Calculation of Joule Heat and Temperature Distribution Generated on the Superconduction Magnet Structure for the KSTAR Operation Scenarios (KSTAR 운전시나리오에 대해 초전도자석 구조물에 발생되는 줄열 및 온도분포 계산)

  • Since the KSTAR magnet structure should be maintained at cryogenic temperature of about 4.5 K, even a small amount of heat might be a major cause of the temperature rising of the superconducting magnet structure. The Joule heating by eddy current induced on the magnet structure during the KSTAR operation was found to be a critical parameter for designing the cooling scheme of the magnet structure as well as defining the requirements of the refrigerator for the cryogenic system. Based on the Joule heating calculation, it was revealed that the bulk temperature rising of the magnet coil structure was less than 1 K. The local maximum temperature especially at the inboard leg of the TF coil structure increase as high as about 21 K for the plasma vertical disruption scenario. For the CS coil structure maximum temperature of 8.4 K was obtained from PF fast discharging scenario.

Circularly Polarized Square Ring Slot Antenna with Arrow-Shaped Structure

  • A novel design of a compact square-ring slot microstrip antenna for achieving circular polarization (CP) operation is proposed and experimentally studied. By using an arrow-shaped slot structure as a radiating element, the resonant frequency of the proposed antenna is significantly lowered, which can lead to a large size reduction for fixed frequency operation. The CP radiation characteristics are achieved by loading with proper asymmetry, which can be placed diagonally. A prototype of the proposed design is implemented and its performance is measured. Measured results show that radiation patterns with good CP characteristics are obtained at the resonant frequency.

Resistive Switching Characteristics of Amorphous GeSe ReRAM without Metalic Filaments Conduction

  • We proposed amorphous GeSe-based ReRAM device of metal-insulator-metal (M-I-M) structure. The operation characteristics of memory device occured unipolar switching characteristics. By introducing the concepts of valance-alternation-pairs (VAPs) and chalcogen vacancies, the unipolar resistive switching operation had been explained. In addition, the current transport behavior were analyzed with space charge effect of VAPs, Schottky emission in metal/GeSe interface and P-F emission by GeSe bulk trap in mind. The GeSe ReRAM device of M-I-M structure indicated the stable memory switching characteristics. Furthermore, excellent stability, endurance and retention characteristics were also verified.

  • The personal-computer software program named SAMS(Structural Aging Management System) was developed for the concrete structure of NPP(Nuclear Power Plant). SAMS is constituted of three part, detabase system containing various inspection data, operation program for standard input/output of the inspection data, and application program for efficient operation of database system. Using the SAMS, the field engineers can easily acquire the information about the various inspection data, repair and accidental histories of NPP structures. SAMS will contribute to the effcient maintenance of NPP structures.

Effect of relative stiffness on seismic response of subway station buried in layered soft soil foundation

  • The soil-structure relative stiffness is a key factor affecting the seismic response of underground structures. It is of great significance to study the soil-structure relative stiffness for the soil-structure interaction and the seismic disaster reduction of subway stations. In this paper, the dynamic shear modulus ratio and damping ratio of an inhomogeneous soft soil site under different buried depths which were obtained by a one-dimensional equivalent linearization site response analysis were used as the input parameters in a 2D finite element model. A visco-elasto-plastic constitutive model based on the Mohr-Coulomb shear failure criterion combined with stiffness degradation was used to describe the plastic behavior of soil. The damage plasticity model was used to simulate the plastic behavior of concrete. The horizontal and vertical relative stiffness ratios of soil and structure were defined to study the influence of relative stiffness on the seismic response of subway stations in inhomogeneous soft soil. It is found that the compression damage to the middle columns of a subway station with a higher relative stiffness ratio is more serious while the tensile damage is slighter under the same earthquake motion. The relative stiffness has a significant influence on ground surface deformation, ground acceleration, and station structure deformation. However, the effect of the relative stiffness on the deformation of the bottom slab of the subway station is small. The research results can provide a reference for seismic fortification of subway stations in the soft soil area.

  • At the furnace top, the distribution of charging coke and ore is adjusted to control the reducing gas flow distribution in the furnace. It is necessary to predict operation condition of blast furnace according to the burden profile to judge whether charging is properly conducted In this study, We propose the model for predicting while layer structures whithin furnace when top burden profile was given. Layer structure of coke and ore could be predicted by top burden profile and solid velocity. Solid velocity is assumed as potential flow. Potential function distribution and timeline are also calculated using solid velocity field. The Calculation is conducted for different burden profile cases. As the result burden distribution and grid structure, which is deformed to match the layer structure in shaft and deadman profile. Gas flow was calculated using this grid, and calculated results are compared with each other.

In the field of flying robot, the research for implementing the wing movement structure of the bird and insect is progressed. The joint structure for the wing movement of the bird is implemented. The operation of the wing is simulated. For this purpose, by using the Matlab/Simulink, the joint structure of the wing is modelled. The joint movement of the wing is tested through the simulation.

  • Camber with positive deflection is one of the very important design parameters in the manufacture of railway coach. Positive camber is defined as concave shape such as an arch and it increases the strength of structure remarkably. But during the operation of a structure, the positive camber turns into negative camber and it loses the strength of structure. Therefore we should consider the camber effect when we evaluate the fatigue strength of negative cambered structure. For this purpose, we made a model of negative cambered locomotive car body and performed structural analysis and also we measured the dynamic loads at critical points during commercial line operation. Fatigue strength of locomotive was calculated by applying Miner's damage accumulation rule. Fatigue strength of the two locomotives which have different camber were compared to find out the effect of camber on dynamic load amplitude. We found that the more negative camber a locomotive had, the shorter fatigue strength obtained.
