Collaborating for Science and Technology Under "One China, Two Systems"

  • Since Deng Xiaoping's implementation of the "One China, Two Systems" policy, mainland China and the other Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Macau have cooperated in various ways to work towards successfully developing China's overall economy and industries. Particularly, cooperation between Guangdong Province and adjoining Hong Kong have been contributing to China's development, and this study explores their industry conditions including their current two governments policies designed to promote collaboration. The two partners were in a cooperative relationship even before the handover of Hong Kong, beginning with a "front shop, back factory" model built on their respective comparative advantages in labor-intensive industries in the 1980s. This cooperation effectively propelled the Pearl River Delta Region's industrialization process and enabled Hong Kong to transform from a manufacturing industry-based economy to a service industry-based economy. From the early 2000s, Guangdong and Hong Kong diversified their collaboration project from culture to high-tech. Also, both authorities produced several types of policies not only to promote both industries but also to harmonize their two different economic levels and models. As a result, the Guangdong and Hong Kong economies have developed remarkably well during the past two decades and continue to form future plans that carry plenty of optimism. Nonetheless, this study showed discrepancies between engineers and scientists from the two areas in their perception of their technology and science cooperation. Hong Kong experts were more negative in their responses but noted some successes of the collaboration, while Guangdong's group showed overall positive responses. This difference results from an unbalanced role in cooperation. Hong Kong's side responds to cooperation plans and takes on leading roles with more frequency than Guangdong's side in actual cooperation project processes.

치위생(학)과 학생들의 긍정심리자본이 의사소통능력과 대인관계능력에 미치는 영향 (The effects of dental hygiene students' positive psychological capital on communication skills and interpersonal skills)

  • 본 연구는 부산광역시와 울산광역시 일부 지역 대학교 학생들의 긍정심리 자본이 의사소통 능력과 대인관계능력에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 조사하였다. 주요 변인들과의 관련성 결과 긍정심리 자본의 하위 요인과 의사소통 능력, 대인관계능력에서 정적인 상관을 모두 가지고 있어 유의미한 결과가 나타났다. 긍정심리 자본이 의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향 요인은 희망(p<0.01), 회복력(p<0.05)이 유의한 수준으로 나타났고, 긍정심리 자본이 대인관계 능력에 미치는 영향은 회복력(p<0.001), 자기효능감(p<0.05), 희망(p<0.05)이 유의한 수준으로 나타났다. 따라서 학생들의 의사소통 능력과 대인관계능력을 향상시키기 위해 긍정심리 자본의 중요성을 확립시키고, 긍정심리자본을 강화할 수 있는 중재 프로그램이 개발·적용되어야 할 것이다.

구조 방정식 모형 구축을 통한 단체급식업체 점장의 감성리더십이 조직성과에 미치는 효과성 검증 (Verification on the Effectiveness of Emotional Leadership of Branch Managers on Organizational Performance in Contracted Foodservice Company - Through the Construction of a Structural Equation Model -)

  • The purposes of this study were to provide evidence concerning the effects of Emotional Leadership and examine the impacts of Emotional Leadership on employee-related variables which were 'job satisfaction', 'organizational commitment', 'organizational performance', 'turnover intention'. A survey was conducted from August 23 to November 3, 2005 to collect data from kitchen staff(N=611). Statistical analyses were completed using SPSS Win(12.0) for descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, cluster analysis and AMOS(5.0) for structural equation modeling. Kitchen staffs gave high point to their leader in the Emotional Leadership competence 'Optimism: seeing the upside in events' and 'Adaptability: flexibility in handing change' and gave lower point in the Emotional Leadership competence 'Inspirational leadership: guiding and motivating with compelling vision'. Employees' job satisfaction on 'coworker' were relatively high. However, the extents of satisfaction on 'payroll', 'promotion', 'work environment' were relatively low. The organizational commitment score was higher at 'loyalty' factor than 'commitment' factor. the test of hypothesis using structural equation modeling found that Emotional Leadership produced positive effects on job attitude and job performance. In conclusion, this study has identified that the Emotional Leadership effects on their organizational performance and attitudes toward their job.

Model Development of Illness Perception and Consequences in Breast Cancer Patients

  • Breast cancer is the first or second malignancy among women worldwide. Illness perception (IP) and quality of life (QoL) are major issues considering breast cancer management. An attempt was here made to inspect the predictive variables influencing IP and their impact on QoL in cancer patients. The key predictors adapted from previous studies including life satisfaction, perceived social support, self-esteem, hope, optimism, and spiritual well being were taken into account. Our sample included 200 female volunteers suffering from breast cancer applying exclusion criteria. The data were collected using various questionnaires and statistically analyzed by means of path analysis and structural equation modeling. The results revealed that of the six predictors, spiritual well being and social support had direct effects on QoL and IP. The only path with significant indirect correlation with IP was social support. Spiritual well being had the second significant direct effect on IP. Self-esteem occupied the third rank in direct effects on both QoL and IP. In conclusion, here in Iran and most likely in other strongly religious communities, spiritual intervention is an effective strategy to raise QoL. Also social support helps women suffering from breast cancer to experience better conception and coping strategies.

경영자과신이 주가급락위험에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Managerial Overconfidence on Crash Risk)

  • Purpose - This paper investigates whether managerial overconfidence is associated with firm-specific crash risk. Overconfidence leads managers to overestimate the returns of their investment projects, and misperceive negative net present value projects as value creating. They even use voluntary disclosures to convey their optimistic beliefs about the firms' long-term prospects to the stock market. Thus, the overconfidence bias can lead to managerial bad news hoarding behavior. When bad news accumulates and crosses some tipping point, it will come out all at once, resulting in a stock price crash. Research design, data and methodology - 7,385 firm-years used for the main analysis are from the KIS Value database between 2006 and 2013. This database covers KOSPI-listed and KOSDAQ-listed firms in Korea. The proxy for overconfidence is based on excess investment in assets. A residual from the regression of total asset growth on sales growth run by industry-year is used as an independent variable. If a firm has at least one crash week during a year, it is referred to as a high crash risk firm. The dependant variable is a dummy variable that equals 1 if a firm is a high crash risk firm, and zero otherwise. After explaining the relationship between managerial overconfidence and crash risk, the total sample was divided into two sub-samples; chaebol firms and non-chaebol firms. The relation between how I overconfidence and crash risk varies with business group affiliation was investigated. Results - The results showed that managerial overconfidence is positively related to crash risk. Specifically, the coefficient of OVERC is significantly positive, supporting the prediction. The results are strong and robust in non-chaebol firms. Conclusions - The results show that firms with overconfident managers are likely to experience stock price crashes. This study is related to past literature that examines the impact of managerial overconfidence on the stock market. This study contributes to the literature by examining whether overconfidence can explain a firm's future crashes.

의료조직의 윤리경영과 긍정심리자본이 조직유효성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Ethical Management and Positive Psychological Capital on Organizational Effectiveness in Hospitals)

  • Background: In this study, state-owned medical institutes, industrial accident hospitals, veteran hospitals, and private medical clinics including 16 university medical institutes in the Seoul metropolitan area were selected to examine the causality of ethical management, positive psychological capital, and organizational effectiveness. Methods: The study analyzed 1,056 valid questionnaires to which a total of 1,325 nurses, medical technicians, doctors, and administrative staff in 34 healthcare organizations answered over two months from June to August 2015. The study also utilized a 'structural equation model,' and a 'hierarchical linear model' to conduct the analysis. Results: It was first found that ethical leadership, ethical management systems, and organizational ethics values, which are the three factors of ethical management, had significant influence on organizational commitment, and behavior. These are the three factors of employee organizational effectiveness. Second, ethical management, ethical leadership, ethical management systems, and organizational ethics values had significant influence on positive psychological capital. Third, positive psychological capital had significant influence on organizational commitment, turnover intention, and organizational citizenship behavior. Positive psychological capital presented an indirect effect on the relationship between the ethical management and organizational effectiveness of employees. The effect of positive psychological capital consisting of self-efficacy, hope, resilience, and optimism was confirmed in the healthcare organizations. Fourth, in relations among ethical management variables, ethical leadership showed a significant impact on ethical management systems, which had significant impacts on organizational ethics values, which had significant impacts on ethical leadership.

외식기업 종사원의 심리적 자본이 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향 - 체인레스토랑을 중심으로 - (The Effects of Psychological Capital on Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment of Foodservice Employees - Focused on Chain Restaurant -)

  • 본 연구에서는 조직성과에 근간을 이루는 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 변수로 심리적 자본을 제안하여 그 역할을 규명하고 심리적 자본과 조직몰입과의 관계에서 직무만족의 매개역할을 규명함으로써 조직몰입을 높이기 위한 구체적인 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 그 결과를 바탕으로 높은 이직률과 신규 사원 채용에 어려움을 겪고 있는 외식기업에 새로운 인적자원관리 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 설문조사는 2012년 2월 1일부터 2월 29일까지 29일간 실시하였으며, 서울시내 프랜차이즈 및 직영 형태의 기업형 외식업체의 식음료 부문과 조리 부문 종사원을 대상하였다. 자료의 처리는 SPSS 15.0과 AMOS 7.0 통계패키지를 사용하여 빈도분석, 탐색적 요인분석, 신뢰도분석, 확인요인분석, 경로분석, 상관관계분석, 매개효과 분석을 사용하였다. 그 결과 심리적 자본요인 중에서 희망과 탄력성, 낙천성이 직무만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 직무만족은 희망과 탄력성, 낙천성 사이에서 강한 매개 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

정보통신기술의 확산과 선택에 의한 정보격차 (Digitally Divided by Choice and the Diffusion of ICTs)

  • 최근 관심이 약화되고 있지만 정보격차는 정보사회 실현의 중요한 장애요인으로 지적되어 왔다. 정보격차에 대한 상반된 설명방식이라고 할 수 있는 낙관론과 비관론은 공통적으로 정보격차를 초래하는 객관적 조건에 초점을 맞추어 왔다. 그러나 접근 가능성은 객관적 조건뿐만 아니라 개인적 차원의 필요성에 대한 인식이나 의지와 같은 주관적 조건에 의해서도 달라질 수 있다는 사실은 경시되어 왔다. 인식이나 의지에 따르는 선택은 접속과 비접속을 결정하는 중요한 요인으로 작용할 수 있다. 미국의 경우 잠재적 이용자의 50% 이상이 스스로의 의지와 선택에 의해 인터넷을 사용하지 않는 것으로 알려져 있다. 우리나라의 경우에도 인터넷 사용자를 대상으로 한 조사에 따르면 '필요성을 느끼지 못해서'가 인터넷을 이용하지 않는 가장 중요한 이유로 나타났다. '이용할 시간이 없어서'라고 선택한 경우도 지속적으로 감소하고 있기는 하지만 상당한 비율을 차지하고 있으며 비 이용자들 중에서 차지하는 상대적 비중은 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 선택에 의한 정보통신 기술의 비 이용자들을 정보격차의 범위에 포함시켜야 할 것인가의 문제가 있기는 하지만 정보사회로의 진행과정에서 선택에 의한 비 이용에 관심을 기울일 필요성은 분명한 것으로 보인다.

기술준비도와 고객참여가 서비스품질, 고객만족, 서비스 재구매의도에 미치는 영향 - 패밀리레스토랑을 중심으로 (The Effect of Technology Readiness and Customer Participation on Service Quality, Customer Satisfaction and Service Repurchase Intention - Focused on Family Restaurants)

  • 본 연구는 소비자들이 기술기반 셀프서비스 상황에서 패밀리레스토랑의 서비스를 평가하는데 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인들을 다차원적으로 모색하여 패밀리레스토랑의 전략적인 운영방안을 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 기술준비도, 고객참여, 서비스품질, 고객만족, 서비스 재구매의도 간의 관계를 규명하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 기술준비도 중 낙관성과 혁신성 모두 서비스품질에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고객참여 중 감정적 참여, 물리적 참여는 서비스품질에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 정보적 참여는 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 서비스품질이 고객만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 고객만족은 서비스 재구매의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구는 기술기반 셀프서비스 상황에서 기술준비도와 고객참여의 마케팅적 유효성을 검증하였으며, 서비스품질, 고객만족, 서비스 재구매의도의 선행변수로서 가능성을 실증하였다는데 의의가 있다.

원예종묘산업의 현황과 발전전망 (Present Status and Prospects of Horticultural Seed Industry)

  • The horticultural seed industry has made great progress in the last fifty years of its history after the independence of this country. The industry has accomplished self-sufficiency in major vegetable seeds and has even gained international competitive edge in certain crop seeds, particularly in hybrid cultivar development. However, the industry is facing a crisis at present coming from excessive competition among the domestic seed companies as well as the foreign currency crisis of the country. Several major seed companies have already been acquired by multinational corporations. Many people in the country as well as agriculturists are concerned about this situation. Although it is true that the industry is undergoing hard times, this crisis can be turned into a chance for making new progress depending on the joint efforts of the groups responsible, i.e., private companies, public institutions, and policy makers. Therefore, we have to turn this crisis into an opportunity for self-reform and progress. We should not be discouraged or give up. We Propose some ideas for the Progress of the seed industry. Public institutions and policy makers should do such things in cooperation as 1) training human resources for future breeders, 2) securing a wide range of genetic resources and improvement of the management system, 3) basic science research including biotechnology, 4) releasing breeding stocks from germplasm enhancement through use of exotic accessions, 5) support for breeding region- or use-specific cultivars, and 6) collection of foreign agricultural information for breeding cultivars for overseas markets. Eventually the responsible group for the final development of commercial cultivars, production, sales and management is private companies. Therefore, private companies also should have to do their best to develop competitive cultivars with a missionary spirit and endeavor for both domestic and overseas markets in cooperation with public institutions. Management based on competition, professionalism and rationalism is also urged. We are going to conclude with optimism that we can make a new vault of progress once the private and public sectors closely cooperate for the development of Korean horticultural seed industry by overcoming this crisis.
