  • Shot peening process is most often used to improve the fatigue properties of metal parts, In order to achieve an optimum, repeatable, and reliable fatigue enhancement from the shot peening process, the important shot peening parameters must be optimized, In this paper, the optimum peening intensity(Almen intensity) condition is investigated by experiment. Rotary bending fatigue test has been adopted to investigate the effects of optimum peening on the fatigue characteristics, Experimental results show that the fatigue strength and fatigue life has been tremendously increased by optimum-peening treatment. However, the fatigue strength and fatigue life has been decreased by under or over peening.

  • This paper proposes an alternative methodology for deciding an optimum deterministic reliability level (IRR; Installed Reserve Rate) by using probabilistic reliability criterion (LOLE; Loss of Load Expectation). Additionally, case studies using the proposed method induce the characteristics of relationship between the probabilistic reliability index (LOLE) and deterministic reliability index (IRR) for 2008 and 2010 years in Korea power system. The case study presents a possibility that an optimum IRR level in Korea can be assessed using the proposed method. Korea power system has been using the LOLE criterion to determine the adequacy of installed capacity (ICAP) requirement. The criterion in Korea is that the loss of load expectation shall not exceed the available capacity more than five day in ten years (=0.5[days/year]), The probabilistic reliability evaluation and production cost simulation program which is called PRASim is used in order to evaluate the relationship and optimum IRR in this paper.

  • This paper presents an analytical method for finding the optimum transmission range in mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs). The results are particularly useful for the operation of military networks, as the transmission range affects the throughput, delay, and battery consumption. Plus, the proposed method allows the optimum transmission range to be determined in advance when deploying combatants with mobile terminals. And we analyze the battery life-time and the optimum transmission range under various propagation scenarios based on Hata propagation model. The proposed method obtains the optimum transmission range in a MANET based on the operational conditions.

  • The optimum cost of a reinforced concrete plane and space frames have been found by using the Genetic Algorithm (GA) method. The design procedure is subjected to many constraints controlling the designed sections (beams and columns) based on the standard specifications of the American Concrete Institute ACI Code 2011. The design variables have contained the dimensions of designed sections, reinforced steel and topology through the section. It is obtained from a predetermined database containing all the single reinforced design sections for beam and columns subjected to axial load, uniaxial or biaxial moments. The designed optimum beam sections by using GAs have been unified through MATLAB to satisfy axial, flexural, shear and torsion requirements based on the designed code. The frames' functional cost has contained the cost of concrete and reinforcement of steel in addition to the cost of the frames' formwork. The results have found that limiting the dimensions of the frame's beams with the frame's columns have increased the optimum cost of the structure by 2%, declining the re-analysis of the optimum designed structures through GA.

  • One of the important problems in the vehicle design is vehicle handling and stability. Effective parameters which should be considered in the vehicle handling and stability are roll angle, camber angle and scrub radius. In this paper, a planar vehicle model is considered that two right and left suspensions are double wishbone suspension system. For a better analysis of the suspension geometry, a kinestatic model of vehicle is considered which instantaneous kinematic and statics relations are analyzed simultaneously. In this model, suspension geometry is considered completely. In order to optimum design of double wishbones suspension system, a multi-objective genetic algorithm is applied. Three important parameters of suspension including roll angle, camber angle and scrub radius are taken into account as objective functions. Coordinates of suspension hard points are design variables of optimization which optimum values of them, corresponding to each optimum point, are obtained in the optimization process. Pareto solutions for three objective functions are derived. There are important optimum points in these Pareto solutions which each point represents an optimum status in the model. In other words, corresponding to any optimal point, a specific geometric position is determined for the suspension hard points. Each of the obtained points in the Pareto optimization can be selected for a special design purpose by designer to create an optimum condition in the vehicle handling and stability.

  • In this paper, the optimum location of the belt truss-outrigger for a combined system of framed tube, shear core and outrigger-belt truss is calculated. The optimum location is determined by maximization of the first natural frequency. The framed tube is modeled using a non-prismatic cantilever beam with hollow box cross section. The governing differential equation is solved using the weak form integral equations and the natural frequencies of the structure are calculated. The graphs are introduced for quick calculation of the first natural frequency. The location of the belt truss-outrigger that maximizes the first natural frequency of the structure is introduced as an optimum location. The structure is modeled using SAP-2000 finite elements software. In the modelling, the location of the belt truss-outrigger is changed along the height of the structure. With various locations of the outrigger, the lateral deflection of the all stories and axial force in the columns of the outer tube are calculated. The analysis is repeated by locating the outrigger-belt truss at the optimum location. The analysis results are compared and effect of the optimum location on the lateral deflection and the shear lag phenomena are investigated.

  • Optimal synthetic condition of barium sulfate were investigated from the viewpoint of yield and bulkiness according to a randomized complete block design proposed by G.E.P. Box and K.B. Wilson. Barium chloride and magnesium sulfate were utilized as reactants in order to prepare barium sulfate in this study. It was found that optimum temperature range of reactant solutions was $60{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ and the optimum concentration range of the reactant solutions was $10{\sim}17.3%$ and $10{\sim}20%$ respectively, on the viewpoint of yield and bulkiness. The optimum mole ratio of $BaCI_2$ to $BaSO_4$ was in the range of $1.50{\sim}2.0$ and the optimum mole ratio of $BaCI_2$ to $BaSO_4$ was in the range of $1.50{\sim}2.0$ and the optimum reacting time range was $15{\sim}20$ minutes. The optimum drying temperature range was $110{\sim}130^{\circ}C$ from the viewpoint of yield, but it was $90{\sim}110^{\circ}C$ on the basis of bulkiness. Apparent viscosity of barium sulfate suspensions dispersed in various concentrations of Na. CMC was measured by using Brookfield synchrolectric viscometer model LVT, the relative equation, log ${\eta}_{sp}=A+B.{\phi}$ was examined and the equation was found to agree fairly well. 1 w/v% Na. CMC aqueous solution and 0.1 volume fraction of $BaSO_4$ powder were optimum in the preparation of $BaSO_4$ suspension showing highest viscosity at infinite shearing.

  • It is one of the most economical method of soil stabilization works to compact soil, which increases soil density artificially. Compaction effort is to lessen void of soils, and consequently its aim is to enlarge friction and cohesion force, and reduce permeability of soil. Factors in compaction effort are moisture content, grain size, grain size distribution, physical properties, compaction method and temperature of soils etc. The results obtained in this study on the effects that grain size, gradation and physical properties influence upon compaction effort for 20 samples under the constant compaction method, are summarized as follows: 1. The bigger the maximum dry density is, the smaller the optimum moisture content is, on the other hand, the smaller the maximum dry densityis, the bigger the optimum moisture content is, ingeneral. 2. The coarser the grain size is, the bigger the maximum dry density is, and the optimum moisture content becomes small, and dry density-moisture content curve has the sharp peak, generally. Also, the finer the grain size is the smaller the maximum dry density is, and the optimum moisture content shows the big value, and dry density-moisture content curve has the dull peak. 3. The maximum dry density shows the biggest value on the sample to be about 15% of particles finer than No. 200 sieve. The more the percent passing of No. 10 sieve increase, the smaller the maximum dry density is. Soils which have uniformity coefficient less than 5 in particles larger than 0.074mm hardly show dry density-moisture content curve. 4. There is a relation which is ramax=2.3948-0.0376 Wopt between the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content, namely, the maximum dry density is increased in proportion to decrease of the optimum moisture content. 5. There are relations to be the straight lines which the maximum dry density decrease, on the other hand, the optimum moisture content increase in accordance with enlargement of Atterberg Limit(LL, PL, PL) in compacted soils.

  • Producing printing plate is essential progress to do offset printing. In this Film-less period, the more PS plate becomes extinct, the more the age of the Plate-Making of Exposure declines the place to stand. To do offset printing, the CTP (Computer to Plate) is taking a place of PS plate that covers speed, quality and economical problems. The biggest advantage of using CTP is that laser directly goes to the plate, thus there are no dust from the Plate-Making of Exposure. It is also theoretically able to print 200lpi${\sim}$300lpi as well as print 1751pi, because it has over 2400dpi resolution. The high quality printing could be available inside of the country, if printing machine keeps the optimum condition in offset printing. The CTP has many advantages, however there is a difficulty for the operators to preserve the equipment. The actual circumstance is that they cannot make a decision about how many dots need to be generated, and also it is necessary to know how to establish the setup at RIP on CTP to make the optimum condition output. If offset printing machine keeps the optimum condition, it would be able to print up to high quality printing however it is hard to comment what is the optimum condition for the printing machine. Anyone could say easy subjectively that machine is in the optimum condition, however it is objectively hard to estimate by number. In this research GATF / Plate Test target used to analyze the image and to make numerical value of the optimum condition of the CTP. It also used GATF / The sheep fed test printing 5.0 to know the density of the color representation, dot gain and gray balance for the optimum condition of the print machine. The purpose of this research is to represent the ISO 12647-2 which is the international standard with domestic printing equipments.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding rate on growth performance, blood components and histology of growing olive flounder. The experiment was carried out to determine the optimum feeding rate of the fish (initial fish mean weight of $97{\pm}3.0$ g) at the optimum water temperature. Two replicated groups of fish were fed commercial diet at the feeding rates of 0, 1.0, 1.65 and 2.3% body weight (BW)/day and satiation. Feeding trial was conducted under a flow-through system with ten 1.2 metric ton aquaria receiving filtered seawater at $21{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for three weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) for fish fed to satiation were significantly higher than those for the unfed fish and for fish fed at 1.0 and 1.65% BW/day. There were no significant differences in values of such parameters between fish fed at 1.65% and those fed at 2.3% BW/day and between fish fed at 2.3% and those fed to satiation. Weight gain and SGR for the unfed fish were significantly lower than those for fish in the other treatments. All the tissues (hepatopancreas, kidney and anterior intestine) were in good condition in fish fed the experimental diet at different feeding rates. This result indicates that the optimum feeding rates of olive flounder (97-160 g) was approximately 2.52% BW/day at the optimum water temperature.
