Size-sorting of Micron-sized Particles using Two Gravitational SPLITT Fractionation (GSF) Connected in a Series (Tandem GSF)

  • SPLITT Fractionation (SF) provides separation of sample into two subpopulations. Separation into more than two subpopulations requires repeated SF operations. In this study, two Gravitation SF (GSF) channels were connected in a series (Tandem GSF) to obtain a separation into three subpopulations and to improve the fractionation efficiency (FE) of the fraction-b in the full-feed depletion (FFD) mode. In a single channel FFD-GSF operation, the fraction-a contained mostly the beads smaller than the cutoff diameter ($d_c$), while the fraction-b contained beads smaller than $d_c$ as well as those larger than dc, as expected. The measured FE's of the fraction-b are much lower than those of the fraction-a in all cases. The FE's of the fraction-a are higher than 84% with the average of about 91%, while those of the fraction-b are lower than 60% with the average of about 43%. No particular trends were found between FE and $d_c$, indicating the performance of FFD-GSF does not change with $d_c$ in the range where tested. Also no clear trends were observed between the FE and the sample-feeding flow rate, indicating higher sample-feeding rate can be used to increase the sample throughput without losing resolution. When two GSF channels were connected so that the flow stream emerging from the outlet-b of the channel-1 is fed directly into the channel-2, all three FE's measured for the fraction-1a were high with the average value of 99%, indicating it contains almost purely the beads smaller than $d_c$. The FE's measured for the fraction-2a are still good with the average value of 92%. The FE's measured for the fraction-2b are 64% in average, which is about 20% improvement from those obtained in a single channel FFD-GSF at the same conditions.

  • 콜타르 유분(유출온도범위: $240{\sim}265^{\circ}C$)으로부터 추출-증류의 조합에 의해 회수한 54.3 wt% 인돌 유출액(유출온도범위 $250{\sim}255^{\circ}C$)을 원료로 사용하여 용액 결정화 조작을 행해 인돌의 고순도 정제를 검토했다. 원료 유출액은 8성분(quinoline, iso-quinoline, indole, quinaldine, 1-methylnaphthalene, 2-methylnaphthalene, biphenyl, phenyl ether)으로 구성되어 있다. 결정화 조작의 용매로서는 노말헥산을, 냉매로서는 메탄올 수용액(50 : 50 vol%)을 각각 사용하였으며, 결정화 장치로서는 재킷이 부착된 pyrex제 유리 회분 교반기를 사용했다. 결정화 온도와 용매/원료의 초기 체적비의 증가는 인돌의 순도를 향상시켰으나, 역으로 수율을 저하시켰다. 석출된 결정의 세정조작 없이, 노말헥산을 용매로 사용한 용액 결정화 조작에 의해 고순도(99.3 wt%)의 인돌을 고수율(50%)로 회수할 수 있었다.

CCSSM-CA와 미국 교과서에 제시된 분수의 연산 내용 분석 (An Analysis on the Contents of Fractional Operations in CCSSM-CA and its Textbooks)

  • 본 연구에서는 CCSSM-CA와 그에 따른 미국 초등 교과서에 제시된 분수의 연산 내용을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 분수를 단위분수나 분모가 같은 분수의 합으로 표현하게 하여 분수 개념과 연산을 연결 짓는 특징이 있었다. 또 분수의 곱셈에서는 곱하는 한 수의 크기에 기초하여 다른 수의 곱의 결과를 비교하도록 하거나, 나눗셈에서는 단위분수가 포함된 나눗셈을 먼저 다루고, 다양한 방법으로 계산을 하도록 제시하는 특징 등이 있었다.

  • An experimental study on the Joule-Thomson cryocooler with the mixed refrigerant (MR) is described in this paper, J-T refrigeration experiment was performed with a single stage regular air-conditioning compressor The mixed refrigerant in the experiment was composed of 75% mol fraction of $N_2$. 30% moi fraction of CH$_4$. 30% moi fraction of $C_2$H$_{6}$. 10% mot fraction of $C_3$H$_{8}$ and 15% mot fraction of iso-C$_4$H$_{10}$. Oil mist in the MR stream could be eliminated completely by the glass microfiber filter. Since a single stage compressor that had been designed thor R22 is not appropriate for high Pressure ratio of the mixed refrigerant especially during the transient period. two modifications were incorporated to regular J-T refrigeration cycle. First. a Portion of the MR was by-passed at the inlet of the heat exchanger and transferred directly to 7he suction of the compressor in the modified system. Second, a buffer volume was Prepared to change the mass flow rate of refrigerant. The pressure ratio in J-T expansion device was relieved at the beginning of the operation due to the by-Pass scheme. but it gradually decreased during the transient Process as some of the MR component condensed at low temperature. The buffer volume at the suction side was used to increase the MR gas density in the system after the transient cool-down period. Form the experiment with the modified system, the refrigerator could reach the lowest temperature of -152$^{\circ}C$ without cooling load. and about -15$0^{\circ}C$ with 5 W of cooling load . . . .

  • A numerical study has been performed to investigate the thermal performance of solar heating system with baffle type of storage tank by using the commercial code TRNSYS. As a result, the solar fraction depends strongly on the efficiency and heat loss coefficient of solar collector as well as the heating capacity of house and the water temperature supplied to the shower. In addition, the solar fraction has been basically ranked to higher level in baffle type of storage tank than typical type of single storage tank for the range of operation condition.

  • Pervaporation with a membrane is one of the economic technologies for separation of liquid mixtures including organic/water mixtures. The ZSM-5 membrane was used fur pervaporation of dichloromethane, 1,2-dichloroethane and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene from their aqueous solutions since its physical property shows very hydrophobic. ZSM-5 crystals were hydrothermally grown and deposited on the inside of a porous sintered stainless steel tube by the secondary growth method. Fluxes of dichlorinated organic compounds were observed to be $50{\~}429\;g/m^2/h$ while separation factors were $15{\~}320$ depending on a mole fraction of a dichlorinated organic compound in a feed solution ranged from 0.0001 to 0.001 mole fraction and the operation temperature between $25^{\circ}C\;and\;35^{\circ}C$.

  • Filter media are one of themost important choices when bilfiltration is applied. Filter media provide adsorbing microbes with available sites for residence and the residential cells grow to degrade or decompose target waste gases. Up to date, filter media were only qualitatively analyzed. As a quantitative approach to filter material for biofiltration, a simple model based on reaction kinetics and mass action law (Ottengraf's Model in 1983) was presented. Cork, zeolite, and granulated activated carbon were tested in terms of effective surface area, cell covered fraction of adsorbing sites, surface roughness, and pore size distribution. The cell covered fraction, surface roughness and hydrophilicity was found to be closely related to the efficiency of gas degradation in biofiltration. The cork was the best candidate for cell residence and growth in this work.

겨울철 열펌프 작동온도에 따른 태양열 하이브리드 시스템의 성능특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Performance Characteristics of the Solar Hybrid System with Heat Pump Operating Temperature during Winter Season)

  • Study on the performance characteristics of the solar hybrid system with heat pump operating temperature during winter season has performed by using an experimental test. The system performance and operating characteristics with the heat pump operating temperature, hour and load condition were investigated and analyzed. As a result, the hot water temperature was significantly affected by the heat pump operating temperature at the morning(time 1) and noon(time 2). However, hot water temperature was set by the radiation quality and collecting operation hour at the afternoon(time 3). In addition to the solar fraction was decreased for the high heat pump operating temperature because the heat pump operated with a long operating time and short operating period.
