  • In this work, open and short stubs that were fabricated on the silicon substrate and for which the periodically arrayed grounded-strip structure (PAGS) was employed were studied along with their basic RF characteristics for an applicability regarding the RF-matching components. The PAGS-employing open and short stubs showed losses that are much lower than that of the conventional stub on the silicon substrate. Concretely, the Q values of the open and short stubs are 9 and 10.2, respectively, while the Q value of the conventional open stub is 2.5. With the use of the PAGS-employing open and short stubs, a highly miniaturized harmonic-rejection filter was also fabricated on the silicon substrate. The filter exhibited a comparatively sound harmonic-suppression characteristic at n × 13 GHz, and its size is 0.1 mm2, which is only 7% of the size of the conventional filter on the silicon substrate.

  • In this paper, we propose a wideband band-stop filter (BSF) in order to extend the stopband of the band-stop filter using a symmetric dual spurline and the coupled open stub. First, we know that the symmetric dual spurline structure is advantageous in widening the stopband, as compared to the asymmetric dual spurline structure. So we designed a band-stop filter that combines the electrically coupled open stub (ECOS) band-stop filter with a symmetric dual spurline. We can greatly extend the stopband, when it is combined with the dual spurline and electrically coupled open stub on a microstrip transmission line, without any size increment. The stopband of the proposed band-stop filter is extended by approximately 244% (rejection depth: -20 dB) compared with a band-stop filter without a dual spurline.

  • In this paper, the exact analysis of the parallel coupled line with open stub is presented. This structure shows LPF characteristics with broad stopband and sharp skirt characteristics. We derived the exact Z-matrix expression of the structure. In order to show the validation of the expression we designed $3^{th}$ order Chebyshev LPF using the structure. The simulated data excellently agreed with the predicted values by the calculation using the derived expression.

  • In this paper, we present a novel design for a dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) based on the conventional second-order, open-loop BPF. By adding series resonant circuits to the open ends of the resonator, we can create two resonant modes from the even and odd modes. One pair of the even and odd modes constitutes the upper passband, while the other pair constitutes the lower passband. By adding another series resonant circuit to the open-loop resonator, we can control the bandwidth of either the upper passband or the lower passband. We can replace the series resonant circuits with simple microstrip line resonators. A dual-band BPF working at both Wi-Fi bands (2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands) is designed based on the proposed method and is tested. The measured and simulated results show excellent agreement.

  • A novel lowpass filter with a very sharp transition band and wide stopband is proposed. The proposed filter is based on T-shaped patches which are etched in symmetrical structures and folded open stub. To obtain a wide stopband, we have used stub loaded semi-circle stepped-impedance structures. By designing the resonator with high inductance and capacitance, a very sharp transition band is achieved. The proposed filter has a 3-dB cutoff frequency at 2.37 GHz and a 40-dB rejection at 2.44 GHz. The stopband with an attenuation level better than -13.2 dB is up from 2.4 GHz to 16 GHz, and consequently we have reached the high and wide rejection in stopband with compact size. Good agreements between the simulated and the measured results are presented.

  • The electrical properties of a back drilled via-hole (BDH) without the open-stub and the plated through via-hole (PTH) with the open-stub, which is called the conventional structure, in a high-count multi~layered (HCML) printed circuit board (PCB) were investigated for a high-speed digital system, and a selected inner layer to transmit a high-speed signal was farthest away from the side to mount the component. Within 10 GHz of the broadband frequency, a design of experiment (DOE) methodology was carried out with three cause factors of each via-hole structure, which were the distance between the via-holes, the dimensions of drilling pad and the anti-pad in the ground plane, and then the relation between cause and result factors which were the maximum return loss, the half-power frequency, and the minimum insertion loss was analyzed. Subsequently, the empirical formulae resulting in a macro model were extracted and compared with the experiment results. Even, out of the cause range, the calculated results obtained from the macro model can be also matched with the measured results within 5 % of the error.

  • This paper presents a Bagley polygon and Gysel divider using open-stub loaded transmission line. The structure of slow-wave characteristic consists of small transmission line and shunt capacitive open stub that have reduced characteristic impedance and phase velocity, so we can implement the small circuit size. To validate the slow-wave characteristics, we are implemented the slow-wave characteristic of Bagley polygon and Gysel divider at center frequency 2.1 GHz. Its characteristics are same, but the circuit size is reduced above 15 % respectively.

  • In this paper, a compact-narrow open stub band-pass filter with parasitic-signal of low frequency range and second harmonics rejected using the parallel coupled line and FLCLM(Frquency Locked Controlled Length Method) is proposed. The characteristic of the parallel coupled line can be rejection for parasitic-signal of low frequency range and second harmonics. In last filter of experimental results show that insertion loss is 1.2 dB and return loss is 14.8 dB, and the fractional bandwidth is 10 % at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz. In additional, the rejection for parasitic-signal of low frequency range and second harmonics are 28.9 dB and 28.8 dB, respectively.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel compact microstrip lowpass filter with an ultra-wide stopband and prominent cutoff sharpness using slot on the ground plane and microstrip shunt open stub. The microstrip shunt open stub and slot exhibit the different stopband response. The combined characteristics of these structures gives the ultra-wide stopband characteristics and the coupling effect between slots on the ground plane makes the prominent cutoff sharpness. The fabricated microstrip lowpass filter with the size of 20.1 mm ${\times}$ 18.7 mm has -3 ㏈ cutoff frequency at 1.187 ㎓ and -20 ㏈ stopband from 1.33 ㎓ to over 20 ㎓ and the insertion loss in the passband is less than -0.4 ㏈ form DC to 1 ㎓.

  • In this paper, the bandpass filter for ITS system of 5.8 GHz is proposed by using the dual-mode resonator with the radial stub. As alternating the open stub with the radial stub, the size of the dual mode resonator can be reduced about 39.6% and the out-of-band characteristics of the bandpass filter using dual mode resonator can be enhanced from 19.4 dB to 29.1 dB by using the stub of $6.9{\Omega}$ i.e. realized by parallel two radial stubs with $60^{\circ}$ angle. The fabricated bnadpass filter using the dual mode resonator has the center frequency of 5.72 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 4.1%. Also, the filter has the insertion loss and return loss of 1.79 dB and 19.4 dB, respectively.
