  • The object color does not look same under the different light source. It depends on the surface spectral reflectance and the spectral distribution of light source. Therefore we should find the surface spectral reflectance of object color and the spectral distribution of light source for color reproduction. Using Winer estimation, we can reconstruct the spectral reflectance from low dimensional images obtained with a few filters. The kind and the number of filters have the effect on the estimation of the spectral reflectance. Therefore it is important that optimal filters are selected to minimize the error of the result. In this paper, we describe methods to select optimal filters with minimum error between measured and estimated surface spectral reflectance and to estimate surface spectral reflectance of Munsell color from six band images by using Wiener estimation.

  • In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm based on parameter estimation mode to obtain optimal control parameter is presented. First, The control input for the system in the HFC is a convex combination of the FLC's output in transient state and PID's output in steady state by a fuzzy variable, namely, membership function of weighting coefficient. Second, genetic algorithms is presented to automatically improve the performance of hybrid fuzzy controller utilizing the conventional methods for finding PID parameters and estimation mode of scaling factor. The algorithms estimates automatically the optimal values of scaling factors, PID parameters and membership function parameters of fuzzy control rules according to the rate of change and limitation condition of control input. Computer simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed hybrid fuzzy controller. ITAE, overshoot and rising time are used as a performance index of controller.

  • Based on the fact that audio signals in the time domain have the generalized Gaussian distribution. an optimal parameter estimation of the ML (maximum likelihood) test based audio watermark decoder. which leads to the minimal bit error rate, is Proposed. Its superiority of performance over the existing estimation and the conventional correlation based decoder is demonstrated experimentally.

  • The estimation of the response curve is the important problem in the quantal bioassay. When we estimate the response curve, we determine the design points in advance of the experiment. Then naturally we have a question of which design would be optimal. As a response curve estimator, locally weighted quasi-likelihood estimator has several more appealing features than the traditional nonparametric estimators. The optimal design density for the locally weighted quasi-likelihood estimator is derived and its ability both in theoretical and in empirical point of view are investigated.

  • Step feed process was analyzed stoichiometrically for the optimal operation conditions in this study. In case of optimal operation conditions, minimum R (sludge recycling) value, r (internal recycling ratio) value, and n (influent allocation ratio) value for the step feed process to acquire the maximum TN removal efficiency were identified by theoretical analysis. Maximum TN removal efficiency, based on stoichiometric reaction, can be obtained by controlling n value for the step feed process.

  • In this paper we study the estimation problem of individual weights of objects using an A-optimal chemical balance weighing design. We assume that in this model errors are correlated and they have the same variances. The lower bound of tr$(X'G^{-1}X)^{-1}$ is obtained and a necessary and sufficient condition for this lower bound to be attained is given. There is given new construction method of A-optimal chemical balance weighing design.

  • This paper considers the problem of the optimal input design for parameter estimtion in the ARMAX model in which the system and noise transfer function have the common denominator polynomial. Deriving the information matrix, in detail, for the assumed model structure and using the autocorrelation functin of the filtered input as design variables, it is shown that D-optimal input signal can be realized as an autoregressive moving average process. Computer simulations are carried out to show the standard-deviation reduction in the parameter estimtes using the optimal input signal.

  • Two data-based bandwidth selectors which are optimal in the sense that they achieve n$\^$-$\frac{1}{2}$/ rate of convergence in kernel density estimation are proposed. The proposed bandwidth selectors are constructed by modifying Park and Marron's plug-in method. The first modification is taking Taylor expansion of the mean integrated squared error to two more terms than in the case of plug-in method. The second is estimating more accurately the functionals of the unknown density appeared in the minimizer of the expansion by using higher order kernels. The proposed bandwidth selectors were proved to be optimal in terms of convergence rate. According to small-sample Monte Carlo studies, the proposed bandwidth selectors showed better performance than all the other bandwidth selectors considered in the simulation.

  • This paper presents the digital implementation of an optimal and robust VSS controller with sliding observer. Firstly, a discrete-time VSS control law which enables the system state to move into a sliding sector where the closed-loop system is stable is designed. Then optimal control theory is used to design an optimal sliding sector. Secondly, a sliding observer which provide robust state estimation against model-plant mismatches due to parameter uncertainties is designed for the sampled-data multivariable systems. Finally, modified sliding observer which effectively reduce chattering of state variables in state estimation was proposed. The proposed scheme was applied 10 a two degree of freedom inverted pendulum with passive joint to verify robust motion control. Computer simulation results confirm the viability of the proposed observer-based controller.
