For ASME Code pumps in nuclear power plants, inservice test is required to assess the operational readiness in accordance with ASME code and related regulations. The objective of this study therefore, is to develop the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation. In addition. the detection techniques of pump operating conditions are to be developed to enhance the safety and economy of nuclear power plants. A test loop consisted of pump, motor. water tank, flow rate measurements and piping system with flow control devices was established for this study. Two typical pumps, 1-stage volute pump and 3-stage turbine pump, were selected and the test was performed upon two major point of views ; i.e., pump discharge pressure pulsations analysis and pump vibration spectrum analysis. From the test results, it is concluded that (1) the pump vibration affected by the natural frequency of operating pump is significant in the low frequency zone (around 1 Hz) : the vibration amplitude. especially. is an important factor during low flow rate operation. and shall be monitored to ensure that it is within the limit of ASME OM code Part 6, (2) the vibration frequency and pump discharge pressure are affected by vane pass frequency and running speed, (3) the wave phenomena due to the compressiblity of water is anticipated during low flow rate operation. and the pump system shall be designed to prevent it and. finally, (4) the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation is provided.

There is increasing interest, on the global basis, in the operation of ocean surface radars for measurement of coastal sea surface conditions to support environmental, oceanographic, meteorological, climatological, maritime and disaster mitigation operations. In south Korea, ocean surface radars are operating to monitoring oil spill, outflow from dike or preventing from safety-accidents in the 6 regions (16 radial sites) by main frequency about 13, 25 and 42 MHz until the present. However, that ocean surface radars have been operated on an experimental spectrum basis. In the results of 3~50 MHz band domestic analysis to improve the regulatory status of the spectrum used by oceanographic radars, it was demonstrated that sufficient frequency bands are available for oceanographic radars on the frequency band above 20 MHz. It is difficult to deploy and operate oceanographic radars in the sub-bands below 20 MHz except for 13 MHz band. For using HF ocean surface radars one should understand the spectrum environment in Korea and should prepare a suitable operating system and data processing techniques.

This is an experimental study on the performance characteristics of effective heat pump in the cooling mode using a single-stage compression $CO_2$ cycle with an IHX(internal heat exchanger). The performance of a single-stage compression with IHX was investigated according to charge amount and operating condition. Moreover, the performance characteristic of cooling operating was analyzed with the length of IHX. As a result, the optimum refrigerant charge amount was 2.2 kg. The optimal system COP for compressor frequency of 30, 40, 50, and 60 Hz was 3.493, 3.228, 2.978, and 2.659, respectively. Since the system with IHX can maintain large cooling capacity regardless of operating condition, the system performance doesn't reduce considerably under unfavorable condition. When the compressor frequency was 40 Hz, the COP for a system with IHX length of 3 m and 5 m was 3.361 and 3.51, respectively. By using the IHX into a $CO_2$ cooling system, the performance and reliability improves simultaneously.

Nowadays high-cost energy storage system using flywheel or secondary battery is applying to hybrid generation system with WT(Wind Turbine) and diesel generator in island areas for stable operation. This paper proposes an operating algorithm and modeling method of the hybrid generation system that can operate for variable wind speed and load, which is composed of energy storage system, variable-speed PMSG(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) WT and diesel generator applied in island areas. Initially, the operating algorithm was proposed for frequency and voltage to be maintained within the proper ranges for load and wind speed changes. Also, the modeling method is proposed for variable speed PMSG WT, diesel generator and BESS(Battery Energy Storage System). The proposed operating algorithm and modeling method were applied to a typical island area. The frequency and voltage was kept within the permissible ranges and the proposed method was proven to be appropriate through simulations.
Agricultural products can be damaged due to the vibration of transporting trailer on the off-road. So, this study was conducted to identify the vibration characteristics of the agricultural products transporting trailer by measuring the vertical acceleration according to positions on the trailer loaded with agricultural products. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. At non-operating state of engine, the larger vertical acceleration was occurred at rear side compared with front side in the case of 4.5Hz of vibration frequency. But, in the case of 53.5Hz of frequency, the maximum vertical acceleration at front side of trailer was higher than value at rear side. So, the maximum acceleration at front side of the trailer was increased with the increase in frequency. 2. At operating state of engine, the maximum vertical acceleration at front side of the trailer was increased with the increase in frequency. 2 At operating state of engine, the maximum vertical acceleration delivered through the hitch from the engine was occurred at front side of the trailer as $3.0\times10^{-3}m/s^2$, in the case of 8.75Hz of frequency. But, in the case of 102.5Hz of high frequency, the maximum vertical acceleration was occurred at rear side of the trailer. 3. When the power tiller loaded with pear of 325kg was travelling on the artificial uneven road of 3cm height, the maximum acceleration was occurred at rear side of the trailer as $4.7\times10^{-3}m/s^2$at 3.75Hz of frequency. But, that was occurred at diagonal of the trailer 43.5Hz and 91.25Hz, which meant that there was rolling and pitching on the trailer. 4. At operating state of engine, the mean acceleration of the trailer delivered through the hitch according to the increase in frequencies was showed the maximum value at range of 40-90Hz. At rear side of traiㅣer, the maximum value was occurred at about 40Hz, and that was reduced according to the increase in frequencies and diminished at about 100Hz. 5. When the power tiller loaded with pear of 32.5kg was travelling on the artificial uneven road of 3cm height, the mean acceleration by the increase in frequencies was showed lower level at rear side than front side of the trailer. This was opposite configuration to the Hinsch’s results tested with air-conditioned truck. This means that the shorter length of the trailer, the more effect of engine vibration is transferred to the front side of trailer.

Resonance phenomena occurs at large vertical pump which is operating to cool down the hot steam using sea water in the power plant. To avoid the resonance, the natural frequency needs to be isolated about 20% from motor operating speed. Yet, excessive vibration occurs especially at low tide. At first, natural frequency of the whole pump system and each part is calculated using ANSYS. As it is revealed in the previous journal papers that only circular pipe part is related to resonance, the FSI technique is applied for free vibration analysis. The natural frequency is reduced to 60% (compared to that) of the frequency measured in air as it is similar to other published results. And the frequency obtained by finite element analysis is almost same to that obtained from modal test. Based on the accurate finite element model and analysis, design change is tried to avoid the resonance by changing the thickness of pipe and base supporting plate. In stead of doing optimization process, design sensitivity is computed and used to find such designs to avoid resonance.

This paper proposes the design considerations of resonant network and transformer magnetics for 500 kHz high switching frequency LLC resonant converter. The high power density can be effectively achieved by adopting high switching frequency which allows small size passive components in the converter. The design methodology of magnetizing inductance is derived for zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition, and the design methodology of the transformer and output capacitance is derived to achieve high power density at high operating frequency. Moreover, the structure of transformer is analyzed to obtain the proper inductance value for high switching operation. To verify the proposed design methodology, simulation and experimental results will be presented including temperature of passive and active components, and power conversion efficiency to evaluate dominant power loss. In addition, the validity of magnetics design will be evaluated with operating waveforms of the prototype converter.

This paper presents a capacitive power transfer (CPT) system using a Class-E resonant inverter. A Class-E resonant inverter is chosen because of its ability to perform DC-to-AC inversion efficiently while significantly reducing switching losses. The proposed CPT system consists of an efficient Class-E resonant inverter and capacitive coupling formed by two flat rectangular transmitter and receiver plates. To understand CPT behavior, we study the effects of various coupling distances on output power performance. The proposed design is verified through lab experiments with a nominal operating frequency of 1 MHz and 0.25 mm coupling gap. An efficiency of 96.3% is achieved. A simple frequency tracking unit is also proposed to tune the operating frequency in response to changes in the coupling gap. With this resonant frequency tracking unit, the efficiency of the proposed CPT system can be maintained within 96.3%-91% for the coupling gap range of 0.25-2 mm.
Power systems must be operated within limits that will ensure adequate generation and transmission capacity to avoid cascading. In developing a set of operations limits, it is important to do so within a general framework in order to ensure that the operating objectives are met. In the this regard, when the system experiences a generation-load imbalance, the principles of sound operation will be maintained by bringing under control an unscheduled power flow condition as quickly as possible. This paper presents load shedding application which responds both to frequency and to rate of change of frequency. Its application is in the operating situation of load suddenly in excess of generation, either because of generator or other equipment failure. A scheme which is able to utilize rate of change of frequency as well as frequency itself is an improvement over existing scheme.

In recent years, the demand for wireless devices incorporating several wireless communication systems into one has been increasing in order to provide services that meet the diverse needs of consumers. Wireless devices consisting of various wireless communication systems require many frequency fixed filters. A frequency tunable filter can replace a number of frequency fixed filters in the wireless devices. If a frequency tunable filter is used in wireless systems, the system can be configured more efficiently. In this paper, a 3-pole frequency tunable BPF(bandpass filter) operating in the frequency band of 800 ~ 2400MHz is designed. In order to widen the operating frequency band, a tuning screw is designed to have a step and a linear motor is used to facilitate the adjustment of the tuning screw. The implemented frequency tunable BPF operates in the designed frequency range and has the maximum insertion loss of 2.82dB in the channel band and the minimum attenuation of 18.7dB at ± 50MHz frequency offset from the center frequency of the band.
