  • In this paper, we introduce a passive transponder in which an LED is used for both a light transmitter and a receiver, and a solar cell is used for supplying power to the all devices in the transponder. The LED in the transponder operates as a photodetector in the receiving mode, and acts as a light source in the transmitting mode. The current responsivity of the LED detector was measured to be in the order of $10^{-4}A/W$, and the receiving bandwidth with a load resistance of $10k{\Omega}$ was about 10 to 30 kHz. Using the LED for an optical transceiver in a VLID transponder, the detection range was about 70 cm when the transponder was illuminated by the visible light from a $3{\times}3$ LED array in a reader.

An algorithm based on wavelet transform suitable for real time implementation has been developed in order to detect ECG characteristics. In particular, QRS complex, S and T waves may be distinguished form noise, baseline drift or artifacts. Proposed telemetry system that a transmitting media using radio frequency(RF) for the middle range measurement of the physiological signals and receiving media using optical for electromagnetic interference problem. A standard hi-directional serial communication interface between the telemetry system and a personal computer or laptop, allows read-time controlling, diagnosing and monitoring of system. A portable telemetry system within a size. of 65${\times}$125${\times}$45mm consists of three parts: a digital signal processing part for physiological signal detect or diagnose, RF transmitter for data transfer and a optical receiver for command receive. Advantages of proposed telemetry system is wireless middle range(50m) FM transmission, reduce electromagnetic interference to a minimum. which enables a comfortable diagnosis system at home.

  • The digital transmission system entered in a RF region as digital system use IC chips of the speeder edge rate and clock speed nowadays. Optical path really was used in order to obtain the more capacity. In this paper, we described importance of electrical interconnect to get the signal integrity in optical module by simulation and experiment. 12 channel${\times}$2.5 G/ps optical parallel transmitter modules were manufactured by two different method ; access lines with microstrip and stripline type. We have clearly shown that the optical module adopting microstrip type with S$\sub$11/ $\geq$ -10 dB presents distortion but the optical module adopting stripline type with S$\sub$11/ $\leq$ : 15 dB obtains eye opening in 2.5 Gbis optical eye pattern response.

  • In this paper, an 1.5Gbit/s wireless data transmission system using the carrier frequency of 300 GHz band was implemented. The RF front-end was composed of schottky diode sub-harmonic mixer, frequency tripler, and horn antennas for transmitter and receiver, respectively. The LO frequencies of sub-harmonic mixer are 150GHz for transmit chain and 156GHz for receive chain. The ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) modulation was used in the transmitter and the envelope detection method was used in the heterodyne receiver. The conversion loss of sub-harmonic mixer and implementation system loss were measured to be 9.8dB and 1.2dB, respectively. The 1.5Gbit/s video signal with HD-SDI format was transmitted over wireless distance of 40cm without optical lens(4.2m with optical lens) and displayed on HDTV at the transmitted average output power of $20{\mu}W$.

  • We have experimentally demonstrated the transmission performance of a feedforward optical transmitter using an external light injection technique. The feedforward compensation method shows 31 dB intermodulation distortion suppression and 2.2 dB noise reduction. A high side-mode suppression ratio exceeding 35 dB of the wavelength of the locked Fabry-Perot laser diode was obtained over 12 nm ranges. The suppression characteristics of the intermodulation distortion for various wavelength differences and transmission lengths were measured and analyzed as the evaluation criteria for the system performance in WDM/SCM based radio-over-fiber systems.

  • Recently, VLC(Visible Light Communication) fusing with LED(Light Emitting Diode) used in indoor lighting and wireless communication technology has attracted attention. However, the VLC can communicate only within the coverage to measure the optical signal and the communication disconnection phenomenon is occur in the NLoS(Non-Line-of-Sight) area. In this paper, we propose VLC relay module to extend the coverage of VLC and improve the communication disconnection phenomenon in NLoS area. The proposed VLC relay module transmits the packet received from the transmitter to the VLC relay module and receiver. The experiment was carried out by installing one VLC transmitter and three VLC relay modules, communication coverage expansion and the improvement of communication disconnection phenomenon in the NLoS were confirmed by the increase of the VLC relay module. Also, we confirmed that the optical signal measurement performance is improved 2.4 times by using the dual sampling method.

  • This paper presents a study on adapting optical communication technology using infrared ray for the enhancement of hearing aids in noisy environment. The transmitter module containing microphone and infrared ray-emitting diode converts audio signal to infrared optical signal and sends it out in the air. The receiver module located in a distance receives the infrared signal, converts it to electrical signal, and transfers it to an input of a digital hearing aid. Especially, the receiver module needs to be small, low voltage, and consume low power since it will be attached to hearing aids. Experiments with applying infrared communication technology of digital modulation method and analog non-modulation method show that the analog non-modulation method is adequate for infrared communication of approximately 5m distance indoor. Prototypes of transmitter module and receiver module were manufactured, and internal parameters of the digital hearing aid were adjusted to confirm normal transmit-receive operation of audio signals.

  • This paper is concerned with the relationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time in time division multiplexing(TDM) scheduling on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) optical passive star networks. We assume that the traffic is nonuniform and each node has a tunable transmitter and a fixed receiver. Each node transmits spckets to all other nodes. Most of the earlier protocols on TDM based scheduling for WDM star networks [7, 8, etc.] use whold given wavelength chnnels. But in this paper, we investigate the optimal number of wavelengths that yidels minimum frame length when tuning time exists. It appears within the availble number of wavelengths that yields minimum frame length when tuning time exists. It appears within the available number of wavelengths. We analyze the relationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time by experiments. We analyze the reationships between optimal number of wavelengths and tuning time by experiments. We also discuss on the possibility of reduction of frame length by increasing the number of nodes trans-mitters and receivers.

  • LED-to-LED VLC is a technology that uses LEDs as both a transmitter and a receiver unlike the typical VLCs. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a micro LED-to-LED VLC using Micro LED. We tested all the possible VLC cases using red, yellow, green, blue, and white color LED as both a transmitter and a receiver, and measured rise time and SNR. Then we calculated channel capacity depending on the LED color sets. Our experimental results show that the best channel capacity is 125 kbps when the transmitter micro LED was blue and the receiver LED was green. We also measured BERs of VLCs using OFDM signal, and we showed a successful micro LED-to-LED VLC upto 250 kbps.
