Organic agriculture seeks sustainable agriculture. Organic agriculture is based on circulating agriculture of a family farm unit. However, as of the end of 2016, only 33 out of the total organic farming farms were implementing Crop-Livestock cycling organic farming. The reason seems to be a matter of income after all. The optimal size combination refers to the scale by which family farms can maintain their quality of life while engaging in farming activities. In other words. it is a farm scale that maintains optimal income through stable labor costs. In the meantime, there has been no previous study on the optimal economical combination of Crop-Livestock cycling farming. Choi (2016) analyzed whether the economies of scope (EOS) were realized in the combined production by using the management data of the farmers who practiced Crop-Livestock cycling organic farming for four years. As a result, it has been revealed that the EOS measurement value is 0 or more so the economies of scope are being realized. Therefore, the purpose of this empirical analysis is to identify farm incomes under this circumstance. It is assumed that the optimum production is achieved by balancing the total income curve and the total cost curve in the optimal scale production range. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the income after the conversion to Crop-Livestock cycling farming was 44,789,280 won, the sum of the seedling-livestock sector, which was 17,873,120 won higher when the non-Crop-Livestock cycling farming was assumed. The same is true for 2014 and 2015. The reason for this is that pig droppings were composted from organic seedlings, and the cost of selling pork was 150,000 won/per pig more expensive even though the manufacturing cost of organic feeds was higher than the purchasing cost. Secondly, this study simulated the result that the economic index varies when the farm size combination is changed by the farm size of 100% standard (S100) as of 2014. S130 is the increase in size from 100% of 2014, whereas S30 is the result of 3ha crop and 66 livestock (pigs). As a result of this simulation, Crop-Livestock cycling farming income decreased more than non-Crop-Livestock cycling farming as the farm size decreased, whereas the income decreased as the farm size increased. When the size was reduced below S50, the income tended to decrease. In this situation, EOS changed in the same direction. The results showed that when the farming size was reorganized and reduced to 50% compared to 2014, the income and income difference was the highest. At the same time, economies of scope (EOS) were the highest at 0.12985. In other words, it was found that the income of farm houses in a family farm unit sector was the best in the combination of 1.5ha crop agriculture and 110 livestock (pigs).
There may be a lor of studies on the economic design of ship for the most favorable combination of design basis on the owner's request. However, there are few on the economical ship's size and speed for the ship owner's stand point. This paper describes on the optimal ship's size and speed to the given marine commercial environments for the owner's requirement to the shipyard. As the result of the paper, the criterion curve of bulk carrier will also be used to assess existing ships for their profitability.

Many kind of springs are used in the suspension of automotive vehicles and among these the leaf spring and the air spring are included. These two springs have not been generally used together in one suspension, but recently the automotive models which use these two springs together increase. This reason is due to the merit of the combination of two type springs. The merits are two. One is the character of air spring, that is, the natural frequen- cy of system is constant in spite of variable weight. The other is the character of leaf spring, that is, the suspension mechanism is simple. The combination spring is used in medium size and special purpose bus. In this paper, we formulate the condition which the leaf spring must satisfy to be optimal design in the combination spring. And experiment is performed to prove the theory. The results are that the combination spring is better than leaf spring in the ride, and that the purposed theory is good for the combination spring design.
The maximum butt-joint gap size in $CO_2$ laser beam welding of SAPH steel plates with different thicknesses and its bending formability were studied. In the range of the gap size$\geq$0.1mm, the optimal butt welding speed was faster than that of no gap (air gap) condition. This behaviour was independent on the difference of thickness at any combination. Also, the allowable gap size in steel plates with different thicknesses was larger than with same thicknesses. In the range of $T/T_0$(bead shape) $\geq$ 0.8, good bending formability was obtained at any combination of thickness. The formability was improved by reducing the hardness in weld bead using pre-heating process. Finally, FEM result of the laser beam welded underframe with different thicknesses was compared to that of the conventional spot welded underframe.

Analysis is performed to determine the optimal lengths or cross-sectional areas of refrigerator-cooled current leads that can be applied to the conduction-cooled superconducting systems. The binary current lead is composed of the series combination of a normal metal at the upper(warm) part and a high $T_c$ superconductor(HTS) at the lower(cold) part. The heat conduction toward the cold end of HTS part constitutes a major refrigeration load. In addition, the joint between the parts should be cooled by a refrigerator in order to reduce the load at the low end and maintain the HTS part in a superconducting state. The sum of the work inputs required for the two refrigeration loads needs to be minimized for an optimal operation. In this design, three simple models that depict the refrigeration performance as functions of cooling temperature are developed based on some of the existing refrigerators. By solving one-dimensional conduction equation that take into account the temperature-dependent properties of the materials, the refrigeration works are numerically calculated for various values of the joint temperature and the sizes of two parts. The results show that for given size of HTS, there exist the optimal values for the joint temperature and the size of the normal metal. It is also found that the refrigeration work decreases as the length of HTS increases and that the optimal size of normal metal is quite independent of the size of HTS. For a given length of HTS, there is an optimal cross-sectional area and it increases as the length increases. The dependence of the optimal sizes on the refrigerator models employed are presented for 1kA leads.
Schools are one of favorable public buildings for Renewable Energy(RE) systems due to site conditions and their energy demand profiles(e.g. daytime-based use of hot water and heating/cooling). Although the government encourages schools to be equipped with RE systems, the adoption of RE systems in existing energy supply systems faces technical and financial barriers. For example, when installing a RE-based combination system(RECS) to meet the energy demand at various school scales, identifying cost effective combination of capacities of the RECS is not trivial since it usually requires technically intensive work including detailed simulation and demand/supply analysis with extensive data. This kind of simulation-based approaches is hardly implementable in practice. To address this, a simpler and applicable decision-supporting method is suggested in this study. This paper presents a simplified model in support of decision-making for optimal capacities of RECS within given budget scales and schools sizes. The proposed model was derived from detailed simulation results and statistical data. Using this model, the optimal capacities of RECS can be induced from the number of classes in a school.
We compare the relative usefulness of common basis functions and numerical integration methods in representing complex resonance state encountered in the molecular scattering problem of aluminum dimer electronic predissociation. Specifically, the basis set size and computing CPU times are monitored in order to find the minimum requirement for ensuring the modest accuracy of calculated resonance energies (0.1 $cm^{-1}$) for more than 100 resonance states. The combination of the so-called one-dimensional box eigenfunctions and energy-dependent boundary functions are found to be most efficient if integration is done using the basis set quadrature rules.

In this paper, the scheme for designing optimal beamforming matrix for interference control is proposed. The optimal beamforming matrix is found though linear combination of interference alignment conditions and renewal of linear combination coefficient. The proposed scheme has advantages that the complexity is reduced and there is no multiplying operation in matrix calculations even if proposed scheme has the form similar to that of existing least square based scheme. The simulation results show that proposed scheme has about 4bps/Hz higher gain than existing least square scheme. Also there is no additional multiplying calculation and increase of matrix size when the number of transmit and receive antennas is increased.
In this paper, a method to determine the optimal configuration of operating policies in an integrated-automated manufacturing system using the Taguchi method and computer simulation experiments is presented. An integrated-automated manufacturing system called direct-input-output manufacturing system(DIOMS) is described. We only consider the operational aspect of the DIOMS. Four operating policies including input sequencing control, dispatching rule for the storage/retrieval(S/R) machine, machine center-based part type selection rule, and storage assignment policy are treated as design factors. The number of machine centers, the number of part types, demand rate, processing time and the rate of each part type, vertical and horizontal speed of the S/R machine, and the size of a local buffer in the machine centers are considered as noise factors in generating various manufacturing system environment. For the performance characteristics, mean flow time and throughput are adopted. A robust design experiment with inner and outer orthogonal arrays are conducted by computer simulation, and an optimal configuration of operating policies is presented which consists of a combination of the level of each design factor. The validity of the optimal configurations is investigated by comparing their signal-to-noise ratios with those obtained with full factorial designs.
Purpose: This paper is concerned with optimally designing accelerated degradation test (ADT) plans based on a gamma process for the degradation model. Methods: By minimizing the asymptotic variance of the MLE of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition, the test stress levels and the proportion of test units allocated to each stress level are optimally determined. Results: The optimal plans of ADT are developed for various combination of parameters. In addition, a method for determining the sample size is developed, and sensitivity analysis procedures are illustrated with an example. Conclusion: It is important to optimally design ADT based on a gamma process under the condition that a degradation process should be always nonnegative and strictly increasing over time.
