  • Recently most of researches for deep drawing process using sheet metal have been performed on the formability of axisymmetric shape but there have not been any concrete reports on the formability of non-axisymmetric shape In addition the conventional shape radius of the punch and die has been determined by the trying-and-error using industrial experimence and post processing test and only approximate shape radius of the punch and die has been determined by the trying-and-error using industrial experience and post processing test and only approximate shape radius of the punch and die has been present So in this study the optimal shape radius of the punch and die in deep drawing process with biaxisymmetric blank shape would be proposed. Through the deep drawing experiment it is found that in order to obtain the optimal products especially shape radius of the punch and die in all processes is very important.

  • In this study, a procedure to design an optimal LCVA that maximizes the equivalent damping ratio added to the primary structure subjected to along-wind excitation is proposed. That design procedure does not only consider the natural frequency and damping ratio of the LCVA, but also the proportion of the U-shaped liquid, which is closely related to the participation ratio of the liquid mass in inertial force. In addition, constraints to ensure the U-shape of the liquid are considered in the design process, so that suboptimal solutions that violate the optimal tuning law partly are adopted as a candidate of the optimal LCVA. The proposed design procedure of the LCVA is applied to the control of the 76-story benchmark building, and the optimal proportions of the liquid shape under various design conditions are compared.

  • In this paper, Shape optimal design for a chair with 4 legs and 2 stretchers consisting of stainless steel was conducted. The shape was transformed by identifying stress and deformation for the part of leg and stretcher. In addition, load condition and mesh was designed using Hypermesh. The stress analysis was carried out using CSD_Elast that is one of EDISON program. In seat test, Maximum equivalent stress was showed at the contact part between seat and legs. As a result, a leg cross-section with rectangular and arch was designed. And optimal height of stretcher was found to reduce a deformation. Also, maximum deformation was reduced by designing a stretcher with ellipse cross-section. So, Optimal chair having 4 legs with rectangular cross section and 2 stretchers with ellipse cross section was shown to satisfy the safety ratio.

  • The sensitivity method has been utilized to find initial blank shapes which transform into desired shapes after forming. From the information of die shapes, target shape and material properties, the corresponding initial blank which gives final shape after deformation has been found. Drawings of a trapezoidal cup, a cross-shaped cup and an oil pan have been chosen as the examples. At every case the optimal blank shape has been obtained only a few times of modification without any predetermined deformation path. With the predicted optimal blank, both computer simulation and experiment are performed. Excellent agreements are recognized between simulation and experiment at every cases Through the investigation, the sensitivity method is found to be effective in obtaining optimal blank shapes in drawing of complex shapes.

  • In order to obtain the optimal products in deep drawing process elliptical deep drawing tests were carried out with several shape radii of the punch and die. As parameters on testing shape radii of the punch and die were selected, In addition the conventional shape radii have been determined by trial=and-error using industrial experience and post processing test and only approximate shape radii of the punch and die have been presented. The optimal shape radii of the punch and die in elliptical deep drawing process with biaxisymmetric blank shape are proposed. In this study we suggest the appropriate conditions to be applicable to the catual manufacturing processes through the experiment and finite element method.

  • A systematic method to find the optimal blank shape for sheet forming is proposed by coupling the numerical simulation technique. A weighted parameter was introduced in order to simplify the multi-variable optimization problem to a single-variable problem. The proposed method has been applied to the blank design of drawing processes to obtain the near-net shape within the required error bound after forming, Excellent results have been obtained between the numerical results and the target contour shapes. Through the investigation the proposed systematic method for optimal blank design is found to be effective in the practical forming processes

  • Near net shape forming of 316L stainless steel powder was investigated under hot isostatic pressing. To simulate densification and deformation of a powder compact in a container during hot isostatic pressing, the constitutive model of Abouaf and co-workers was implemented into a finite element analysis. An optimal design technique based on the design sensitivity was applied to the container design during hot isostatic pressing. The optimal shape of the container was predicted from the desired final shape of a powder compact by iterative calculations. Experimental data of 316L stainless steel powder showed that the optimally designed container allowed precise forming of the desired powder compact during hot isostatic pressing.

  • This paper deals with the development of a realistic shape optimization of damaged columns that are subjected to conservative and non-conservative forces, using the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The analysis is based on the design of the most optimized shape of the column under the constraint of constant weight, considering the Static, Vibrational, and Flutter characteristics. Under the action of conservative and non-conservative longitudinal forces, an elastic column loses its stability. A numerical analysis based on FEM has been performed on a uniform damaged column, to compute the fundamental buckling load, vibration frequency, and flutter load, under various end restraints. An optimization search based on the Genetic Algorithm is then executed, to find the optimal shape design of the column. The optimized column references the one having the highest buckling load, highest vibration frequency, and highest flutter load, among all the possible shapes of the column, for a given volume. A comparison is then made between the values obtained for the optimized damaged column, and those obtained for the optimized undamaged column. The comparison reveals that the incorporation of damage in the column alters its optimal shape to only a certain extent. Also, the critical load and frequency values for the optimized damaged column are comparatively low, compared with those obtained for the optimized undamaged column. However, these results hold true only for moderate-intensity damage cases. For high intensity damage, the optimal shape may not remain the same, and may vary, according to the severity of damage.
