  • These days open source softwares are being introduced and applied in many countries in the world. Especially, both government and private companies tend to become an spearhead in vitalizing the open source software. In this paper we try to check the degree of vitalizations in open source GIS software and to draw implications in vitalizing ecosystem of open source GIS software. Key players of open source GIS software ecosystem are government, private companies, academic and research institutes, and nonprofit foundations. Government does not have very little policies related to the investment and the support of open source GIS software. Private companies related to the open source GIS software are very few in the number and do not have any clear business model to make a profit. Academic and research institutes are weak in using the open source GIS software, which can be an major obstacle to cultivate software developers. OSGeo Korean branch, established in 2009, is the only nonprofit foundation in Korea which makes an effort to vitalize the open source GIS software, but its results are not very strong up to now in view of both quality and invigoration. In order to vitalize the open source GIS software ecosystem, lots of efforts of key players are needed. Especially, government efforts are very important because it can provide a trigger in vitalizing the open source GIS software ecosystem. The tasks that government should propel are R&D investment, test bed projects in the area of public sector, professional manpower training, and international cooperation and marketing.

  • For the resistance of the closed intellectual property license from the Free Software Movement. It's free and also can adapt have been widely used. Software for the resistance of the closed intellectual property rights have been promoted by the free software movement. Implementation of the proposed changes in the license that anyone can freely use the software and adapt open source software is widely used. The product of open source software can reduce development time and cost. Many people who use it will improve, verification and developed. However, indiscriminate use of these advantages, as well as the risk of dispute is high. This study is analyzed open source software dispute cases for piracy protection and will show duly open source software available to users by user environment.

  • Recently, introduction of Open Source Software into informatization of the government and public sector has been actively examined, however, Open Source Software is being rarely adopted due to the lack of verified and reliable data with regard to the criteria, process, performance and stability for introduction of Open Source Software. In this paper, the process, method and plan for performance verification for introduction of Open Source Software into mission critical systems of the government and public sector are suggested in order to solve the aforesaid problem Specially, a test system to judge whether or not to adopt Open Source Software in school affairs system of the NEIS(National Education Information System) of the Korean government was set up, and the method and process of performance verification by stage in addition to feasibility study were applied to the test system for verification. Based on the result of performance evaluation in the test system, the application of Linux to school affairs system of the NEIS is being successfully practiced. It is expected that this study will be a guideline to technical review process and performance verification method as necessary to introduce Open Source Software into the mission critical systems of government and public agencies.

  • Today, the use of the open source software is rapidly increasing. But, it is also true that the quality aspect of the open source software is not being considered seriously enough. As we see, the future prospect of the open source software seems to demand the development of a set of quality assessment technology for the open source software due to the current status of quality problems and sustained growth in its usage. Therefore, in this study a set of open source assessment models are analyzed to establish evaluation criteria, with which the open source software are to be evaluated.

  • Companies are attempting application of open source software development approach method as new alternatives to solve roiling pints of the existing software developments such as quality of software, development speeds and cost. On the other hand, various analyses about open source software were performed, but concrete procedures or the results of suitable study about a way to utilize open source for a software development in actual industry are not yet. This study presented process model for identification, valuation selection of suitable open source, and modification application or commercializing.

  • The proportion of users and companies using open source continues to grow. The size of open source software market is growing rapidly not only in foreign countries but also in Korea. However, compared to the continuous development of open source software, there is little research on open source software subject classification, and the classification system of software is not specified either. At present, the user uses a method of directly inputting or tagging the subject, and there is a misclassification and hassle as a result. Research on open source software classification can also be used as a basis for open source software evaluation, recommendation, and filtering. Therefore, in this study, we propose a method to classify open source software by using machine learning model and propose performance comparison by machine learning model.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an open source GIS software business model for the revitalization of Korean open source GIS software industry. In this study, we categorized the types of open source software business models and developed an open source software business strategy suitable for GIS companies in Korea. To propose a business model, we applied the business model canvas which is often used in the area of business studies to analyze new business models. We tried to develop the open source GIS business model through both interviews and case studies with Korean open source GIS software companies. We propose three different types of open source GIS software business models such as distributor model, producer model, and 3rd party service provider model as follows: first, the companies which belong to distributor model can carry out business by providing professional services in the market of open source software. Second, the companies which belong to producer model can sell their products to the global market as well as the domestic market. Lastly, given the growing interest in domestic open source software, the number of third-party service providers is likely to continue to increase in the future. Therefore, it is expected that the companies which belong to the third party service provider model will be able to develop various business models by securing the technology.

  • Open-source software development projects are well suited for exploring new ideas and acquiring knowledge from developers outside of the project. In this paper, we examine the impact of external developers on innovation in open-source software development from the perspective of organizational learning theory. We examine the roles of external and internal developers, who "explore" and "exploit," respectively, on the innovation performance of 17 691 open-source software development projects whose data is stored in the GitHub platform. The results indicate that a multifaceted strategy, in which the exploitation successfully supports the exploration, is most effective for their success. The results also indicate that the role of exploration decreases after the release of the software.

  • In this paper, we attempt to prevent certain cases by tracing a history and making genogram about open source software and its modification using similarity of source code. There are many areas which use open source software actively and widely, and open source software contributes their development. However, there are many unconscious cases like ignoring license or intellectual properties infringe which can lead litigation. To prevent such situation, we analyze source code similarity using program dependence graph which resembles subgraph isomorphism problem, a typical NP-complete problem. To solve subgraph isomorphism problem, we utilized harmony search of metaheuristic algorithm and compared its result with a genetic algorithm. For the future works, we represent open source software as program dependence graph and analyze their similarity.

  • With rapid development of information and communication technologies, open collaboration can be eased through the Internet. Open source software, as a representative area of open collaboration, is developed and adopted to various fields. In this research, based on organizational learning theory, we examine the impacts of exploration and exploitation on innovation performance in open source software development projects. We define knowledge exploration as a number of developers from outside organization and knowledge exploitation as the ratio of member of an organization who participated in an open source software project managed by the organization. For analysis, we collect data of 4794 projects from github which is a representative open source software development platform using Web crawler developed by Python. As a result, we find that excessive exploration has curvilinear (invers U-shape) relationship on project performance. On the other hand, exploitation with enough external developers will positively impact on project performance.
