In this paper, we propose an efficient sequencing technique, namely minimum Row time scheduling (MFTS), to manage variable-Iength message transmissions for single-hop passive starcoupled WDM optical networks. By considering not only the message length but also the state of the receivers and the tuning latency, the proposed protocol can reduce the average delay of the network greatly. This paper also introduces a new channel assignment technique latency minimizing scheduling (LMS), which aims to reduce the scheduling latency. We evaluate the proposed algorithm, using extensive discrete-event simulations, by comparing its performance with shortest job first (SJF) algorithm. We find that significant improvement in average delay could be achieved by MFTS algorithm. By combining the proposed message sequencing technique with the channel selection technique, the performance of the optical network could be further improved.

Device makers want to make higher density chips as devices shrink, especially WSix poly stack down is one of the key issues. However, EPD (End Point Detection) time delay was happened in DPS+ poly chamber which is a barrier to achieve device shrink because EPD time delay killed test pattern and next generation device. To investigate the EPD time delay, a test was done with patterned wafers. This experimental was carried out combined with OES(Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). OES was used to find corrected wavelength in WSix stack down gate etching. SEM was used to confirm WSix gate profile and gate oxide damage. Through the experiment, a new wavelength (252nm) line of plasma is selected for DPS+ chamber to call correct EPD in WSix stack down gate etching for current device and next generation device.
A tunable optical delay line is designed, fabricated, and characterized. The tunable delay line consists of four polymer-ring add/drop filters with delay waveguides between adjacent ones. The polymer waveguide is a buried structure, designed to be square with core width and height of $1.8{\mu}m$. The refractive indices of the core and cladding polymer are 1.48 and 1.37 respectively. The large index difference and small cross section of the waveguide enable us to realize a compact device using a small radius of curvature. Four pairs of electrodes are evaporated above the add/drop filters to provide heating currents for thermal tuning. In measurements we can identify variable time delays of 110, 225, and 330 ps in proportion to the number of delay lines.

The objective of this study is to develop a new type of buried sensor module that can directly assess pre-stressed concrete by measuring strain using a hetero-core optical fiber sensor. In this regard, experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the sensor using an exposure sensor module. Based on the experimental results, when the values of the displacement control velocity were 0.12 mm/min and 1.80 mm/min, the corresponding delays in the measurement were 52.1 s and 2.6 s respectively, which indicated that the maximum delay between the two measurements was a factor of 19. Due to the measurement delay phenomena, the sensor module used in the experiments cannot be employed to check the real-time state of the structure. Thus, additional experiments were needed to develop a new sensor module that can measure the real-time state of the structure. To investigate the cause of the measurement delay phenomena, three experiments were conducted. It was confirmed that measurement delay is mainly attributed to frictional resistance. The measurement delay phenomena were not observed in the experiments using the friction-removed device.
We fabricated and characterized a compact endoscopic catheter for optical coherence tomography. The optical delay line (ODL), composed of a cylindrical piezoelectric transducer (PZT) and an optical fiber, was operated with a 1 kHz sinusoidal driving wave in the time-domain. When the ODL was driven with a sinusoidal wave function, the axial scanning speed was 6 m/s and the axial acquisition rate was 2000 line/s at a depth of about 3 mm. Endoscopic OCT images of a human finger and earhole were successfully obtained with an image rate of ten frames per second.

This paper proposes a path planning algorithm to reduce the inspection time of AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) machines for SMT (Surface Mount Technology) in-line system. Since the field-of-view of the camera attached at the machine is much less than the entire inspection region of board, the inspection region should be clustered to many groups. The image acquisition time depends on the number of groups, and camera moving time depends on the sequence of visiting the groups. The acquired image is processed while the camera moves to the next position, but it may be delayed if the group includes many components to be inspected. The inspection delay has influence on the overall job time of the machine. In this paper, we newly considers the inspection delay time for path planning of the inspection machine. The unified approach using genetic algorithm is applied to generates the groups and visiting sequence simultaneously. The chromosome, crossover operator, and mutation operator is proposed to develop the genetic algorithm. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

We have proposed a tunable optical ADM using a fiber-optic transversal filter which is composed of fiber couplers and metal-film coated fiber-optic tapped delay-lines with a flat spectral response in abroad range of wavelength. Simulation results show that the optical loss at the DROP and PASS wavelengths of the OADM is negligible and the wavelength tunability is 0.78${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/ps for the unit time delay of 2 ps. In order to investigate the effects of wavelength drift of the imput optical signal on the OADM the loss at the DROP port and the crosstalks to the other ports have been calculated. The maximum bit rates have been calculated at 46.26 Gb/s for the input Gaussian pulse width of 10 ps.
Using various offset times to separate differential services is the most common form of service differentiation in optical burst switching networks. In this approach, a larger offset time is given to a higher priority burst, but it causes this burst to have a longer delay. One solution to this problem is to adjust the burst assembly time so that the buffering delay of the higher priority burst is always shorter than that of the lower priority burst. However, this adjustment causes another problem, called delay unfairness, for bursts with differential priorities that share the same path to their destination. This article proposes a new solution for delay fairness using the burst assembly.

In this paper, we proposed a novel true time-delay (TTD) feeder for phased array antennas (PAAs) using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and fibers coated with Cr/Au film. This structure requires less number of FBGs than the previously proposed FBG TTD feeders since one FBG is replaced with a metal film reflector in a strand of optical delay line connected to each antenna element and also provides the flexible wavelength selection since the metal film shows wide reflectance spectrum. A TTD for 10 GHz linear PAAs capable of steering beams in three different directions at 0$^{\circ}$and $\pm$30$^{\circ}$has been built. Experimental results on time delays are in good agreement with those calculated at all the steering angles. A 10 GHz linear array antenna with eight antenna elements red from the proposed TTD has been designed and the far-field radiation pattern or this antenna has been obtained by simulation.
