ capture efficiency was confirmed. Moreover, long time water gas shift reaction tests up to 20 hours were carried out for two cases (catalyst content = 10 and 20 wt.%) and we could conclude that the WGS reactivity at those conditions was maintained up to 20 hours.
