  • Recently, the increasing need for internet and the activation of hiring business of communication line makes the demand for OPGW cable which can construct the optical communication network in the basis of existing overhead power transmission line. Especially, the demand is focused on the high fiber count OPGW due to high capacity transmission. In step with the trend toward high fiber count cable we have developed the Stainless Steel Loose Tube type OPGW within which have 144core firstly in KOREA. This paper describes the cable design and manufacturing process which gives the stable operation in very severe conditions and the long-term reliability test results conducted in according to dominant specification IEEE Std. 1138-1194.

  • We present an optical Voltage and current sensor using $BSO(Bi_{12}SiO_{20})$ monocrystal. The voltage and current sensor consist of PBS(Polarizing Beam Splitter), 1/4 wavelength plate, ZnSe, Selfoc lens, LED, and PIN-PD etc. Magnetic core was made using permalloy for applying magnetic field to current sensor effectively. Current was measured from 100 to 1,600 ampere and accuracy was about ${\pm}$5%. The accuracy could be improved to ${\pm}$l% after reducing the nonlinear property of BSO crystal using our own program in PC (IBM286). We noticed that these data were not influenced by 154,000 voltage at all. Applied voltage was reduced to 1/20 using capacitors. And experiment was carried out up to 450V of the reduced voltage. The data fran optical voltage sensor was similar to that from conventional voltage sensor. The accuracy of the data was within about ${\pm}$1%.

  • OSP 에서 주로 사용되는 Drop Cable 은 통신단말인 단자함에서 통신전주 두상에 설치된 인입클램프 걸이에 인입클램프를 취부하고, 가공구간을 통해 가입자 댁으로 가설을 하며, 가입자 댁의 일정한 지점에 인입벽철 또는 인입용 훅을 설치하고, 인입클램프를 체결하여 Drop Cable 의 이도 및 루트를 고려하여 개통공사를 완성하여 해당서비스를 공급하게 된다. 이때, 사용되는 Drop Cable 은 일반적으로 자기지지를 할 수 있는 "8" 형태의 자기지지형 Drop Cable 을 주로 이용하였으나, 광섬유를 이용하는 FTTH 사업에서는 서비스 개통시 "0" 형태의 Optical Drop Cable(광옥외선)을 사용하여 개통작업의 시공성 및 생산성을 향상 시켰다. 이에 사용되는 적합한 인입광 클램프는 광옥외선의 외형적인 구조에 손상을 전가하여서는 안되며, 광옥외선 내부의 광섬유에 손상을 가하지 않는 최소의 손실을 가지며, 일정한 인장력을 유지하고 있어야 한다. 따라서, 위의 사항을 고려한 인입 광클램프의 특성에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.

  • In recent years, fiberoptic technology is becoming indispensable in establishing communication networks due to its low loss, high capacity and non-inductive properties. In the power industry as well, the technology is being required to cable and facility monitering, and control system. But, duct in the manhole and space in the culvert are required to fiberoptic cable that is separated from power cable. Therefore, some cable makers and R&D has been studying the composite fiber/power cables. This report introduces the outline of ABF system, construction and properties of optical composite power cable that used ABF technology.

  • Presently, it is now developing the optical remote gas sensor system which can measure combustible gases such as $CH_4$ and $C_2H_2$ generating by partial discharges inside the cable and connection parts to detect thermal deterioration of Oil-Filled (OF) power cable at the appropriate time. It is the most important parameter to select central wavelength of laser diode (LD) by analyzing the absorption bend of measuring gases in the infrared region. In this research, we proposed the optical spectrum analyzer to absorption band of $CH_4$ and $C_2H_2$ for the preliminary research of optical fiber gas detecting system.

  • A large dispersion value in optical fiber cable should be maintained to suppress the nonlinear effect induced distortion for the narrow channel spaced DWDM system while small value of dispersion is needed for high bit rate transmission. To meet these two requirement simultaneously, dispersion distribution control method during the cabling process was exploited. And dispersion distribution cable was fabricated by the way of designing alternation sections in single cable piece with standard single mode fiber(SSMF) and newly developed negative dispersion fiber(NDF). It is shown that the discretely dispersion varying cable along the axis keep the same average dispersion value of an entire cable length as that of nonzero dispersion shifted fiber(NZDSF) with 3.6 ps/km/nm while the local dispersion is around 17 ps/km/nm of absolute value. Moreover, the developed cable had good optical and mechanical properties and the feasibility of this cable for practical use was confirmed.

  • The repeaterless system can be designed by applying EDFA technology in receiver, transmitter and optical cable in the case of connecting several hundred km from coast to coast, between continents or islands. Because of no repeater the repeaterless system do not need power system to feed laser diode in repeater for signal amplification and cooper tuber in submarine cable. So we can be configured more reliable and economical compared to repeater system. But lower loss optical fiber must be used to get enough signal amplitude without the amplification of repeater. This report consider long distance optical repeaterless system by reflecting the limitation factor of optical amplification.

  • Security solutions using fiber-optic cable have not yet secured a solid technical stability, through which the Acoustic detection security system also did not have a complete defense techniques such as false alarm and detecting fail due to a number of variables. In this paper, we investigate 4 characteristics for the channel of underwater acoustic communication. We also construct detection system as a construction method for security system using optical cable through the analysis of acoustic signal in underwater. We perform analysis of signal characteristics and noise of underwater optical cable, and then we confirms the possibility of real application.
