In this paper, optical deflection of laser scattering has been investigated based on Rayleigh criterion for crystalline silicon wafer in solar cell. A laser scattering mechanism is newly designed using light scattering properties in silicon wafer. Intensity distributions of laser scattering are different, depending on the incident angle of laser computed from Rayleigh criterion. In case of the incident angle satisfied with the criterion, they are asymmetric. Also, their specular reflection angle is shifted to unpredicted ones. These phenomena are in accordance with previous theories of laser scattering. The optical deflection of laser scattering is experimentally identified with the designed laser scattering mechanism. Its mathematical model is presented from the geometric relationship of laser scattering. It is shown that the optical deflection of laser scattering agree with the presented model, exclusive of grazing angles which is satisfied with Rayleigh criterion.

We propose a characterization method for the scattering property of microspheres using spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT). To prove the effectiveness of the proposed method, we prepare solutions of different concentrations using microspheres ranging from 28 to 2300 nm in diameter. Time-frequency analysis is performed on the measured interference spectrum of each solution, and the resulting spectroscopic information is converted into histograms for centroid wavelengths. The histograms present a very sensitive response to changes in the concentration and size of microspheres. We classify them into three categories according to their characteristics. When the histogram of each category is replaced with the corresponding calculated value of the scattering coefficient, each category is mapped to a different scattering-coefficient region. It is expected that the proposed method could be used to investigate the optical characteristics of a biological sample from OCT images, which would be helpful for optical diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
Degradation of the optical communication system due to the stimulated Brillouin scattering effect in the optical fiber is measured, and its suppression is demonstrated. In the externally modulated 2.5 Gb/s transmission experiment, bit error rate is increased due to the stimulated Brillouin scattering effect when the signal power (linewidth 3 MHz) incident into the dispersion shifted fiber is larger than 10 dBm. SBS effect is suppressed completely, up to 15 dBm of transmission power, by broadening the source linewidth to 200 MHz.

Optical resonances of metallic or dielectric nanoantennas enable to effectively convert free-propagating electromagnetic waves to localized electromagnetic fields and vice versa. Plasmonic resonances of metal nanoantennas extremely modify the local density of optical states beyond the optical diffraction limit and thus facilitate highly-efficient light-emitting, nonlinear signal conversion, photovoltaics, and optical trapping. The leaky-mode resonances, or termed Mie resonances, allow dielectric nanoantennas to have a compact size even less than the wavelength scale. The dielectric nanoantennas exhibiting low optical losses and supporting both electric and magnetic resonances provide an alternative to their metallic counterparts. To extend the utility of metal and dielectric nanoantennas in further applications, e.g. metasurfaces and metamaterials, it is required to understand and engineer their scattering characteristics. At first, we characterize resonant plasmonic antenna radiations of a single-crystalline Ag nanowire over a wide spectral range from visible to near infrared regions. Dark-field optical microscope and direct far-field scanning measurements successfully identify the FP resonances and mode matching conditions of the antenna radiation, and reveal the mutual relation between the SPP dispersion and the far-field antenna radiation. Secondly, we perform a systematical study on resonant scattering properties of high-refractive-index dielectric nanoantennas. In this research, we examined Si nanoblock and electron-beam induced deposition (EBID) carbonaceous nanorod structures. Scattering spectra of the transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) leaky-mode resonances are measured by dark-field microscope spectroscopy. The leaky-mode resonances result a large scattering cross section approaching the theoretical single-channel scattering limit, and their wide tuning ranges enable vivid structural color generation over the full visible spectrum range from blue to green, yellow, and red. In particular, the lowest-order TM01 mode overcomes the diffraction limit. The finite-difference time-domain method and modal dispersion model successfully reproduce the experimental results.
We have studied the properties of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in an optical fiber using optical pulses and continuous wave light. We find that the thresholds for SBS are the same when the averaged power of pulse light is the same as the power of cw light. From this result, the SBS threshold of pulse light can be deduced from that of continuous wave light, which can be obtained easily and accurately.
The optical properties of individual 3-to 14-micron diameter CdS crystalline spheres embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate) were studied using elastic scattering. The presence of well defined sharp peaks in the 550 to 600 nm elastic scattering spectra confirmed that each microcrystal acts as an optical cavity with cavity quality factors exceeding 104. Such natural resonator microcrystals should lead to greatly enhanced local field effects near the surface of CdS, quantum electrodynamic modification of optical transition rates of nearby species and altered photochemistry. Absorptive heating following high intensity laser irradiation was found to induce a transient washout of the high Q modes.

The finite-volume method for radiation in a three-dimensional non-orthogonal gas turbine combustion chamber with absorbing, emitting and anisotropically scattering medium is presented. The governing radiative transfer equation and its discretization equation using the step scheme are examined, while geometric relations which transform the Cartesian coordinate to a general body-fitted coordinate are provided to close the finite-volume formulation. The scattering phase function is modeled by a Legendre polynomial series. After a benchmark solution for three-dimensional rectangular combustor is obtained to validate the present formulation, a problem in three-dimensional non-orthogonal gas turbine combustor is investigated by changing such parameters as scattering albedo, scattering phase function and optical thickness. Heat flux in case of isotropic scattering is the same as that of non-scattering with specified heat generation in the medium. Forward scattering is found to produce higher radiative heat flux at hot and cold wall than backward scattering and optical thickness is also shown to play an important role in the problem. Results show that finite-volume method for radiation works well in orthogonal and non-orthogonal systems.

Overlap Errors and side-lobes have been simultaneously solved by the rule-based correction using the rules extracted from test patterns. Lithography process parameters affecting attPSM lithography process have been determined by the fitting method to the real process data. The correction using scattering bars has been compared to the Cr shield method. The optimal insertion rule of the scattering bal's has made it possible to suppress the side-lobes and to enhance DOF at the same time. Therefore, in this paper, the solution to both side-lobe and overlap Error has been proposed using rule-based confection. Compared to the existing Cr shield method, the proposed rule-based correction with scattering bars can reduce the process complexity and time for mask production.

The influence of fluorophor, scatterer, absorber in turbid materials by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength, it is studied the molecular property by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. It can be found that the effects of optical property are penentrated in scattering media by the optical $parameters({\mu}s$, ${\mu}a$, ${\mu}t$, ${\gamma}$, ${\rho})$. The value of scattering coefficient ${\mu}s$ is large appeared by means of the increasing particles of scattering, it can be found that the slope appears exponentially as a function of distance from laser source to detector. It may also utilize in designing the best model for oil chemistry, laser medicine and application of medical engineering.

The electromagnetic wave scattering from active objects has only recently attracted attention.$^{(1).(3)}$ Theoretical studies have considered normal-incidence plane-wave interactions with active dielectric cylinders with the prediction of large enhancements in the scattered field for bound mode structures. According to the theory of the electromagnetic wave scattering from a dielectric cylinder, the eigenvector solutions are discrete and have both guided (non-radiative) and leaky (radiative) mode solutions. By using an anti-guiding (leaky) structure instead of a guided structure and scattering at oblique incident angles near critical angle, the scattering resonances predicted by theoretical studies were obtained for the first time. A fine-grained scan of the plane-wave incident angle a reveals the existence of discrete scattering resonances. The diameter and real part of the index of refraction determine the resonant conditions and the imaginary part of the refractive index has a threshold value to make mode up for its radiation loss. The cross coupling between transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes is clearly detected for both active and passive scattering as theoretically expected. (omitted)
