  • Closed-loop active twist control of integral helicopter rotor blades is investigated in this paper for reducing hub vibration induced in forward flight. A four-bladed fully articulated integral twist-actuated rotor system has been designed and tested successfully in wind tunnel in open-loop actuation. The integral twist deformation of the blades is generated using active fiber composite actuators embedded in the composite blade construction. An analytical framework is developed to examine integrally twisted helicopter blades and their aeroelastic behavior during different flight conditions. This aeroelastic model stems from a three-dimensional electroelastic beam formulation with geometrical-exactness, and is coupled with finite-state dynamic inflow aerodynamics. A system identification methodology that assumes a linear periodic system is adopted to estimate the harmonic transfer function of the rotor system. A vibration minimizing controller is designed based on this result, which implements a classical disturbance rejection algorithm with some modifications. Using the established analytical framework, the closed-loop controller is numerically simulated and the hub vibratory load reduction capability is demonstrated.

  • This paper presents the digital controller using variable gain for single-phase power factor correction (PFC) converter. Generally, the gain of inner current control loop in single-stage PFC converter has a constant magnitude. This is why input current is distorted under low input voltage. In particular, a digital controller has more time delay than an analog controller which degrades characteristics of control loop. So, it causes the problem that the gain of current control loop isn't increased enough. In addition, the oscillation happens in the peak value of the input voltage open loop PFC system gain changes according to ac input voltage. These aspects make the design of the digital PFC controller difficult. In this paper, the improved digital control method for single-phase power factor converter is presented. The variable gain according to input voltage and input current help to improve current shape. The 800W converter is manufactured to verify the proposed control method.

  • This paper suggests a standstill estimator to accurately identify induction motor (IM) parameters necessary for the vector control. A mathematical model that faithfully represents the general skin effect is introduced. Then, two exciting signals with a different frequency are sequentially injected to track the parameters based on the skin effect of the rotor bar. Little knowledge of the unknown motor allows the proposed methodology to employ a closed-loop control of an injected current, rather than open-loop voltage injection approaches. Subsequently, this control scheme proactively prevents electrical accidents resulting from an inadequate open-loop voltage injection. We develop a specialized offline commissioning test to compensate the phase delay resulting from the drive, which significantly affects the precision of the IM parameters. The effectiveness of the identification technique is validated by means of experiments performed on the three different IMs.

  • In photovoltaic system, the characteristics of photovoltaic module such as open circuit voltage and short circuit current will be changed because of cell temperature and solar radiation. Therefore, the boost converter of a PV system connects between the output of photovoltaic system and DC link capacitor of grid connected inverter as controlling duty ratio for maximum power point tracking(MPPT). This paper shows the dynamic characteristics of the boost converter by comparing single-loop and two-loop control algorithm using both analog and digital control. Both proposed compensation methods have been verified with computer simulation to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control schemes.

  • In this paper, presented is a feedback control loop, for an in-plane gimbaled micro gyroscope based on methodology and state weighted model reduction technique. The micro gyroscope is the basic inertial sensors. To improve the performances such as stability, wide dynamic range, bandwidth and especially robustness, it is necessary to design a feedback control loop, which must be robust, because the manufacturing process errors can be large. Especially, to obtain wide bandwidth, the feedback controller is indispensable, because the gyroscope is high Q factor system and has small open loop bandwidth. Moreover, the feedback controller reduces the effect...

  • This paper presents a new methodology for specification and control of the motion of an articulated rigid body for the purposes of animation by coordinate transformations. The approach is to formulate the problem as a coordinate transformation from the joint space of the body to a user-defined animation space which is chosen for convenience in constraining the motion. Constraints are applied to the resulting coordinate transformation equations. It is sufficiently general so that it can be applied to all common types of control problems, including closed loop as well as open loop mechanisms. We also provided a new approach to simulate a closed loop mechanism, which is using animation space transformation technique. The method is formulated in detail and is demonstrated by animating the motion of an inchworm.

  • This paper deals with an optimal output tracking control for open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine. For this purpose, we modeled simplified mathematical model of open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine and designed optimal output feedback control system using combustion chamber pressure. For design the closed-loop system of open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine, we designed optimal output feedback linear quadratic tracking control system using the linearized model and demonstrated the performance of the controller through numerical simulation.

  • As the interest of flexible manufacturing systems and computer integrated manufacturing systems increase, the distribution of centralized control systems using industrial control networks is getting more attention. In this paper, we investigate the rate-based traffic control of industrial control networks to improve the performance regarding the throughput, fairness, and error rates. Especially, we consider the protocol of Lon-$Works^{(TM)}$ which consists of all OSI 7-layers and supports various communication media at a low cost. Basically, the proposed rate-based traffic control system is closed loop by utilizing the feedback channel errors, which shows improved performance when compared with other industrial control networks commonly operated in open loop. To this end, an additional network node called monitoring node is introduced to check the channel status without increasing the channel load. The Proposed control loop is in effect whenever the feedback channel error becomes greater than an admittable value. We demonstrate the improved performance of the controlled network system in view of throughput and fairness measures by implementing the lab-scale network system based on LonWorks and through the experimentation upon it.

  • High-power electromagnetic transmitter power supplies are an important part of deep geophysical exploration equipment. This is especially true in complex environments, where the ability to produce a highly accurate and stable output and safety through redundancy have become the key issues in the design of high-power electromagnetic transmitter power supplies. To solve these issues, a high-frequency switching power cascade based emission power supply is designed. By combining the circuit averaged model and the equivalent controlled source method, a modular mathematical model is established with the on-state loss and transformer induction loss being taken into account. A triple-loop control including an inner current loop, an outer voltage loop and a load current forward feedback, and a digitalized voltage/current sharing control method are proposed for the realization of the rapid, stable and highly accurate output of the system. By using a new algorithm referred to as GAPSO, which integrates a genetic algorithm and a particle swarm algorithm, the parameters of the controller are tuned. A multi-module cascade helps to achieve system redundancy. A simulation analysis of the open-loop system proves the accuracy of the established system and provides a better reflection of the characteristics of the power supply. A parameter tuning simulation proves the effectiveness of the GAPSO algorithm. A closed-loop simulation of the system and field geological exploration experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the control method. This ensures both the system's excellent stability and the output's accuracy. It also ensures the accuracy of the established mathematical model as well as its ability to meet the requirements of practical field deep exploration.

The micro computer is designed to the fuzzy controller to execute the proportional gain with the data of the error and speed command. The gain schedule is the fuzzy set which execute based on the fuzzy rule. The gain schedule from the fuzzy controller is fed to the sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) inverter for control the response and speed of the induction motor. The induction motor coupling to the DC motor and tachogenerator which DC motor as a load.
