  • Hydrotalcite was prepared by reacting with sodium carbonate, magnesium oxide and aluminum sulfate solutions in this study. The optimum synthesis conditions based on the yield of the product were established by applying Box-Wilson experimental design. It was found that the optimum synthesis conditions of hydrotalcite were as follows; reacting temperature : 48~63$^{\circ}C$, concentration of reactant solution : about 20%, molar concentration ratio of two reactants [MgO]/[Al. sulfate] ; 7.35~8.1, temperature of washing water : 34.4~37.4$^{\circ}C$, drying temperature : 74~81.5$^{\circ}C$. The physicochemical properties of hydrotalcite as medicine were studied by use of chemical analysis, D.S.C. thermogram, bulk volume test and acid consuming capacity measurements.

  • The effect of ammonium ion concentration on the production of demethyl- chlortetracycline (DMCT) by a DMCT overproducing mutant, Streptomyces aureofaciens 27VR, and the optimal control of pH were studied. The optimum levels of pH control were 6.5-6.6 for 80-120 hr, 6.4- 6.5 for 121-150hr and 6.3-6.4 for 151-190hr. The optimum level of ammonium ion concentration during the pH control was lower than 20 mg%. Under the optimized culture condition, it was possible to produce DMCT with an 18% increase in productivity compared to that of standard culture condition in 190hrs of the fermentor operation.

  • The effect of graphite on the frictional characteristics of Cu-based sintered friction materials was studied by pin-on-disk type wear test. A study has been carried out concerning the optimum concentration of graphite in sintered friction material to obtain the minimum wear rate and low friction coefficient . Friction coefficient and wear rate were increased as increasing the content of graphite in the matrix. In the study the optimum concentration of graphite was 19vol % to get the minimum wear rate and optimal frick'ion coefficient.

  • The objective of this paper is to decide optimal location of a pin-hole to minimize stress concentration around the hole in a rotating disc. The focus of this investigation is to evaluate the effect of pin-hole on stress distribution around the hole using optimum design technique and finite element analysis. Design variables are the radial and the angular location of pin-hole from center of the hole and objective function is the maximum stress around hole in a rotating disc. Using first order method of optimization technique, we found that the maximum equivalent stress around the hole with optimized pin-hole could be reduced by 15.1% compared to that without pin-hole.

  • The solvent extraction process for the recovery of vanadium from leaching solution of SCR(selective catalytic reduction) spent catalyst was investigated by using Alamine336 as an extractant. The effects of experimental conditions, such as initial pH and concentration of sulfate ion, and ammonia concentration of stripping solution were studied. The extraction percentage of vanadium were increased with the increase of initial pH of leaching solution and decreased with the increase of sulfate ion. More than 99% of vanadium in leaching solution were extracted and stripped at the A/O ratio of 1.0 in 2 stages. On the basis of these results, an optimum solvent extraction process which vanadium was effectively recovered from SCR spent catalyst was proposed.

  • Background : Excessively high concentration of sodium ion causednutrient deficiency and significantly decrease growth. This study was carried out to determine the limiting concentration range of sodium ion in the soil of ginseng field. Methods and Results : The growth of the ginseng cultivar Chunpoong reduced with increase in salinity, and the rate of growth reduction was higher in shoots than that of roots. Particularly, ginseng plants cultivated at high level of nitrate nitrogen or sodium may suffer delayed development and stunted growth. Chlorophyll damage occurred on the leaves of ginseng planted in relatively high levels (> $0.2cmol^+/kg$) of sodium ion, as determined by the fluorescence reaction. The incidence of physiological disorder in ginseng cultivated at 249 sites was correlated with the concentration of sodium ion in the soils. About 74% of ginseng fields in which physiological disorders occurred had concentrations of sodium ion in soil greater than $0.2cmol^+/kg$. In contrast, the concentration of sodium ions at 51 of 85 sites where no damage occurred was relatively ($0.05cmol^+/kg-0.15cmol^+/kg$). Conclusions : The concentration of sodium ion in soil of ginseng fields can be classified into three levels optimum (${\leq}0.15$), permissible allowance (0.15 - 0.2) and excessive (> 0.2).

  • Using a 50-1 airlift bioreactor, for the effective production of tylosin from Streptomyces fradiae TM-224 using raw cornmeal as the energy source, various environmental factors were studied in flask cultures. The maximum tylosin concentration was obtained at $32^{\circ}C$ and pH between 7.0 and 7.5. When seed was inoculated after 24 h of culture, the maximum tylosin concentration, 5.7 g/l, was obtained after 4 days of culture. Various concentrations of raw cornmeal were tested to investigate the optimum initial concentration for the tylosin production. An initial raw cornmeal concentration of 80 g/l gave the highest tylosin concentration, 5.8 g/l, after 5 days of culture. Of the various nitrogen sources, soybean meal and fish meal were found to be the most effective for the production of tylosin. In particular, with the optimal mixing ratio, 12 g/l of soybean meal to 14 g/l of fish meal, 7.2 g/l of tylosin was obtained after 5 days of culture. To compare raw cornmeal and glucose for the production of tylosin in the 50-1 airlift bioreactor for 10 days, fed-batch cultures were carried out under the optimum culture conditions. When raw com meal was used as the energy source, the tylosin production increased with increasing culture time. The maximum tylosin concentration after 10 days of culture was 13.5 g/l, with a product yield from raw cornmeal of 0.123 g/g of consumed carbon source, which was about 7.2 times higher than that obtained when glucose was used as the carbon source.

  • Transparent eloctroaes of polycrystalline till-oxide films doped with antimony are prepared on the substrate of microscopic cover g1ass by modified spray method and from SnCl4 Solution. Their electrical and optical properties are investigated in relation to the surface temperature of the substrate glass and to antimony concentration in the starting materials. The sheet.resiststrace of the film electrodes and transmittance for incandescent light depen on tile antimony concentration and surface temperature of substrates at the time of making films. The transmittance increases with decrease of sheet resistance of the film. The optimum sheet.resistance was obtianed in the case of the antimony concentration 0.6(%) approximately , and the max. transmittance was 93(%).

  • Herein we present a tested aqueous based redox flow battery (RFB) that employs phosphomolybdic acid and ferrocyanide as the negative and positive active species in an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The different concentrations of NaOH solution, such as 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 M, were prepared for checking the electrochemical properties and stability. The NaOH concentration as a supporting electrolyte in the negative species appears to play an important role in the electrochemical properties of phosphomolybdic acid. Moreover, the optimum value of the concentration is necessary for the best performance. The resistance of the electrolyte decreased with increasing the concentration up to 1.5 M and then increased to 1.6 M. Hence, the decrease in electrolyte resistance appears to greatly influence the energy efficiency, which is improved by increasing the concentration of NaOH. In addition, the 1.5 M NaOH solution appears to be the concentration required for optimum performance.

  • The shape optimization procedure applying finite element method was carried out for the specific purpose of analysis of a tractor chassis frame. Minimization of the mass as an objective function is executed under multiple constrained conditions of nodal displacements and stresses. The optimization process executions were succeeded in converging into single optimum solution. Although mass reduction and stress alleviation were attained by 40% and 26 to 24% respectively , the geometry of the shape is so complicated for fabrication that the refinement of the geometry is of necessity.
