OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF AMORPHOUS CN FILMS

  • Carbon nitride (CN) films were synthesized on silicon substrates by a combined ion-beam and laser-ablation method under various conditions; ion-beam energy and ion-beam current were varied. Raman spectroscopy and spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) were employed to characterize respectively the structural and the optical properties of the CN films. Raman spectra show that all the CN films are amorphous independent of the ion-beam current and the ion-beam energy. Refractive indices, extinction coefficients and optical band gaps which were determined from the measured SE spectra exhibit a significant dependence on the synthesis conditions. Especially, the decrease of the refractive indices and the shrinkage of the optical band gap is noticeable as the ion-beam current and/or the ion-beam energy increase.

  • Extensive investigation on silicon based thin film reveals a wide range of film characteristics, from low optical gap to high optical gap, from amorphous to micro-crystalline silicon etc. Fabrication of single junction, tandem and triple junction solar cell with suitable materials, indicate that fabrication of solar cell of a relatively moderate efficiency is possible with a better light induced stability. Due to these investigations, various competing materials like wide band gap silicon carbide and silicon oxide, low band gap micro-crystalline silicon and silicon germanium etc were also prepared and applied to the solar cells. Such a multi-junction solar cell can be a technologically promising photo-voltaic device, as the external quantum efficiency of such a cell covers a wider spectral range.

  • SbSBr, BiSBr, SbSBr : Co, BiSBr : Co, SbSBr : Ni 및 BiSBr : Ni 단결정을 수직 Bridgman 방법으로 성장시켰다. 성장된 단결정의 구조는 orthorhombic 구조이며 광학적 energy band gap 구조는 간접적이형이었고 energy gap의 온도의존성은 일차 및 이차 상전이점에서 anomalous 한 특성이 나 타 났다. 불순물로 첨가한 cobalt와 nickel은 Td 대칭점에 Co2+ ion, Co3+ ion 및 Ni2+ ion으로 위치하며 이들 ion의 energy 준위간의 전자전이에 의하여 불순물 광흡수 peak들이 나타난다.

투과곡선을 이용한 La 농도에 따른 PLT 박막의 광학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the optical properties of PLT thin films with varying the La concentration by using the transmission spectrum)

  • We have measured the optical properties, thickness, and energy band gap of the P $b_{1-x}$/100/L $a_{x}$100/ $Ti_{1-}$0.25x/100/ $O_{3}$ (PLT(x)) thin film prepared by the sol-gel method with varying the La concentration, x, fyom 15 nto 33 mol%. We have obtained the values from the tranmission spectrum and employed the envelope method in anayzing the spectrum. We have also performed the simulation of the transmission spectrum on the PC (personal computer) to verify the accuracy of the values 15 to 33mol%, the refractive index (at .lambda.=632.8nm) increases from 2.39 to 2.44. The extinction coefficient does not depend on the la concentration but mainly on te wavelength, and has the values between 0.2 and 0.5 at the wavelength shorter than 330nm and between 0.001 and 0.008 at the wavelength longer than 700nm. The energy band gap of the PLT (x) thin film has been obtained on the assumption of the direct band-to-band transition. It decreases from 3.28 to 3.17eV as the La concentration increases from 15 to 33 mol%. The thickness of the PLT(x) thin film has been also obtained in high accuracy by the envelope method..

기판온도에 따른 CdTe박막 특성 (The effect of substrate temperature on the Characteristics of CdTe thin film)

  • In this paper, structual, optical and electrical properties of CdTe thin films prepared by electron beam evaporation method were studied. The crystal structure of CdTe films deposited at substrate temperature of $100{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ was zincblend type with preferential orientation of the (111)plane parallel to the substrate. The result of optical absoption and transmittance show that solar radiation with energy larger than band gap is almost completely absorbed within an about $2{\mu}m$ thickness of the evaporated CdTe layer and optical band gap of the CdTe film was larger with increasing substrate temperature. The resistivity of CdTe films deposited on the glass substrate was about $10^5{\sim}10^7{\Omega}cm$.

  • Zinc oxide is a direct band gap wurtzite-type semiconductor with band gap energy of 3.37eV at room temperature. the n-type doped ZnO oxides, B doped ZnO (BZO) is widely studied in TCOs materials as it shows good electrical, optical, and luminescent properties. we focused on the fabrication of B doped ZnO films with glass substrate using the LSMCD at low temperature. And Novel boron-doped ZnO thin films were deposited and characterized from the structural, optical, electrical point of view. The structure, morphology, and optical properties of the films were studied as a function of by employing the XRD, SEM, Hall system and micro Raman system.

  • In this work, we have investigated the dependence of annealing temperature(T$\_$a/) on optical and electrical properties of amorphous hydrogenated SiC(a-SiC:H) films. The a-SiC:H films were deposited on corning glass and p-type Si(100) wafer by PECVD (plasma enhanced vapor deposition) using SiH$_4$+CH$_4$+N$_2$ gas mixture. The experimental results have shown that the optical energy band gap(E$\_$opt/)of the thin films annealed at high temperatures have shown that the graphitization of carbon clusters and micro-crystalline silicon occurs. The current-voltage characteristics have shown good electrical properties at the annealed films.

  • In this work, we investigated the dependence of optical and electrical properties of amorphous hydrogenated SiC (a-SiC:H) films on annealing temperature(T$\sub$a/). The a-SiC:H films were deposited by PECVD(plasma enhanced vapor deposition) on coming glass, p-type Si(100) wafer using SiH$_4$+CH$_4$+N$_2$gas mixture. The experimental results have shown that the optical energy band gap(E$\sub$g/) of the a-SiC thin films unchanged in the range of T$\sub$a/ from 400$^{\circ}C$ to 600$^{\circ}C$. The Raman spectrum of the thin films, annealed at high temperatures, has shown that graphitization of carbon clusters and micro-crystalline silicon occurs. The current-voltage characteristics have shown good electrical properties at the annealed films.

Substrate Temperature Effects on Structural and Optical Properties of RF Sputtered CdS Thin Films

  • In this study, CdS thin films were deposited onto glass substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The films were grown at various substrate temperatures in the range of 100 to $250^{\circ}C$. The effects of substrate temperatures on the structural and optical properties were examined. The XRD analysis revealed that CdS films were polycrystalline and retained the mixed structure of hexagonal wurtzite and cubic phase. The percentages of hexagonal structured crystallites in the films were seen to be increased by increasing substrate temperatures. The film grown at $250^{\circ}C$ showed a relatively high transmittance of 80% in the visible region, with an energy band gap of 2.45 eV. The transmittance date analysis indicated that the optical band gap was closely related to the substrate temperatures.

$TiO_{2}$ 단결정의 비선형광학 특성 (Nonlinear optical properties of $TiO_{2}$ single crystal)

  • 무색투명하고 순수한 단결정을 얻기 위하여 $TiO_{2}$(rutile) 단결정을 floating zone법으로 성장하였다. 성장된 결정을 c축에 수직 및 수평하게 절단하여 500~1000 nm 범위의 파장에서 선형 굴절율을 측정하였으며 흡수스펙트롬으로부터 optical energy band gap이 2.99 eV임을 알 수 있었다. $TiO_{2}$(rutile) 단결정의 $\chi^{(3)}$ 값을 반경험적인 모델을 기반으로 하여 $SiO_{2}$ quartz 단결정의 $\chi^{(3)}$ 값과 비교하여 분석하였다. 또한 제 3 비선형광학 특성에 있어서의 Ti$\^{4+}$의 영향을 해석하기 위해 second hyperpolarizability, ${\gamma}$(Ti$\^{4+}$)를 계산하였다.
