  • We introduce a generic method to analyze optical 17reflectance spectra of strongly correlated electron systems including high-temperature superconductors by using an extended Drude model and Allen's approach. We explain the process step by step from reflectance through the optical conductivity and the scattering rate to the bosonic spectral function. Through the process we are able to get important information on the interactions between charge carriers from measured optical conductivity of the strongly correlated electron systems including copper oxide and iron pnitide high temperature superconductors.

  • We investigated Pb10-xCux(PO4)6 (0.9 < x < 1.1) (LK-99) and Cu2S, presumed to be contained as an impurity in LK-99, in a wide spectral range from far infrared to ultraviolet using optical spectroscopy. The optical conductivity spectra of both samples were obtained from measured reflectance spectra at various temperatures from 80 to 434 K. Both samples showed several infrared-active phonons in the far and mid-infrared regions. LK-99 showed typical insulating features with a band gap of ~1 eV. Cu2S showed a nonmonotonic temperature-dependent trend and two energy gaps: one energy gap of ~93 meV and a band gap of 2.42 eV. Our results indicate that LK-99 cannot be a superconductor because it is an insulator with a large band gap.

  • We have carried out the first-principle electronic structure calculations to investigate the spacer layer formation of Fe/Si multilayered films (MLF) and compared with the results obtained by optical spectroscopy. The computer-simulated spectra based on various structural models of MLF showed that neither FeSi$_2$ nor B2O-phase FeSi, which are semiconducting, could be considered as the spacer layers in the Fe/Si MLF for the strong antiferromagnetic coupling. The optical properties of the spacer extracted from the effective optical response of the MLF strongly support its metallic nature. The optical conductivity spectra of various phases of Fe-Si compounds were calculated and compared with the extracted optical properties of the spacer. From the above theoretical investigations it is concluded that a E2-phase metallic FeSi compound is spontaneously formed at the interfaces during deposition.

  • We report on the infrared spectroscopic studies of the normal-state electronic response of rare-earth ternary platinum germanide superconductor $La_2Pt_3Ge_5$. We analyzed the temperature-dependent optical conductivity spectra using the Drude-Lorentz oscillator model. We found that the two Drude responses with distinct scattering rates are required to explain the charge dynamics at 10 K while a single Drude mode could reproduce the far-infrared conductivity at higher temperatures. Our results indicated the two-band character of the electronic structure and highlighted the disparate temperature evolution of the electrodynamics of the two electronic states.

  • Tact Electrical conductivity. optical absorption spectra of poly(p-phenylene vinylene) and their dependence on stretching are discussed in detail. The conductivity in the parallel direction to the stretching is higher over one order in magnitude than that in the perpendicular direction to the stretching is higher over one order in magnitude than that in the perpendicular direction to the stretching. The photocurrent spectrum for the ligh polarized parallel to the chain direction is much enhanced in lower photon energy compared with that for the light polarized perpendicular to that direction. The result may be originated in the difference of energies which is needed to photogenerate carriers wi th the light polarized parallel and perpendicular to the chain stretched direction.

  • Electrical conductivity of poly (3-alkylthiophene) derivatives with substituted long alkyl chain such as poly (3-butylthiophene), poly (3-hexylthiophene), poly (3-octylthiophene), poly (3-decylthiophene), poly (3-dodecylthiophene), and poly (3-docosylthiophene) increases with increasing temperature. However, after attaining a maxiumum value, it decreases with further temperature increase. Hysteresis is also observed in the temperature dependence of conductivity and absorption spectra. The absorption spectra also changes rapidly at the phase transition. These phenomena are discussed in terms of the increase of the energy band gap in the liquid states due to the decrease of co-planarity of thiophene rings accompanied by remarkable conformation changes.

  • Experiment on isomorphous substitution of Al by Fe in sodalite framework was carried out using dry way method at 800-900$^{\circ}$C in nitrogen atmosphere. The substitution of Fe was possible up to 25 mole% with some deviation of symmetry in sodalite cage. The cubic unit cell parameter increased with increasing Fe content. It showed ionic semiconducting property, especially the highest conductivity and the lowest activation energy in 10 mole% Fe-substituted sodalite which could behave as a superionic conductor at above 400$^{\circ}$C. When more Fe was introduced into sodalite the electronic conductivity was improved at high temperature. But the relative electronic contribution was found to be lower compared with ionic contribution at high temperature. In infrared spectra some major absorption bands of sodalite shifted to lower wave numbers due to heavier Fe atoms substitution in Al lattice sites.

  • In-doped CdS thin films have been deposited at 150$^{\circ}C$ by simultaneous thermal evaporation of CdS and In. Deposition rate and film thickness were 8A/sec and about 1um, respectively. Indium doping concentration of films varied as Indium source temperature from 500$^{\circ}C$ to 700˚. Properties of In-CdS films have been investigatied by measurements of electrical resistivity, Hall effect, X-ray diffraction and optical trasmission spectra. The conductivity of these films was always n-type. The resistivity, carrier concentration, mobility and optical band gap dependence on Indium source temperature are reported. Carrier concentration and mobility of In-CdS films increased with increasing Indium source temperature: then they decreased. The variation of the optical band gap of In-CdS thin films are related to carrier concentration.

  • We report on the technology of formation of sandwich structures based on fullerite films and on experimental results in research of optical and conductivity properties of these sandwich samples. Single crystals of sapphire (100) or silicon were used as substrates. The sandwich specimens were based on the structure M/$C_{60}$/M (M=Cr, Pd, Ag, Al, Cu). The thickness of the fullerite films was about $0.2{\sim}1.0{\mu}m$. The area of the $C_{60}$ film under the top contact was about $1cm^{2}$. The specimens have been investigated by infrared spectroscopy, spectra-photometry, ellipsometry and X-ray diffraction analysis. Measurements of the current/voltage characteristics and research on the temperature dependence of conductivity were performed as well. It was shown that metals such as Cr, Pd, Ag, Al, and Cu penetrate easily into the fullerite films. It appears that these specimens have a large conductivity. For silver/$C_{60}$ and other sandwich structures the conductivities show a semiconductor-like behaviour.

  • The $NO_2$ gas-detection characteristics were investigated using the functional organic Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) film of Tetra-3-hexadecyl-sulphamoylcopperphthalocyanine(HDSM-CuPc). A surface pressure of 30mN/m was obtained as a proper one for a film deposition. A deposited film status was confirmed by electrical and optical methods such as UV/visible absorption spectra and current-voltage(I-V) characteristics. The $NO_2$ gas response experiments under 200ppm concentration show that there is not increment of electrical conductivity in room temperature and is identified by UV/visible absorption spectra. But There are some increments of electrical conductivity in $160^{\circ}C$.
