In this paper, a near optimal decentralized observer-controller design method is proposed for ramp metering systems based on SDRE (State Dependent Riccati Equation) approach. The optimal nonlinear observer gain is parameterized in terms of the solution matrix of an SDRE. This paper gives a simple algorithm to compute the near optimal observer gain. The optimal control design problem is also considered. Finally, numerical simulation results are given to illuminate the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed design method.
In this paper, we discuss decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control issues on the basis of failure analysis and diagnosis from the angle of discrete event dynamic system. We address the detectability and the observability problems, and develope fault tolerant supervisory control system upon the failure analysis and diagnosis schemes. A complete min-cut is introduced and the procedure for finding the achievable or nonachievable layered optimal legal sublanguages is suggested for a preferential option among the reachable states in the controlled plant. A layered optimal supervisory control framework is proposed upon these. We extend the concept of decentralized supervisory control by considering the problem of combination of decentralized with centralized control in case pure decentralized control happens to be inadequate. We introduce the concept of locally controllable pair and present a hybrid decentralized supervisory control framework. Finally, we propose the analytical framework for a decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control systems.
A method to determine an optimal temperature trajectory that guarantees polymer products having controlled molecular weight distribution and desired values of molecular weight is presented. The coordinate transformation method and the optimal control theory are applied to a batch PMMA polymerization system to calculate the optimal temperature trajectory. Coordinate transformation method converts the original fixed-end-point, free-end-time problem to a free-end-point, fixed-end-time problem. The idea is that by making the reactor temperature track the optimal temperature trajectory one may be able to produce polymer products having the prespecified physical property in a minimum time. The on-line control experiments with the PID control algorithm have been conducted to establish the validity of the scheme proposed in this study. The experimental results show that prespecified polymer product could be obtained with tracking the calculated optimal temperature trajectory.

This study suggests the Link weight analysis approach to choose input variables and an integrated model to make more accurate bankruptcy prediction model. the Link weight analysis approach is a method to choose input variables to analyze each input node's link weight which is the absolute value of link weight between an input nodes and a hidden layer. There are the weak-linked neurons elimination method, the strong-linked neurons selection method in the link weight analysis approach. The Integrated Model is a combined type adapting Bagging method that uses the average value of the four models, the optimal weak-linked-neurons elimination method, optimal strong-linked neurons selection method, decision-making tree model, and MDA. As a result, the methods suggested in this study - the optimal strong-linked neurons selection method, the optimal weak-linked neurons elimination method, and the integrated model - show much higher accuracy than MDA and decision making tree model. Especially the integrated model shows much higher accuracy than MDA and decision making tree model and shows slightly higher accuracy than the optimal weak-linked neurons elimination method and the optimal strong-linked neurons selection method.

In this paper, an engine-CVT integrated control algorithm is suggested by considering the powertrain loss, inertia torque and the CVT ratio response lag. The integrated control algorithm consists of (1) the optimal engine power calculation and (2) determining of the optimal throttle valve opening and the optimal CVT ratio. The optimal engine power is obtained by compensating the inertia torque due to the CVT ratio change and the powertrain loss that is calculated iteration procedure. In addition, an algorithm to compensate the effect of the CVT ratio response lag on the drive torque is suggested by the engine speed compensation causing the increased optimal CVT ratio. Simulation results show that the engine-CVT integrated control algorithm developed in this study makes it possible to obtain better engine operation on the optimal operating line, which results in the improved fuel economy while satisfying the driver's demand.
Drag reduction on vehicles are the main concern for the body shape designers in order to lower the fuel consumption rate and to aid the driving stability. The drag of bluff bodies like transportation vehicles is mostly pressure drag due to the flow separation, which can be minimized by controlling the location and size of the separation bubble. In the present study, the TURBO-3D code is incorporated with optimal algorithm based on analytical approximation method to obtain an optimal afterbody shape of the MIRA Model corresponding to the lowest drag coefficient. For this purpose three mutually independent afterbody angles are chosen as design variables, while the drag coefficient is chosen as an objective function. It is demonstrated in the present study that an optimal body shape having the lowest drag coefficient which is about 6% lower than that of the original shape has been successfully obtained within number of iterations of tile optimal design loop.
Most of the control problem is for the redundant manipulators use the pseudo-inverse control, thit is, the redundancy is resolved by the pseudo-inverse of the Jacobian matrix and then the controller is designed based on this resolution. However, this pseudo-inverse control has some problems when the redundant robot repeats the cyclic tasks. This is because the pseudo-inverse resolution is a local solution that generates the different configurations of the robot arm for the same hand position. Therefore it is necessary to find the global solution that maintains the optimal configuration of the robot for the repetitive tasks. In this paper, we want to propose a redundancy resolution method by the optimal theory that uses the calculus of variation. The problem formulations are : first to convert the optimal resolution problem to an optimal control problem and then to resolve the redundancy using the necessary conditions of optimal control.
This paper proposes a 3-PPR planar parallel manipulator, which consists of three active prismatic Joints, three passive prismatic joints, and three passive rotational joints. The analysis of the kinematics and the optimal design of the manipulator are also discussed. The proposed manipulator has the advantages of the closed type of direct kinematics and a void-free workspace with a convex type of borderline. For the kinematic analysis of the proposed manipulator, the direct kinematics, the inverse kinematics, and the inverse Jacobian of the manipulator are derived. After the rotational limits and the workspaces of the manipulator are investigated, the workspace of the manipulator is simulated. In addition, for the optimal design of the manipulator, the performance indices of the manipulator are investigated, and then an optimal design procedure Is carried out using Min-Max theory. Finally. one example using the optimal design is presented.

Decision problem called an optimal release policies, after testing a software system in development phase and transfer it to the user, is studied. The applied model of release time exploited infinite non-homogeneous Poisson process. This infinite non-homogeneous Poisson process is a model which reflects the possibility of introducing new faults when correcting or modifying the software. The failure life-cycle distribution used superposition which has various intensity, if the system is complicated. Thus, software release policies which minimize a total average software cost of development and maintenance under the constraint of satisfying a software reliability requirement becomes an optimal release policies. In a numerical example, after trend test applied and estimated the parameters using maximum likelihood estimation of inter-failure time data, estimated software optimal release time. Through this study, in terms of superposition model and simply model, the optimal time to using superposition model release the software developer to determine how much could count will help.

The present research deals with structural analysis and optimal design of the heating drum of a hot-rolling press for medium density fiberboard. Stress concentration in the journal of the heating drum is analyzed by the submodel technique of the finite element method. The fatigue life under operating conditions is analyzed and evaluated by the stress-life theory. Shape optimal design problems, to minimize the maximum stress occurring in the journal, are formulated and shape parameters of the corner fillets of the journal are defined as the design variables. The problems are solved by the numerical optimization method and optimal shapes are found. The optimal designs are shown to be reliable in terms of the maximum stress and the fatigue life.
